New LCD for Lynx ?
« on: January 21, 2014, 12:45:16 AM »
Man.....this would SO bring me back into playing my Lynxes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xwM0Fwnz24

I _really_ have a problem with the original display these days....it's looking so gray, so dim, so washed out colors....so bad looking from anything but exactly the right angle, SO hard to see in bright daylight....all this keeps me from playing the Lynx....
which is a shame because there are a number of very very good games on it.

Yes the color was great BITD (especially compared to the Gameboy, of which I already couldn't see what dafuck was going on already BITD.....

but today.....we are so spoilt now....I seriously hope this will make it to a final product that can be dropped into the Lynx !!!

I think it will be hard to interface. Remember the Lynx has a very crappy low resolution, they don't make course displays any more.
Best bet is remove all the internals, and put a raspberry pi inside with a nice new OLED screen.
A mod you can try though: replace the CCFL tube with wide-gamut RGB/white LED's. It will deliver a bit more pop to the screen. It reduces battery use as well.

Crappy low res....for now yes.

NO emulation, thanks.

I hope they can put the interfacing in an FPGA and make it all fit inside a real Lynx.
