Sanyo cap kit: what brand of caps?
« on: November 18, 2013, 12:46:47 PM »
Hi guys,

I want to recap my DK monitor (together with Etienne), and I found this old thread:

https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=2166.0

Great info Etienne, tx :spaceace:

I need advise what brand of caps are the best. Level42 names 2 of them (Panasonic, Nichicon), but are there more?

I can't find all needed caps from Panasonic, so I want to know where to go and where to stay away from.

Pls help me on this one.

I bought three sets for Sanyo monitors a couple months ago from the real Bob Roberts.
You can have a complete set (inc. caps for audioboard) for the price I paid if you want?

Don't know what brand the caps are though. But from what I read, Bob Roberts kits are the best.

EDIT. Just checked my e-mailed order with Bob Roberts.
It says: 3 x 20EZ 13"/19" - Deluxe Kit - $36.00.
So 1 set is $12.

Sounds good to me

I tried to get it from Bob Roberts, but it wasn't possible to pay him, other then sending money by mail.

What kit did you get?

edit: I take one, will PM the details

I'm still interested in brands..... I prefer to put good quality cabs in my DK (and other monitors as well)

Panasonic are good caps, but IMHO any caps that have the 105 degree value will do.

Its not that the cabinet is operating 24/7

I just went to the local electronic store here with my list and Gyruss's DK is still working perfectly   8)

Removed the link in my post, because its useless to have 2 of the same links in one thread

Anyway, you have the list, you can order them where you like  ;)

But from what I read, Bob Roberts kits are the best.
Which shows that you shouldn't believe everything you read.....

To be totally honest: my SW cockpit Amplifone and AR-II board are cap-kitted with BR's caps. (I still believed in the cap-kit 'm all-fairy tale then) and they work fine so far. Mostly they are Xicon brand with some other rather unknown brand mixed in.

I wouldn't rate them as bad, but saying they are "the best" is doubtfull. Caps will show their quality over many years mostly...

If I need to use new one's I stick with well known brands, but if my cap tester says the old one's are still good, I prefer to leave them as Atari usually used Nichicon and these are good quality.

I actually believe caps were constructed better BITD then today, as price is everything today....
