GT-6/GT-16/GT-28 simulation possible?
« on: November 14, 2013, 02:06:14 AM »
Would this even be possible for anyone to do? If anyone could help, I might attempt to take this on.

What I would need (for GT-6):

-The full laserdisc rip from DarthNuno's GT-6
-Someone else to help with this project (with good knowledge of some scripting languages)
-All in-game models, textures, and sprites ripped (possible to rip just from PS1 version, models most likely identical)

What I am planning:

We need to develop an engine with a good 3D back-end that can play video backgrounds. The games can be added to the engine by use of folders and a script. The script would be something like this:

GameName: Name of Game
GameVideo: Location of video file (.mp4 would be best)
GameModels:Location of models
List out models, like so:
Model1:model1.obj
Model2:model2.obj
and so on and so forth.
The rest of the space would be used with data that represent locations and spawn points.

If we could build an engine that could do this, we might be able to support other games as well (Various rail shooters, FMV shooters using the BG animation and sprite engines, like Area51, and Non-FMV rail shooters using the 3D backend, like Time Crisis 2.)

Ideas, suggestions, and comments appreciated.

Wow why hadn't I thought of hat sooner lol that Actually would be very difficult you would also need something that connects them. Plus it needs a menu and extras like classi galaxian and galaga. It reminds me, would there be the rising of gourb restoration?

It would be possible to restore Rising of Gourb, but the footage on disc is pixelated and looks the age it is. We would need some restoration work done on the video.

I'd download the gal3. Rom cause that has the sprites and textures and all in game models I think

3D models can be 'browsed' through a preliminary model viewer, right here.

I tried that model viewer before with the gal3.zip in it but it wouldn't view the models. Maybe it requires actual roms. Extracted the roms from gal3 but it still didn't view the models. Maybe I did something wrong

Same here with the model viewer, and I've tried the MAME and forum-posted version.
Since I bet the models are the same on the PS1 port of G3, I'm going to later try to dump the models to .obj using a D3D model ripper. That should send back the models AND the original textures!

You could also find a way to dump models from Star Ixiom, there are a few Starblade and G^3 enemies in there, Dragoon J2 is one of the selectable craft and I believe Zolgear even appears in one mission.

Progress:

I currently have a concept design for the program here:

Also, we should get a project name. I was thinking something along the lines of DRAGO Engine (DRAGOon Open source Engine).

Good concept for the player start screen. Though I do prefer the laserdisc scene with the base of operation music.

I don't want to refer to G3 directly, it's an engine like MAME or DAPHNE, only it uses simulated components instead of emulated ones. That being said, I have more progress: and even better looking UI design off the original picture:

I came up with an icon system off the original idea. It took quite a while to make them, but they look really cool on the background. When you move the cursor on an item, which will fill the screen as much as the other games on the screen will, the selected game lights up and the image becomes a video (if a video exists).

Wow. That's cool. With the laserdisc video coming to this project,  who knows what hid them. They could be blow. Away with graphics and cursor acting as a target shooter thing. Honestly though I kinda prefer the keyboard mode. another good concept this time it's even better. There's only one captured gameplay though and it's from none other than the laserdisc showing all contents with music that wasn't on the CD. Idk how exactly namco captured such monstrous gameplay. There are actually game plays that people recorded, but I'm afraid that might not count as it was recorded with the camera. Maybe record the gameplay of them during the progress. Yea I'd prefer simulated components too.

DarthNuno won't distribute his LD rip, trying something else...

Luckily, I have PSmplay and both copies of for PS1!

Working...

DONE!

Audio done, now for the video (from the Japanese version, to be done next post)
