Hungarian football died in 1986 in Mexico, it was our last time in World Cup history. :-\
In those days we were the slaves of the Soviet Union and after the glorious win of 10-1 against San Salvador, Mr. Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev, the General Secretary of the Central Committee (CC) of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, forced us to loose against Russia to 6:1.
Since then, we never qualified  to WC, it is a freakin shame. :-\

Indeed, I remember that happening very well !!!! A damn shame because it was a good team then for sure !

8-1 was a little bit outrageous....let's hope they keep both feet on the ground...

I think the "problem" from Hungary is that they actually try to attack. I deeply respect that attitude. Better to go in "butter and bread" like this than loosing 1-0 while all players keep defending around the goal....

It was very cool to see Robin van Persie break the score-record of Patrick Kluivert. Always good to have an ex-Feyenoord player top an ex-Ajax player  ;D ;D ;D

O well, see it this way my friend, living in a free nation is much more important than having a good national football team ;)

(P.S. did I spot your brother in the technical staff ?? ;) ;) )

Anyway, the scoring powers of the Dutch inspired me very much and I played some more DK :D :D

Not to derail - Denmark was going to WM with a 2-1 lead, 3 minutes before the match was over, Italy scored again... So now were not going  :( ;D ;D

The last time Scotland were in the WC was 1998. Failed to qualify ever since... although we did hammer France and Italy (world's number 1 and 2) in the qualifiers for Euro 2008. We didn't qualify for that either. We suck when it matters and play like gods when it doesn't. Typical. Onwards and upwards... we do have a saying that the Scots support two teams in the world... Scotland and any other team that plays against England.  ;D

I never understood why Wales, North-Ireland, England and Scotland are separate "countries" during these tournaments anyway......why not a "UK" team ? After all that is one country right ?

Technically yes, but we view ourselves independent... a bit like Spain and the Basque and Catalonian regions. I like your point on a UK team, but it would never happen.
