My grail....
« on: February 20, 2013, 08:32:40 PM »
....for the coming years no more machines for me, but of course everyone has his grail.....

(See picture)

This picture was taken from the february 1983 edition of Atari's Coin Connection => http://arcarc.xmission.com/Newsletters/Atari%20Coin%20Connection/Coin_Conn_V7-N02.pdf

The picture is from the London 1983 ATE show and hence the Irish cabinets there....

Of course we all know the flyer of Atari's Popeye cab but this is the first time I actually see real cabs in "the wild" (as far as you can call a show the wild....)

Browsing through all these Coin Connections (regretfully not all issues are there) you get a pretty nice insight about Atari's arcade division from 1976 to 1983.  Something I noticed was that pictures, quotes and names of Atari's "suits" are EVERYWHERE and NOWHERE you will find one name of the people who created the games......

Anyway, this is a joy to browse through:

Even though I use the Arcade Archive very often I only discovered these scans today :)

Ok. Dimmu--Borgirs friend proudly present the only, what we know of, Irish Atari/Nintendo Popeye cabinet in the world.

1. The cab is not for sale and will never be.
2. This is the only picture I'm allowed to post.
3. I will soon break the highscore on this one..  ;D

Enjoy!

I have a few Coin Connection and I just checked but all of them are already available via arcarc.xmission.
Thanks for the link, Dre, it's awesome to have most of them available in PDF!

That side art is completely too small.....

Mmmm, maybe they just downsized the side art for the production machines....

Everything else looks vey genuine.....the flyer shows black buttons and this one has yellow but that could be another production change......

We need inside pics !  ;D ;D ;D

Huh?

To be honest? I don't know. I guess he's not very interested shouting out to the world. It was several months it surfaced. 100% autentic for the doubters though. We'll have to respect his wishes.

I'll do my best for future references regarding this outstanding grail.

Of course we have to respect his opinion, I am glad to see confirmed there is at least one survivor! !!!!!

Just bring this beauty to Eurocade/RGE 2014 and we will leave him in peace forever :D :D
