upsidedown......

Yes, it looks like Namco decided to use a different screen orientation for their boards?
I also own Ms PacMan/Galaga 'reunion board', Namco Classics vol 1 & 2 ... and this Assault! All these boards have that same orientation... and of course, no option/switch to easily invert the picture  :P

Let's continue the examination... dirty panel...

...mhhh, a 'restrictor plate' or something else must be broken inside both Joystick ... they can be rotated, which is not possible normally, see  :?

Worst, the triggers are missing, their 'location' are broken, and we also can guess that the operator drilled additional holes with the hope of using other buttons instead the original trigger one!  :-X

Now, I curious to see if the monitor/power supply still works...

...because, remember, the power cord was cut! I'm wondering why?

Removing the protection, and I can see the entire power cord, wind round itself... probably cut right before the plug...

OK, after connecting a new plug, let's plug the board in and...

Yeah!!!!  :-* :-* :-*

Ok, still a lot of work to do on this cabinet, but happy to have a 'working base'  8)

Crazy kong has the same symptom, you can "fix" that by reversing the yoke wires.

A 4way rocker switch between the chassis and the yoke will do the job, wire it up like this:

EDIT:  whoops forgot the picture

Got from US a pair of 'non broken' Assault dedicated joysticks...

...ready for the transplantation...

...anatomy of an Assault joystick  ;D

...and operation terminated! See how the previous owner tried desperately to use that joystick, first by the addition of a small button(see the hole), and then by the square hole done on the trigger area to receive that red square button... but unfortunately for him, there's almost no other way to play Assault than using these dedicated joysticks. He finally give up these 'fix' attempts, and pull of this cabinet out of the exploitation  ::)

Now that panel but also the entire cabinet need a good cleaning...

Magic sponge, soap & water ...and that's it!

Fluorescent tube or stater doesn't work anymore! Let's replace both of them!

(new stuff on the top of the last picture.. it's cool to buy stuff in a shop close to me, for one time!)

On a location test 8)

Fully playable now! Just few last things to do :

- build a back door (missing)
- add locks
- find a bezel (missing)

Nice clean up and restoration.
I remember playing this game in late 80ies on generic cab.
Dedicated cab is way better looking.
This game is really nice to enjoy  with its rotating pseudo 3D engine.

Yeps, very similar than the famous SNES 'mode 7'.

i love this cab. the shape is just great and it looks very special in every gameroom. would love to own this one some day. :)

Looking for Dragons Lair 1 or 2, Space Ace, Double Dragon, Robotron and yeah... a Shinobi would be cool, too!
