Restoring old buttons metal rings
« on: June 20, 2012, 12:27:49 AM »
Hi all,
I'm trying to restore these pushbuttons:

I'm having hard time cleaning the metal rings and making them shiny again, any ideas on products I could use? I guess they are made in aluminium but I'm not really sure.

I'm afraid there's nothing you can do. Aluminium oxidates. At first it is white and protects the alu underneath. But as time goes by it gets black (rubbing it accelerates this process). That's what I know. You might try to use a steel brushto remove the uppermost layer of oxid but I don't know if this will be successfull.

Thanks Luigi, I'm afraid to scratch them with a metal brush I'll keep them like this for now...
