These are some pictures from the factory one I have - note the diodes on the control panel leaf switches:

These are from the one I restored that illustrates how I worked around the odd connectors:

This one is from Dambusters, a Quasar conversion, to illustrate the KT-3 video input conversion to none-inverted video that you might need to undo:

If you need any further pictures or information, just ask :) The manual is online and has the wiring schematic in it.

Paul.

Well, it was deliberate to not inline the pictures and leave them full resolution so he can see any exact details he might need to know :)

Well...

As luck would have it, I picked up a second Quasar from an individual in Hagerstown (not Lloyd).  The game is complete, used to work but recently quit.  Game has been home owned since 1993.

So, now I have 2 Quasars, I'll be selling the original I had that needs some re-assembly.

If anyone in the US is interested in the original, drop me a line.

I'm waiting for a QUASAR for a year, I hope to have the opportunity to pick up it soon.
I can see by the pictures plexi is broken. Has soneone one for spare?

Marco

It is glass not plexi and very hard to find.
If there is only that damage on that corner, you should repair it with some glue. :)

Silly question.

How do I best remove the marquee?

Heheh that's a lot of fun.

1) Between the back and the top of the cab is slanted access panel held in by four carriage bolts with wing nuts on the other side.
2) Slide your hand up until you feel the bolts - the trick here is to avoid creasing the cardboard surround trying to get at the two top ones.
3) With all four bolts undone, the panel pops out and provides access to the marque light and marque bolts.
4) Undo the marque bolts and the top and bottom plates come off allowing the marque to be removed.

I started down that path...and thought - this can't be right.

Oop.  Glad to be informed, and to be mindful of the cardboard...

Wow.  That was a hoot.  About 2 hours of my life gone - when I dropped the washer in the game, couldn't find it, and spent over an hour looking for it....

But I did learn some cool things about the cabinet as I started to dismantle it, including the access to the chassis.  Majorly cool.

So, that said.  Tested my 3 boardsets once I got settled.  Bummer, none of them work.  The final one I tested was close, could hear everything in the background, but have a nice Quasar-y garbage on the screen.

At least I got the game cleaned on the outside, and my NOS marquee from Thorsten installed.  So the game is looking pretty nice.

I have a bunch of spare Quasar boards but IIRC they were all dead aside from one that's in a cab. Since then I have probably acquired some more untested. I have family visiting for a week, but after then I can dig them all out to see if I can get one going for your cab.

If the one you have that has bad graphics is otherwise working, sounds like it might be the one to try and get fully working. If they're completely dead then they often need a Fluke and no native 2650 pod exists only an adaptor for the Z80 pod (that I don't have) making repair awkward and slow :|

Paul.

I know Etienne intended it well, but it's not very handy to have pictures in this thread that do not even fit my 27" iMac screen.....I think there was a reason for Jeff not to post them as images in the thread......

Even on my 60Mb connection it takes long to fully open this thread.....might be wise to reverse your well intended help Etienne..... ;D ;D
