The Danube started to freeze
« on: February 07, 2012, 11:00:57 PM »
Our river the Danube, that splits Budapest to Buda and Pest started to freeze, the last time when you could step on the ice was in the 18th century.
I made some pics and a small video today, enjoy. ;)

Cool ! ;)

Must be global heating ;)

Over here we hope that the 11 city tour will be anounced soon !
A 200km skating tour over natural ice in Friesland. The last year It was held was 1997.

This would be the fourth "Elf Steden Tocht" In my lifetime. 1985,1986, 1997 and hopefully 2012 !!!

All info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elfstedentocht

One of the great things is that the contenders start from a central hall, they run a bit to the ice, have to put on their skates and only then can start this epic tour. Along the route thy have to collect stamps of all the cities to prove they completed the tour. Small parts where there are poor ice conditions, the contenders have to run over land which is called "Klunen".
