ZD 917 Soldering Station
« on: January 20, 2012, 05:59:06 PM »
After a lot of hesitation, I finally found myself a soldering/desoldering station in Germany called ZD 917.
It works like a charm, I tested the desoldering side with a simple cap, it was less than 15 sec to remove it. :D
Available here for just 119 eur (in Hunagry the same model is 210 :?).

Don't forget to wet that sponge Bela  ;)

I love my Pace, a desolder station is such a great addition to the toolbox !

don't know how yours handle "big" desolder jobs, but i sometimes use the normal iron in combi to get it hot faster..

and was there a cleaning tool in the set ?
something like this is recommendable also :

Sometimes it just gets stuffed with old sticky solder residue  :P

Thanks Etienne, there was a nice amount of spare parts in the set (also a set of cleaning tools) and I ordered some spare soldering and desoldering tips, filters, etc. ;)
I cannot describe the difference when you use professional tools for this job. :D

Btw., what is the recommended temperature for soldering/desoldering chips and other parts?

My usual setting for soldering is 370. When the solderings/pads are quite large I go up in temp to 400.

Something you should know: if a soldering is on a large Ground area of the PCB ( a VERY wide "track") this means that there is a lot of cupper that is conducting away the heat from your point of soldering. This may also require a bit higher temperature. It is better to up the temp a bit so that you dont have to hold the iron for too long against the solder.

I know I have written this tip lots of times before, but it is a golden one esp. since we are usually dealing with 30 year old solderings: when the old solder doesnt flow, hold a bit of new one aginst it and the iron. The flux has totaly gone in the old solder and the flux in the new solder will get it fluid MUCH quicker than just heating it up for a long time.

By the way, nice looking set, wouldnt be surprised if thhat came from the same manufacturer as my soldering station. I feel like an amateur now, not owning a desoldering station ;)

Many thanks for the tips André, 90 % of your tutorial is absolutely new for me, I will have to learn everything from the basics ;)
I soldered/desoldered some parts yesterday with the machine, worked fine, I think it really worth that price.

I stumbled upon a desoldering station that simply put is half of the unit Béla bought, and we discussd it and he came up with an even cheaper address for it:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/SMD-Entlotstation-ESD-digital-Entlotkolben-140W-480-C-/400270841277?pt=Schweiß_Löttechnik&hash=item5d320055bd

Thats an unbelievable price. EXTREMELY tempting as I am fed up with the loose pump and wick....but No budget at the moment. Why is it that I never know what to ask for my birthday around my birthday and not much later I see all kinds of useful stuff that Id like to have ;);)

That looks exactly the same as the duratool desoldering station I have:

Maybe a rebadged version..... Good piece of kit and very affordable in comparison to other ones.
