That thruster is going to fit in this:

So, for every Asteroids owner who ever wondered why the heck 95% of the Asteroids CP is empty (and thus not too comfy to play....(wrong angle top), this explains it:
it was meant to house the huge thruster _and_ the back-lit mission indications on Lunar Lander.....

And here's the heart of the system......a pretty rare piece of hardware and thus not cheap.....but it's working (at least it was when the seller tested it.....)

The Eagle has landed ! ......well not yet (aka The Lunar Lander Project)
« Reply #20 on: January 14, 2012, 11:20:08 AM »
This may well become the longest running thread ever as I see this as a long term project.

You have all seen I have been aquiring parts to make a Lunar Land out of a converted Asteroids cab, but there was no "central" thread for it yet...

Anyway, I just found a great posting from Dokert on how to test Atari Power Bricks and AR1s. I definitly will need to do this first BEFORE connecting them to my precious LL pcb since I dont know the condition on either the brick nor the AR1.

Uh, well Bruno decided to merge this into this thread, but I intended to start a dedicated thread for the Lunar Lander project because the other was (originally) only about getting the thruster and didn't have an appropriate title. I wanted to add all the info (links) to the various threads that are about the thruster, the power brick, the AR1 and the cab, but no problems I will do that in this thread now and adjust the title a bit...

[Edit] uhhh, I can't edit the title of the first post anymore ?

Alright Bruno will change the name of this thread, hope you guys don't get confused now ;) ;)

By the way, it's such a great name: Lunar Lander. So very basic and yet again it has something magic about it, it sounds great.

Well, like the real Apollo project this is going to be a long one :) I'm sure it will be one small step to start a game at the end, but it will be a major leap to get there  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

When i was picking up the QQ at Archer´s place i had a closer look at his LL, and i must say, there´s something about that thrust handle! Beautiful cab, very basic setup! -  simpler is sometimes better!!!!

The Eagle has (almost) landed ! (aka the Lunar Lander project)

Yeah. I remember as a kid I was TOTALLY attracted by that handle. You know, about the same like every game that had a steering wheel. I mean these machines gave you the chance to operate real life machines you were not allowed to handle yet (or ever in the case of a space craft) and a child's imagination easily makes you think you really ARE the master of that ship ;)

My son and some friends sometimes played that my game room was a space ship, and they were traveling through intergalactic space and every child had his set of controls to do certain (SW like) things. They loved playing like that and the machines were all off :P Nothing better than a child's imagination, it's sad that the real world often messes it up when growing up.....

I loved LL BITD although I remember it seeing and playing only once.

Gee.....I totally love www.mikesarcade.com !

After first finding that excellent label creator for jukebox titles, now I find this:

http://www.mikesarcade.com/arcade/artwork/asteroids_bezel.pdf

It's a scanned version of the Asteroids bezel which will work perfectly as a template for my (black) Lunar Lander bezel :) :) :)

I also found out that I still needed this:

for the mission lights...looks like they will be done again and they are affordable:
http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=221186

I still can't justify the $110 for the back-board that carries the lamps though (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=208681&highlight=lunar+lander+mission). I can see why they are this price because of the very low number run, but I still think making a vero-board version saves a lot of money...and this project is expensive enough as it is :S

Now.....if anyone knows an affordable owl-eye coin door anywhere, I'm 100% set (harness will hopefully be done by Dokert in the US !)
