Eurocade 'Run to the Arcade' sign on a T-shirt
« on: October 25, 2011, 06:38:23 PM »
Guys, someone on Nozomi forum noticed the 'Run to the Arcade' sign which was used during Eurocade, and he asked over there if the file was available somewhere to use for a T-shirt. I contaced Etienne who gladly supplied the file, to use free of charge.  :spaceace:

And now another Nozomi member, jinxz, is going to print some T-shirts with the sign, at first exclusively for Nozomi members. But I figured, what the heck, most Eurocade participants came from DLF, so I asked him if it is OK to post his sale here. He agreed.

So, jinxz from Nozomi is going to print these T-shirts, in the following quality and sizes:

I don't know if you guys are interested, but here is the deal:

If someone wants one of them, or more, then he can order and pay it through me (jinxz isn't a DLF member).
Prices: € 15 per T-shirt (if there are more than 10 orders in total, the price will be € 12,50).

Postage costs is:
- For The Netherlands: € 3,50 for up to 2 T-shirts, € 7,50 for 3 or more T-shirts
- For other countries : € 3,50 for 1 T-shirt, € 7 for 2 T-shirts, € 10 if you order more than 2 T-shirts

If you want to order, then shoot me a PM with your full name and your adress, the size and color of the T-shirt and how many you want. I then answer you with a return PM with the total costs, which you pay me through Paypal (Paypal only, gift, or 4% extra to cover fees, read this carefully)

I will pass your orders and the money to jinxz, who will print and send the T-shirts.

Closing date is 1. November, which means I need to have your payment at that date. Or else it is helaas pindakaas.

By the way, Etienne isn't involved in this, but he gave the OK.

UHHHHH, why wasn't I asked about this ?

I totally stole the idea of that sign from a German arcade club that is located in or near Frankfurt.

It would be fair and decent to at least ask them if they would have any problems with it. I thought it would be OK for use inside the Eurocade building but this is one step further....

Update: the club is not in Frankfurt but in Karlsruhe and here is the site:

http://www.retrogames.info/

You can see the sign right on that page and that's where I stole the idea from.

Erik, I think it would be best to drop them a mail and see how they feel...

UHHHH why?

Well, because I didn't know that. Etienne told me that he got a sign from you and changed it somewhat to this. By the way they are also on vectorlib, where anybody can pick them up and do with it what they want. So, no sweat.

But it shouldn't be a big issue, I will send them an e-mail and show the the topic on nozomi (cn't show them this topic, it's closed for non-members.

Edit: I dropped them an e-mail, although I don't think that there should be a problem. I saw a similar sign, although a bit different, much uglier, smaller.

It's like Apple who stole all good designs from the 'legendary' Braun company. Similar, but not the same.  :D

Edit 2: on second thought, André 'stole' the idea, Etienne merely used the idea to design something from scratch. Why should Í contact them? Anyway, I already did, can't turn that around, but whatever their response, the sale will continue (I'm not selling them, I'm acting here as an intermediar for the DLF members who are not on Nozomi), as the printer can also get them from vectorlib (might already have done so).

Besides, we are all using and/or reproducing original artwork, it's a necessary part of the hobby.

I gave the file because its not the one that the other guy made.
The idea is indeed "stolen" but i drew it completely from scratch so technicaly the "copyrights" for this file are with me.

I do agree that we should have contacted you about it, but since i did not get any responses to earlier PM's at the time, i did not do that.

Anyway, i think its good to inform the original ideamaker, and i have told Erik that i did not "designed" it, but that i received it from you.
and as with all the files i create, i share them without charge.

On topic again, despite above discussion, the T-shirts will be available until 1. November. Get them while you can, or not of course.  :)

Edit: eerste twee T-shirts zijn besteld.  :)

Let it be clear that I have no problem with it at all.
I stole the idea for the use inside the Eurocade location only. I discussed it with Etienne and he did the work based on an existing emergency escape design which is a standard design in Europe.

I never was asked if it was ok to put it on Vectorlib so I know nothing about that. Again, I don't mind that it's there though, but it was not my intention to publish these graphics files which we intended for Eurocade only.

As long as pthe guys in Karlsruhe don't mind I'm fine with it. It probably is not a registered design or anything, but I always put myself in the place of the guy who had the original idea, how I would feel about it. I wouldn't mind, but others may have a different opinion.

I'm glad they are informed now, thanks.

PS, did the guys at Nozomi actually like the classic arcade cabinet design ??  ;D

Just to be clear also, i have asked zorg to pull the file from vectorlib untill further notice.

in other words, if we get response from the original "ideamaker" i can ask zorg to put it up again or not.

I did'nt think about it too much since 1. its not the same, 2. its build from scratch 3. i share almost all my files  :D

But thinking again after it, i agree it would be the correct thing to do and share it after response of them.
