"Supermodel" - A *working* Sega Model 3 Arcade Emulator
« on: October 09, 2011, 07:32:33 PM »
Supermodel Version 0.2a is out!

Wow! I'm not checking every emulator around, especially the ones in beta phase, but this one really kick ass and need a try!
Model 3 boards are really complex boards... and emulate them seems to be crazy!
But with this release, the dream comes true!

Check out the model3 games list right here.

For those who owns model3 boards, you all know what happen if something go wrong on your boards... with the exception of few crazy technicians, there are too modern for trying to do something by yourself :-\ . And most of the time, no other solution than to send the boards to Sega for a big amount of $€$€  :-X
So this emulator may be a 'new hope' to continue to enjoy model3 games  8)

I've never installed any game on my iMac, but when I saw this : "R. Belmont has posted an experimental Mac OS X binary at his blog. I've also put it up on the official Download page. It requires the SDL framework and should work on at least Snow Leopard and Lion (Intel only). There is no GUI, so familiarity with using the terminal is necessary. "
OK, why not to try it?

[Anakin voice mode=ON]It's working... IT'S WORKINNNGG! [Anakin voice mode=OFF]

Star Wars runs at full speed on my iMac (2,5 years old) and without the exception of few graphics glitches here and there, it's almost perfect! Very promising  :-*

I'm also fan of an other Model3 game : SCUD RACE  :-*

That one looks perfect  :o

My Daytona is currently suffering from a faulty boardset. I hate emulation in my cabs but about 400,- EUR for a new boardset might force me to. Good to see that it is working at least. The remaining problem is to use the original controls (incl. force feedback) to race on the pc ... I know that it can be done but it's still a challenge.

Force feedback is the ONLY problem when using emulation on your arcade racing cabinet. I had success using MAME on my (now sold) racer cabinet

look at >>this<< link for details  ;)

Hmmm, yeah but that shows only how to connect the steering wheel and the pedals. The model 2 and also the supermodel emu support ff for certain games (those which driver board is dumped, which is Daytona and Scud Race f.i.). All you need is an interface to "translate" the pc wheel ff to the driving cab ff ... which is like I said a bit complicated but it was done already:

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=fr&tl=en&twu=1&u=http://www.gamoover.net/tuto/l2m2-interfacer-un-ffb-et-volant-sega-model-12-avec-un-pc-ou-une-playstation-23

I will build that circuit and use it in my model 2 Daytona ... if my boardset turns out to be broken beyond repair. I think that might work but is quite a lot of work to do.
