Nice trick with the photoshop. :spaceace: :spaceace:
In addition, to avoid having to place every items separately and manually, I would suggest to separate the various parts (fur, stars, etc...) on different layers in photoshop itself.
Once it's done, save the file in .psd
Then open it in illustrator choosing the option that keeps the layers active (and doesn't flatten the artwork).
From there just autotrace it layers by layers like you're used to and adjust the colors if needed.

Okay guys, opinion needed..
here a shot of the grider exactly as the squares fit together:

As you can see it has a little space between it and its not "stacked" straight on top of eachother..
Here a shot in pink:

Here a shot with the "gaps filled":

And one in pink:

Here one with the squares attached to eachother without gaps:

And another one in pink:

I am in doubt, i like the tightness of the last, but the first is original...

HELP !  ;D

As always, I would go as much as possible for the original.

Thanks for the reply's so far.

While waiting, i did tackle the halftone part..
I thought there was no halftoning in this, but i was wrong  :D

Anyway, its a small one that i can copy and copy and then again copy  ;D

The original:

Calculated the same distance and placed some guides..

Cut the holes out, and Presto !

looking at it again, i might have better used a bit bigger dots..
well its 3 cm wide so no-one will notice it in the end i think  ;)

i would stick to the original one as well, because this is stuff which has been stacked on top of each other, not a single mass!
all i need is ... PONG - and a select few others: TOUCH ME, DRAGON'S LAIR, JOUST, ROBOTRON, MR DO, SAN FRANCISCO RUSH THE ROCK!!!

Okay, thank you all for your opinion.

I tended to the more perfect option, but originality wins  ;)

one grider segment is vector ready:

And with a brown background it even looks better  :P

Lets see whats up next ..

The monkey is next  :P

Same procedure as explaned before, Photoshop, magic wand, paint black, cut, paste in illustrator and autotrace.

Loos like Mr monkey was at the barbershop  ;D

Next the face part..

Combined in AI..

Eyes and mouth added...

Head finished with brown background..

He looks scary doesn't he !, very mean!  :P
