Little update, received last week my PCB cage, I do not really have time to work on it before.
Today, it's the moment to take care of it  ;D

Is that all SW cockpit parts are just as rotten ?

After work this afternoon

sanding of course and phosphoric acide inside...

I also found my atari's cash box .. I gave it a little beauty too

Meanwhile all the parts that are ready quietly waiting, patiently in the Star Wars 's wardrobe (c)

To paint the Pcb cage, I chose the  hammered paint I bought at the beginning. a little shiny but it's ok for me.

First, Primer even if it is not necessary with this paint and always my beautiful paint booth

then black (dark gray) hammered paint

good question
I did not expect to recover the original appearance, I mean, I don't think I succeeded, it is not a painting but a treatment of metal but I may be wrong  ???

I think that looks a whole lot better than trying to make it look like a "golden" finish again, which will probably never look close anyway.

I have good news, and I have bad news !

The good news: I found the left-over black (pica) vinyl.
The bad news: The left over pieces are too small !!! :(

Now I'm going to have to buy some more. Bought this through Suzo but they don't have a "take away" counter anymore so it's harder to order now for me...or at least more expensive.
The stuff is very expensive too from them...I am currently looking at alternatives....with some help here and there, stay tuned....
