Wanted - Commodore Amiga 600
« on: July 13, 2011, 10:36:22 PM »
I'm searching for an Amiga 600, with power supply and video cable, in working order of course. Extra's like an internal HD and or a PCMCIA adapter are also welcome. Anyone?

I don't have one for sale, but you could give it a try on www.amigascene.nl (to see if anyone in Holland has got one) or www.amibay.com (international trading site)
No arcade cab(s) yet, but happy owner of 2 Colecovisions, 2 Amigas and a pc running Mame.

I didn't find a complete machine, but the adapters are available in Hungary for 2-3 euros

And I also found some kind of fastram turbocard for it

I will keep my eyes open, they appear very often for a good price here.

A little addition: external harddisks for the A600 are pretty uncommon. But since the A600 has an internal IDE port you can easily put in a CF2IDE adapter, those things cost only a few euros... Add a CF card of a few gigabytes and you're ready to go!

There are even new turbocards available for the A600: http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=43&products_id=1003
Also nice: an internal scandoubler/flickerfixer so you can hook it up to a modern TFT monitor: http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=918

Thanks for the info guys. I was aware of the internal IDE option. I do have an Amiga 500 at the moment, but transferring ADF files from my PC to the Amiga and then copy them on a DD floppy is a real pain in the ash, and very time consuming (I use this kit: http://cgi.ebay.de/ADF-Transfer-Kit-Amiga-500-600-1000-1200-2000-3000-4000-/250850478203?pt=Klassische_Computer&hash=item3a67da887b). So I decided to get myself an Amiga 600 with which copying files from a CF card to a floppy will be much easier (I like to have a nice collection of Amiga games on floppy's).

I will check out amigascene.nl, but if one of you find one, or have one for sale, please feel free to contact me.

If you already have an A500, then an A600 is more of the same IMHO. An A1200 costs about as much as an A600, but you'll get a faster CPU, the AGA chipset which let you play even more different games (there's quite a few very good AGA games around), and a lot better expandability.

Also, regardless if you choose an A600 or A1200 (both have PCMCIA), may I recommend this kit for file-transfer: http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=440 - it's pretty much a standard PCMCIA CF adapter, but it comes with a very useful piece of software which makes file transfering very easy
(and no, I'm in no way affiliated with AmigaKit - I just happen to have very good experiences with them  ;) )

thanks, that is some good info, might as well go for the A1200  :D Nope, still going for the A600, but with the kit.

Seriously, never? It's a pretty common and well known model, it was the big brother of the A500, launched in 1987. I've owned quite a few of those as well.

There's quite a lot of Amiga models actually, from small systems like the A500 and A600 up to the big A4000 tower, and even a 32-bit games console (the CD32) which was pretty awesome for it's time.

Just look around on Wikipedia, you'll find tons of info on all Amiga models - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiga

It sure looks nice, but  €70 is a bit pricy, + postage.

And I received my SD floppy emulator for the Amiga a few days ago, I installed a few hundreds game on an SD card and can now play the games much easier than before. I even can copy games from the floppy emulator to a real external floppy drive. So for the moment I leave it with my 500.
