Belgian championship Pac Man
« on: October 19, 2010, 06:44:09 PM »
All details on the following link(In Dutch);

http://www.bkpacman.be/nl/home/

You can win cash prizes or a real arcade machine!!! I hope Billy Mitchell doesn't show up so I might have a chance at winning  :D. Yet again he's not Belgian so I guess he can't play.

that's great. Is it held on an arcade cabinet? or on an Atari computer with joystick?

I think it's a fun initiative :ghost: :ghost: :ghost:

If you look at the URL, there's a /nl/home/ in there, I'm assuming that's because they plan a /fr/home/ version/event later.

I tried the fr by curiosity ;)

"Per locatie zullen de 2 spelers met de hoogste score aan het einde van de dag worden uitgenodigd voor de finale van het Belgisch Kampioenschap Pac-Man 2010 (voorzien eind november 2010)"  . Last contest is on the 14th of november in Antwerp. That'd give 1 week left to do the whole "Wallonia" as i don't count the week for the final. I seriouly doubt there'll be able to do that , ... well who cares after all :-) but that's just a pity

maybe it is because the Wallonians would have called it "PacqueMonsieur Champion" or something like that  ;D
that would be so stupid I guess, so the organization probably decided to skip that part

Yeah I saw that. thought they might just do a separate one later, avoid pitting players from each region in the finals in case they've been drinking the political kool-aid.

The rules mention that the first rounds are played on a "Pac-Man spelconsole" = Pac Man Gameconsole, which doesn't actually sound like a real cab to me.
You _can_ win real cabs if you become 2nd or 3rd though !

The rules do not mention that you have to be of Belgian origin soooo....it seems like it's an "open" tournament....

What I don't get is: WHO IS THE SPONSOR ??

The first prize is mentioned to be 5000 euro's plus a bonus per completed level.. that's a big prize, I mean SOMEONE has to be the sponsor right ?

The sponsor is radio Nostalgie (shown on the home page in the tv screen). It's a Flemish radio station that plays oldies. Also Concentra is behind it, one of the largest media companies in Belgium.

Arcadia Amusements provided the tabletop pacman machine and the big arcade machine was purchased in the Netherlands for quite a large amount. Therefore my guess is that it will be a brand new 25th anniversary pacman machine that can be won.
