....but of course it didnt happen just like that. I had left my iPod Nano (4th gen) in the pocket of a shirt and it accidentily got washed   

I looked up a youtube video how to open it and that was easy enough. Dried everything inside with a hair dryer ( low heat!) and reassembled. Tried starting it nothing, figured the battery had been run down seriously because of the water shorting it so connected it to a charger, nothing, not even after trying it to hard-reset.

Gonna wait a week then try to chrge it anyway and we'll see what happens. Although I often use my iPad now for playing music (mostly because of the Airtunes playback to my sound system) I still used the iPod a lot in the car.....

Did you mean airplay when dealing with airtunes ?
