O yeah ?  Switched in 2006 and I will _never_ go back.

I've always had a hate-hate relation with PCs. I managed to keep using my ST until deep in the 90's until I "had" to switch to PC...from the first moment that hard-drive was doing things without me giving any reason for it (under Winblows) I hated and mistrusted it. I'm glad I've been able to free myself of MS.

If only my boss would do the same, I want a MacBook instead of those shitty cheaply built PC laptops that last about 1 year only !

Oh, and I'm a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer  ;D

I've spent WAY too much time trying to keep my (and other people's) PC's up and running with virusses, troublesome software, instability and malware all aroud. Not to mention drivers and all those headaches.

I came to a point that I wanted to actually USE my computer instead of MAINTAIN it half the time.

well, i am a microsoft man, but i dont say that mac is satan

it's just a matter of preference IMHO

there are things in MS that are very good, there are things that mac is doing good, and the same is for all the other variations of ...ux based systems.

for graphic applications the mac is more suitable in my opinion, i mean all the great designers and graphic artists are not using the mac for nothing.

on the other end for servers you're better of with a ..ux or windows based system..

again, its a long discussion between ux , mac and win users wich i think will never end  8)

Indeed it's a never ending discussion. What I just can't stand that people who never even TRIED to use OS X for a while seem to already have an opinion about it.

But I've always been "against the stream" like that.

Everybody buys VHS? I go for Betamax (because it was a better quality system)
Everybody buys a C64 ? I buy an Atari 600XL. (because it was a better machine)
Everybody buys an Amiga ? I go for the ST. (because it was affordable for me)

But Etienne, you are still in IT bussines. tel me, on which servers do you run business critical applications ? I remember when I was in IT and starting my first job. I was shown around and got a lot of explanation about the server network they had (not NT but Novell, do they still exist at all ?) and what it took to maintain it.

And then they pointed to a Unix server somewhere in the corner and they said, well that runs all the really important business critical stuff and once a year a guy comes in for half a day and does the maintenance......

And you know what basis OS X is running on I'm sure...

Oh, and I'm a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer  ;D

Thats funny ;)

me too, i am certified in NT4, 2003 and 2008, i skipped 2000 "on paper"..

i don't do novell, but i have collegues that do, so i don't know what is the percentage of novell users today, i quit novell at 3.12  ;D

They still exist, but its linux based too now (suse enterprise server)

and yes, i know mac based on linux, i have installed adobe on some friends macbook

i like your example with VHS, guess what videorecorder we used to own...  right ! a betamax  :D

and since i am a Microsoft man, my customers use Windows server 2003 and 2008, and many of them are on top of VmWare, wich is pretty cool stuff i think.

it also depends on your applications, i mean some applications / servers are only available on windows or unix platforms.
