I use a product by MAPLINS in the UK called Label Remover in an aerosol can, it just melts the adhesive right off, great stuff. Any decent electronics store should have something like it.

Thank you very much for this one. I just ordered this #68 issue.

Would you perhaps know if they wrote something about Solvalou, and if so in what issue? Solvaou is sort of a prequel to Starblade, even though the story and themes are different, they have many similarities like the cabinet with the mirror.

I think it may have been mentioned, but you are right the cabs are very similiar, although I have yet to see one in the flesh. They seem to be much more rarer than Starblades.

Acutally, I think that one may be able to build such a strobe flash. If you can take pictures from the top and bottom of the PCB, make notes what components are used (if any custom/unkown parts are present), we can make our own strobes. No problem.

You are thinking the way I am thinking, I reckon you could rebuild these pretty cheap, they dont use any custom components. I may try this and document it.

Equites, what a beautiful Starblade you've got there.

Thanks dude - it's my pride and joy. Some day, once Galaxian3 is emulated I really want to build a custom cab for it, I would of course need a spare Starblade controller for this task. Nice to see other Starblade/Galaxian3 fans out there.

Are you in the UK? Im am in Cheshire/England.

Equites, if I had only known you needed a Starblade gun. I gave mine away for free to a friend here in Sweden, so he could hang it on his wall. He only paid me the shipping costs which btw were pretty expensive alone.

My cannon was in OK condition with a little crack on the red LED-lamp cover. The handles were ofcourse pretty loose as with all Starblades I've tested. But I had fixed that with paper inlays to stabilize the handles some. It worked fine. Also I cleaned the buttons down to the smallest detail as I even desoldered the little PCB underneath the switch for 100% access.

The Starblade cannon I think is exactly the same as Galaxian3, and is based on a general design used in other gun games today, latest being Let's Go Jungle. I may be wrong though.

On the other hand, I would really like to feel a Galaxian3 gun, and if I like the feeling even have one. Any color would do, just that it must in good shape with all plastics intact. I love the handles and the white plastic, and I think that Galaxian3 guns are nicer than the Starblade one.

I appreciate the gesture dude. Im missing a couple of buttons on my controller, thats all I need really but you can never have too many spares!

You are probably right, the Galaxian3 controller is probably pretty much the same as the Starblade variant. However, the plastic casing is quite big for the Galaxian3, pretty cool.

I'm not calling him names am I ? I know about Starblade: Everybody loves it but no-one has the space for it (well not many).

I know the reality of how the vast majority of all those classic games have been demolished, I'm not blind. Just giving a little poke like I  like to do every now and then.

I knew you were poking fun and so was I. Sorry dude if my humour was misunderstood.

You smash up Starblades and even dare to admit it here ?
 :o :o :o :o :o :o

Im sure Olly had reason, he loves Starblade as much as anyone here. Be nice to him cos I want him to sell me a Starblade controller.

I need some of these for my Starblade cab, is there no Euro alternative to these? Where can I source these from?

Cool - I've got Galaxian3 PAL version with english dialogue and JPN version, I have to admit to prefer the PAL version although the JPN version is more authentic I guess. Im playing it on my PSX too with 42" Plasma and full blown 5.1 experience with REL subwoofer. Im lucky enough to have bought a PSX Analogue stick back then and still have it!

I have just got my pride and joy, a Starblade cab (Yellow Seat version). It needs a little work but I am going to restore it no expense spared.

Now my plan is to find another Starblade cab, I would prefer non-yellow seat version this time though, my plan is to turn it into a Galaxian3 cab. Thanks to the work done by Bruno we should have Galaxian3 emulated soon.

Although the PSX version is great, its just a shame that it is by todays standards quite low resolution. The emulated version will look so much better.

I'll happily post pictures if the Mods say it is ok, with the magazine being copyright etc..

DarthNuno that GT-6 looks like the Blackpool one, I wonder what happended to it.

I will post some pictures of my Galaxian3 PSX setup. Also, I should add that once Galaxian3 has been 100% emulated I am going to build a cockpit cab for both Starblade and Galaxian3 running in emulation. I just need to source a Starblade controller.

Oh, just seen you with a cool collection of cabs including a GT-6 in this months Retro Gamer, nice! I was wondering if your GT-6 was still in pieces or if you had rebuilt it. The article answered my question, good work.

Wow, I cannot believe you managed to find another Galaxian3 still being operated. Galaxian3 is my most favourite game of all time, the best I can do at the moment is to play on my PSX with Sony flight yoke stick, Sony surround system with REL subwoofer on my 42" plasma screen.

I used to travel to a place in the UK called Blackpool (North West of England) where they had a GT-6. It dissapeared about 4 years ago and I have not been able to find out what happened to it.

If I come across a GT-6 I will buy it and save it, awesome game. Otherwise, I will have to build a custom Starblade/Galaxian3 theatre once Galaxian3 is fully emulated.

DarthNuno, you are the Galaxian3 master....I obey!

What have you done with your Galaxian3?

Ok - for a start you have two power supplies there, the original one with the large transformer on the metal base, and a newer JAMMA style power supply (Hantarex?).  It is obvious that the original power supply failed and they just chucked in another rather than try to repair the original.  So, you would probablly be wasting your time looking at those fuses.

If you have a multimeter, you could start by checking for 5V and 12V output from the black power supply, however, BE CAREFUL 240V also here and not shielded!  If in doubt please do not tamper with this.  If I were close by I would have helped you out, where are you anyhow?

Boy, you have some questions there that only a beginner would ask.  You have come to the right place to learn, however, using a LCD display instead of CRT is a big no no.  If you can, restore the machine to its former glory using as much authentic parts as possible.  This way, you will enjoy the experience more and the machine will retain value.  Add a LCD screen and it will only be worth its parts.

Welcome anyway, I just joined too, but a programmer for 30 years, electronics engineer and absolute retro gamer who lived in the arcades in the 80's and early 90's so I got a head start.

scr33n - You are an absolute cab king.  I have read your scratch builds and much respect.

DarthNuno - I absolutely love Galaxian3 - my fave game of all time.  I have EVERYTHING except the real thing (unlike you!).  However I do have a real Starblade machine!
