All the rest / Stupid question
« on: November 09, 2010, 08:24:50 PM »
does anyone here knows or can advice about what the minimum temperature is to store your arcadecabinet?
What I am trying to say is: winter is coming up, and one of my cabs is placed in a shed in which I think it can get pretty cold.

All the rest / Today I received a package
« on: June 17, 2010, 08:22:51 PM »
Today I received a package from the US. I bought something on Ebay:

Since I am a great Simpsons fan and owner of the 4 player cab, I just had to buy this one:

It's the original Simpsons Noiseland Arcade Playset feat. Jimbo Jones!
It's a small size version of the arcade in the cartoon.

backside of the box with all different kinds of Simpsons town settings

always watch out for bully's in the arcade

and it's interactive, Jimbo talks if you press his back

The Noiseland Arcade hosts 3 cabinets: Larry the Looter, Slugfest and Nuke Canada (a trackball game which Mark Alpiger claims to have the high score on, playing with his foot that is)

In the Simpsons Arcade Game (and in the tv-series), the Noiseland Arcade makes an appearance too.

Inside Moe's Tavern there is an Aliens and Simpsons cabinet

Noiseland, the place where Bart spoils all his pocketmoney

so, yes I am happy

All the rest / 'New' Book: Replay the History of Video Games
« on: May 20, 2010, 05:12:31 PM »

A riveting account of the birth and remarkable evolution of the most important development in entertainment since television, Replay: The History of Video Games is the ultimate history of video games. From its origins in the research labs of the 1940s to the groundbreaking success of the Wii, Replay sheds new light on gaming's past. Along the way it takes in the spectacular rise and fall of Atari, the crazed cottage industry spawned by the computers of Sir Clive Sinclair, Japan's rapid ascent to the top of the gaming tree and the seismic impact of Doom.
Replay: The History of Video Games tells the sensational story of how the creative vision of game designers across the globe gave rise to one of the world's most popular and dynamic art forms. Based on extensive research and more than 140 interviews, Replay includes insights from video game legends such as Atari founder Nolan Bushnell, Will Wright - the creator of The Sims, Doom designer John Romero and Hironobu Sakaguchi of Final Fantasy fame. Replay also includes a foreword by Richard Garriott (aka Lord British), a gameography covering more than 800 of the most notable games ever made and a 26-page guide to the consoles and computers of gaming's past and present.

As Eugene Jarvis, the creator of Defender, puts it: "An amazing work. Comprehensive and wide ranging - yet engrossing and splendidly entertaining. If you read only one history of video games - Replay is it."

« on: March 30, 2010, 11:26:36 AM »
Yesterday-evening, there was an episode of a crimeshow called Bones on tv, which starred a mullet wearing record holder of the arcade game "Punkey Pong". I am wondering which documentary they watched before they wrote this Bones episode?

Arcade Lifestyle / [Roadtrip] - Gyruss and Ronnie chasing Ghosts
« on: March 12, 2010, 02:26:22 PM »

Most pictures in this topic were made by a camera phone, hence the low quality of the pictures. Nonetheless, we are so happy with our new cabinets, we still want to share our PacMan-roadtrip with you.

Saturday the 20th of February, I got a textmessage from Gyruss which said:
"There are 20 PacMan cabs and some Galaga's for sale, SICK!"
It was DarthNuno who made a topic about it. The picture said it all:

After some dreaming, drooling, checking the bankaccounts, private messaging with Ckong, fingerscrossing, etc. we heard the good news. Ckong was on it's way to Germany to negotiate with Paul, the seller, to make a nice bulkdeal in which we could join. Ofcourse we immediately said yes and gave Ckong our maximum price. I chose a Pacman and Gyruss went for the Ms. Pacman.

The next day Ckong informed us that the deal went through! I got a textmessage from Gyruss which said:
"PacMan gek!"

Ckong posted some nice pictures of the cabinets on the forum:

And luckily for us, Ckong was a good negotiator and made a nice price with the seller.
We agreed to pick up both the cabs the next day. The Roadtrip was on!

Statistics:
Date: 5 March 2010
Authors: Ronald Reagan & Gyruss
Target: Pac-man and Ms. Pacman
Trip: Holland
Total length: 220 kilometers
Duration: 18:00hrs - 22:00hrs

We rented a van across the track, at our 'friends' of Kuperus. The place we usually go if we go pick up a cabinet somewhere. Some awkward people work over there, but anyway, we drove off. In the mean time it started to rain 'cats and dogs'. Gyruss took the rural route to hit the highway.

We drove through a well known fishing area, where Gyruss' little brother used to go fish at night.

Once we hit the highway, we got caught up in a traffic jam. Slow traffic all the way.

So, it was time for some funky soul music along with the additional info of an arcadebook.

Because of the slow traffic, we talked a lot about our soon to own PacMan cab's and why the heck Level42 didn't bought one? Haha. Furthermore, we thought the marketingstory about the Atari SwordQuest was one of the best we have ever seen. More info on that here: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/angry-video-screwattack/61988

We passed the IKEA. "Doesn't that yellow K look like the mouth of a PacMan  :pac:" Gyruss said. I started to worry there, a little bit.

In the meanwhile, the weather got worse. Rain, Snow, more cats and dogs. Just see for yourself

We just drove on, and slowly the traffic jam disappeared.

Finally we could leave the highway. We could smell our cabinets already. (could have easily been something completely else ofcourse, but you know)

We drove several kilometres before we entered a small village.

After that, we were getting closer to the Ckong's Lair.
Unfortunately our TomTom send us the wrong way. So, Gyruss guided our PacVan straight into a small forrest road! We phoned Ckong and he told us we were close.
After that, the meeting was on. We were warmly welcomed by Ckong.
We talked, looked, gazed, drank coffee & tea, looked again, gazed again, smiled big time, and were happy to pay Ckong for his work and effort!

After we loaded in the cabinets we drove straight back to Hillywood.

We unloaded the cabs while it was still snowing a bit.

Here is Gyruss his cabinet

And this is Ronald's

Then, it was time to grab something to eat. We went for a DonerKebab close to the Gyruss Lair.

Pretty expensive and long awaiting DonerKebab that was, but hey, who gives a flying..WE GOT A PACMAN!

So, here are some more pics of both the cabinets:

Front view of the Ms. Pacman

Ms Pacman marquee, which is also on the Pacman cabinet.

CPO, not C3PO, that's a whole different roadtrip

sideart of the most favourite cab of women, so I have read on http://www.arcade-museum.com/TOP100.php.
