Galaxian Theater / Re: Galaxian 3 for PlayStation

I added toykyle's info about the debug menu to TCRF (a great website that catalogs unused stuff in games as well as things like debug menus): https://tcrf.net/Galaxian_3_(PlayStation)

I'm not sure what the Tune LVL, Success and Entry options do. I thought Success would affect something related to the Cannon Seed destruction but it doesn't. The Super blaster though is amazing and makes the game a lot easier (almost too easy, I blew up the spark bits in Project Dragoon before the camera began to focus on them)

Japan only for now, but you can make a Japanese PSN account to buy it even on a US/Euro region PS3.

Also tried it. By the way, never came out in Europe, it was a Japan-only title.  Most scenes are in English, excluding the talk scenes, which are in Japanese. It's actually pretty hard. I died on Level 02 of the story mode.
It didn't? Giantbomb has info saying it did, even with PAL boxart:

The only ISO out there though is of the Japanese version.

Galaxian Theater / Star Ixiom
« on: November 25, 2013, 04:44:53 PM »

There hasn't really been a thread on this game, which I think deserves a mention as it is part of the UGSF timeline and contains Galaxian^3 stuff.

Star Ixiom is a PS1 game, it only came out in Japan and Europe (much like G^3's port) and it's a sort of evolution of the old Namco game Star Luster except it involves the whole of UGSF and multiple UGSF "universes", specifically Galaga, Galaxian, Gaplus, Bosconian, Starblade, Star Luster and of course G^3. The Dragoon J2 and Geo Sword are selectable ships and enemies from G^3 and Starblade make appearances alongside old Galaxian/Galaga/Bosconian enemies and battleships. Zolgear even makes an appearance!

This is the intro video, you can see the Geo Sword in action along with the Gaia Ʃ from Star Luster and the Galaxip from Galaxian. The game itself seems to be a bit rough but it has some nifty music (including an orchestral version of the Galaga music!) and the ships are rendered quite nicely.

Galaxian Theater / Re: GT-6/GT-16/GT-28 simulation possible?

You could also find a way to dump models from Star Ixiom, there are a few Starblade and G^3 enemies in there, Dragoon J2 is one of the selectable craft and I believe Zolgear even appears in one mission.

Galaxian Theater / Re: Galaxian3 mod for Homeworld2

It looks like you cannot even download the mod anymore because the site hosting the files is closed.  :?

Gearbox Software recently acquired the rights to Homeworld from the THQ auction (they shut down at the beginning of this year) and I'd love to try this mod whenever they get to releasing Homeworld 2 digitally, but I guess it's faded into the ether unless the dev is working very hard on it (which I can understand, some mods take a very long time)

Galaxian Theater / Re: Starblade for SEGA Mega CD...

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but I found out something interesting. Technosoft (of Thunder Force fame) was outsourced to do the Sega CD port of Starblade via Telenet!  Pretty interesting stuff. I found it out via a tweet from GDRI (Game Developer Research Institute) and the response to it: https://twitter.com/gdri/status/271236022564683776

Galaxian Theater / UGSF has a timeline?
« on: October 22, 2012, 08:46:54 PM »
I was looking at the website that the GH-28 scans were linked from before, and its homepage has a timeline for the UGSF "universe"!

http://ugsf-series.com/

If this timeline is correct, the events of Project Dragoon predate Galaxian and Galaga...and the last part of the timeline is the obscure Namco rail shooter Thunder Ceptor. Ace Combat 3 Electrosphere is also a part of this too. Shame the US version omits all the story though...

One has to wonder if Namco will expand this timeline in the future, maybe with new games?

I noticed something when I played G^3 PSX...you can select AI pilots to compete against for score, and I guess beating one gives access to another. I can't remember their names entirely but in one video I saw there was one named "Shark" and I'm sure Namco probably threw in some Tekken name shoutouts too like Paul or Heihachi...maybe.

Weirder still, you know how you can choose from different laser types? There's a secret "Super" laser that acts like all of them combined and I'm not sure how to access that. Maybe you beat all the AI pilots to get it? There's also a debug mode code too, so maybe it's unlocked there? Mysterious...

That Pac-Man machine looks like the Champion Edition that you can get off XBLA.

Galaxian Theater / Interesting thing about G^3 and Starblade...
« on: February 13, 2012, 11:57:40 PM »
I've looked around on Nicovideo and Pixiv for stuff related to the games, and supposedly the UGSF "saga" continuity branches out to more than just Starblade and Galaxian^3...it's apparently been around since the original Galaxian. Other games that are supposedly part of this continuity include Baraduke, Nebulasray, and Star Luster. I'm guessing the UGSF has multiple factions that each specialize in various areas.

The continuity between the games is furthered by the fact that Star Ixiom on PlayStation has the Gaia from Star Luster and the GeoSword from Starblade in it, and I think Zolgear is an enemy in one mission!

I tried the EU version on ePSXe and it is indeed slow. It was nice hearing the English voices, especially in Gourb (the commander sounds so stern) but the dropped frames made it quite choppy.

I think it could be an autofire circuit or something...

Yay, it's on the fast track to emulation!

Does MAME handle most Laserdisc games well? I know 3D games are pretty demanding when it comes to CPU...
