Technical Area / Defender, no video on screen
« on: June 06, 2017, 06:25:04 PM »
I bought a Defender some time ago which was a DOA.

I have recapped all cards which made the G07 monitor alive again but still nothing on the screen. (I got video on the screen when I tried with another game so I know the monitor is working)

I've done som work with the PCB:s as well:

- Changed to a switched power supply (from arcadeshop), just to get the regular PS out of the equation

- Changed the ROM Board Ribbon Cable (to the one from arcadeshop)

- Changed the 4116 RAMs to 4164, as well as the 4164 adapter from arcadeshop

- Checked all ROM:s (all are OK)

Despite this, the problem is the same as it was before I did all of the above :(

I get raster on my monitor, but it shows nothing. The 4 LEDs on the ROM board are fully lit (no blinking) from the second I start the game.

+5V, -5V and 12V all seem to be ok

------------------------------------------------------------------

So, my question is, could anyone help me where I continue my trouble shooting. I am unfortunately stuck as of now :(

Thank you very much in advance

I can add two photos of the pieces together

Doing sander work in an apartment is pretty far from optimal, but in my case it's the only option apart from taking it outside for every session.

I decided to do the work in the bath room since it's naturally the most bondo dust friendly place. It's not alot of space but what can you do?

After several hours of bondo/sanding/bondo/sanding repeat, it's finally ready for some paint job at least

About that defender, did you cut off the bottom of the cab and put some new wood panel into it?

No, the bottom is original and seems to be fine. It's the lower parts of the sides/back/front that were in bad condition. But not fot much longer  ;)

Cool, sounds fun  :D

Oh, manual sander  :D

Bought a Defender that was completely dead. The monitor now seems to work but the PCB not so much. While waiting for some PCB parts I'm now doing some wood work.

The art work was fortunately in good shape, but the bottom of the cabinet was falling apart in splinters. So now working with bondo and sanding to get this baby in prime shape once again

My favorite among these must be "Frogs". The diorama is so beautiful!

It's original, but the cabinet itself is built here in Gothenburg, Sweden. We have a few more examples of these in Sweden, were all parts are original, but to save on shipping cost, the cabinet itself were built on location.

We ended up having 33 cabinets on the convention. All except two made it through the whole 11 hours & there were people occupying every single machine the whole day.
