if it is not a hurry, i could bring those rams to the eurocade...

i bought some 4164 NOS (>200 pieces i guess) - so i have a lot as spare

i made the hack without a connector by (afair) soldering pin 5 and 6 of the male connector (on the main pcb) together and removing the +12(pin 5) and -5v(pin 9) wire from the female connector

i am not 100% of this - i need to check it...

the 4164 could be plugged into the sockets without bending or wiring any pins.

4116 Rams seems to fail very often.

i recommend a small hack for williams boards to use the 4164 rams - which seems to be much more stable

actually it is very simple hack. look here: http://www.robotron-2084.co.uk/techwilliams4164.html

afaik after changing to 4164 - future ram probs should be solved

(i already did that on my defender)

most of the woodwork i did with a skill saw.

the only routing involved was the 2mm depth 2cm wide frame on top to insert the black plastic bezel for the monitor.

the black plastic bezel must be inserted because the graphic-bezel is lying straight on top the wood.

i made it a bit deeper than 2mm so i could add a dark tinted plexi.

i didn't know that taito built discrete logic games until 79...(on some of the ttls, the production date can be seen)

so i searched for taito ttl found this one:

http://www.citylan.it/wiki/index.php/Zun_Zun_Block_(TTL)

i just checked the lot of switches on the upper pcb :)

AndrĂ©, the question is not when the bar will open - the real question is, when will the bar CLOSE  ;D ;)

i had the similiar issue with asteroids...resetting from time to time...

check if the cpu is a 6502A (asteroids runs on 1,5 mhz)

but the problem that i had was a bad cpu-socket.

i solved the horizontal monitor mounting with some wood-works.

i rebuilt the wooden plate of the original vertical monitor mounting and cut a horizontal hole in it.

Arcade Lifestyle / Re: Galaxian Savekit incl. a Scoretable

Something like that?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GALAXIAN-High-Score-Save-Kit-/281601194272

I wanted to buy one but $45 + $27 shipping is a bit too much for me these days.

yes, something like that, but no nvram. a nvram has the disadvantage that there is a battery inside (the dallas chips are already old, so i do not know how long the battery will last)

i use a serial eerprom.(no batteries anymore). the only limitation on a serial eeprom are about 1 million write cycles.

and there are software dips included. that means there is a menu at startup where you can change your settings.
and all the "standard" routines e.g. free play attract mode...

@andre: i didn't plan a multi kit - only for galaxian and uploading highscores would be there of course

edit: the online option will be ALWAYS available on ALL kits i will do

edit2; okay, except the bumpNJump saveKit (because the code is decrypted and it was a pain in the ass already to decrypt my own code for saving and loading highscores) - maybe someday if there is a loooot of time

OK Guys,

i just want to know (before i do a lot of work for nothing)

is there any interest for a namco (or midway) galaxian highscore save kit including:
* the possibility to enter initials
* a scoretable (maybe 5 scores)
* software dip-settings

mame is always good for memory-maps...

the system1-memory map

https://github.com/mamedev/mame/blob/master/src/mame/drivers/system1.c

starting at line 732

i could give it a try - if it has not to be done until tomorrow ;)

tyrems tempest tube has similiar burns - the good thing is: it can not be seen because of 2 reasons...

there is no light background like on an standard-monitor (e.g. the blue backgroundcolor in qbert)..

and the dark bezel hides a lot as well
