152  General Chat / Dragon's Lair / Space Ace / Is this too much to pay for DL, DL2 and Space Ace? on: April 14, 2007, 10:29:08 AM
I won all three machines!
Now to prepare for my 700km to pick them up! (not to mention being a lot poorer in the end) Sad

He will end the auction early at $3400 for all of them as long as I pay cash when I pickup. It's a seven hour drive and I would need to rent a small truck but it's very tempting. They look to be in nice shape (esp the DL2). The other machines need side vinyl and side art. The seller has done a partial restoration.
Let me know what  you think as I really trust your opinion on these matters.
Thanks,
Alex

154  General Chat / Dragon's Lair / Space Ace / Is this too much to pay for DL, DL2 and Space Ace? on: April 12, 2007, 07:35:19 AM
Hi guys,
I have a chance to get a DL, DL2 and Space Ace for US$3400. They are all in very good shape.
Is this reasonable for all three games or should I keep on looking?
Thanks,
Alex

Thanks Bruno!
I must be blind. I will contact them to try to get the plans. Although with those photos and the measurements from jakobud's wbesite I may be able to wing it myself.

156  General Chat / Dragon's Lair / Space Ace / Dragon's Lair cabinet from scratch? on: April 11, 2007, 06:50:37 PM
Well,
I started the Dragon's Lair from scratch project.
I have decided to do a 2/3 scale model of one for my daughter. It is going to be 4ft tall (1.2m). I have gotten all the wood (3/4" MDF) and have started the cutting. The dimensions are based from cabinet diagrams on the http://www.jakobud.com website. I have printed out the artwork (marquee, side art and CPO) myself on a large HP inkjet printer (for the side art) and on a Xerox color laser (for the marquee and CPO) on heavy stock paper. I will coat this with acrylic before applying. I will order the vinyl and t-molding today. Tough parts I expect will be to curve the plexiglass for the marquee myself (have to study how to do that) and making a control panel out of metal (I have never worked with metal before).
Bruno,
The photos you show of the templates are good. Do you have a photo that shows the smaller pieces on the left?
Thanks,
Alex

158  General Chat / Dragon's Lair / Space Ace / Dragon's Lair cabinet from scratch? on: April 10, 2007, 07:18:04 PM
Hi Bruno,
Thanks for the info. The cutout template is fantastic, too bad the website you got it from no longer exists. I will try to see if I can find any drawings online of this so I can printout myself on a wide format printer/plotter.
The vinyl is perfect, just what is needed.
If you don't mind, can you pass along my email address to your friend who sells the repro stuff?
Thanks again,
Alex

(I would like to document my build on your site too if you don't mind, maybe it can help with anyone else interested in doing the same thing (and help me too with other people's suggestions)).
159  General Chat / All the rest / Hello to everyone! on: April 10, 2007, 07:05:37 PM
Thanks Bruno!
I feel at home here already.
I am reviewing all your restorations and am very impressed.
BTW: Where do you get the black vinyl for the sides of the Space Ace cab?
Thanks,
Alex
160  General Chat / Arcade Lifestyle / 48in1 multi jamma on: April 10, 2007, 02:46:58 PM
Hi Arcadefever,
Is it too late to get in on this? I would love to purchase one of these 48in1 boards for a vertical Jamma cab I am getting.
Thanks,
Alex
161  General Chat / Dragon's Lair / Space Ace / Dragon's Lair cabinet from scratch? on: April 09, 2007, 08:51:03 PM
Hi guys,
One of the things that first brought me to this website was to build my own Dragon's Lair cabinet.
I see that Luca and Mike Ryan have both built one.
I was going to base the construction on diagrams posted at Jakobud's website: (http://www.jakobud.com/)
I have several questions. (please pardon my ignorance in these matters)
Where did you get the plans for the cabinet?
What material was used in the construction (plywood, MDF, particleboard, etc..)?
Where do you obtain the vinyl sheets to cover the cabinet?
Where can you find the Marquee parts (curved plexi, marquee holders)?

(This is a great website!)
Thanks,
Alex
162  General Chat / All the rest / Hello to everyone! on: April 09, 2007, 07:56:16 PM
Hi everyone,
My name is Alex and I live in Long Island, NY, USA.
I started collecting arcade machines in 1997 (and stopped in 1998). I currently have the following:
Mr&Mrs Pacman Pinball
Baby Pacman
PunchOut!
Popeye
Street Fighter 2 (In a converted Jamma cab, with several Jamma boards)
Millipede (cocktail)
I came across this site while doing research for building my own Dragon's Lair cabinet. I actually saw Mike Ryan's posting (who also seems to live in Long Island!, maybe we can meet up one day?) where he built his own cabinet to host a Space Ace.
Once I started reading all the information here I was hooked! This site has some great information and I really love the way that Bruno documents everything he does (I love the game room from the converted garage!).
Anyhow, I hope to be a regular poster here as I re-start my collection of arcade machines and hope to get a Dragon's Lair (1 and 2) as well as Space Ace cabinets.
I look forward to communicating with all of you.
Alex
