Awesome job !
A really well done cabinet, and I certainly couldn't have done it in such a great way !
Only the sight of an expert would catch it isn't a "true" Sidam DL cab.

Congrats to the one who built it for you !!!

It was like I told you during my "beta testing", XAD... Using a Software Corner disc, with both the original 22VP932 laserdisc player or a non-standard, faster player + conversion card (like in your cab), the altered "starting-frame" isn't correct.
Then, you'll have to decrease the target frame by one, so scenes would begin correctly (yeah, when I played this on your cab a few weeks ago during the RetroCampus "Garda Lake"event, I saw scenes that began a bit early so the very last "resurrection" frame is seen at the beginning of that particular scene).

Hi everyone.

Bruno, I'm sorry to be not too much present in your wonderful site/forum as I did before...
Well, I want to share with you all this wonderful experience  :) !

Yesterday, October 23, 2015, meeting with Toru Iwatani at Milan Games Week.
 :pac:   :ghost: :ghost: :ghost: :ghost:

And, OF COURSE, I didn't miss the chance to have his autograph on my MICRO Puck-Man cabinet, which I made in about 2 days just for the occasion  :) !
My daughter now says "Ok, it's MINE !!!"  :D :-* ! She's almost nine years and she's a fan of Pac-Man :) !
No less... one of the few games which has not aged at all after 35 years !

Ok, let's make you see...

First of all, some pics of my Micro-Cab W.I.P.

There's my old Nokia 6630 inside, with its (GREAT !!!) Symbian O.S.(S60), which I did modify in the past (2002) and set it with almost all what I need to :
> play : MAME, AtariVCS/2600 emulator, C=64 emulator, Gameboy, Sega MegaDrive... ScummVM (!!!)  8)
> browse the net : Opera and something else I don't remember... but the thing I remember well is that I had FREE browsing on the internet (and I mean the *real* internet, not that old crappy WAP :-X :o ;D )
> sat nav : TomTom for S60 (hemm... not properly "original"...  ;) ) with bluetooth antenna
... ok, it didn't make me any coffe, but I think it was pretty enough  ;) !

Then, I spent some hour at my PC using my *OLD!* Ulead Photo Express (which I use since when I had Win98... and there was no time for me to learn to use PhotoShop... but, as I already said, it's pretty enough, too  ;D ) to set some artworks which could fit on the micro cab  :) !
Well, I think the result is good... and if not, it's pretty enough  ;D !

(on the right there's wife's wedding shoes box, which I "modified" just to make it perfectly suitable for safely carrying the cab... ;D ;D )

And then... IWATANI !
Here he's at our GamesCollection(.it) stand, the only one where a person could find *REAL* videogames, not all that crappy next-gen of which the "GamesWeek" was full ! (visitor's average age = around 17... and the rest of us, all around 45, are already included in the count...  :'( )

At the conference, in which Toru "made a sprinkling" of what was about the story of his never aged "Pakkuman"

And here it is !!!!!!!!!
Signin' my microcab with gold paint marker (and he didn't used it for no one else than me !!!!!!!!  ;D 8) 8) 8) )
His expression was really "emblematic" at the sight of a Puck-Man cab, even in miniature !
Me : "All handmade and fully playable.. unfortunately the battery is completely discharged"
***(I had to wait 2 hours and half... and Nokia's battery is too aged... it do not resist more than 2 hours of standby " )***
He : "................................................"
ACH ! He don't speak a word in english... ONLY JAPANESE !!!  :'( In fact he always needs an interpreter...
But, hey, he perfectly "got my message" and he was visibly pleased !!!

And... THE PICTURE !
(!!!!!!!!! ... I am 45 and he's 60, but I am more gray than him !!!!!!!!!!!!  :'( :'( :'( but, as Indy said, "It's not the age, it's the MILEage..."  ;) )

After all, we went to eat some pizzas and, of course...

And then .... the evening ended (1:00 am) at Vernimark Arcade ! 8) 8) 8) :) :) :)

Some other pics, made today in my house and with my daughter with her dolls around.......  :o ;D

Hehe... dolls wants to play  ;) !

Dragon's Lair / Space Ace / Re: Mini cabinets
« on: January 03, 2014, 11:11:07 PM »
Thanks, dudes :) !

Sonic : I really loved to "create" those mini-cabinets  :) .
I built them under requests of two friends who saw the "prototype" at a local "retrogaming&retrocomputing expo".
I could say that only with the whole necessary materials the price runs at 400€uros + at least 30/35 hours of work !
Shipping ? Well, I don't know how much could be expensive... cab's weight is around 20Kg and ship it here in Italy could cost between the 15€ ( Italian Postal services = BAD THING... ) and more than 40 € ( express courier = MUCH MORE SAFE ! ) .

BRUNO !!!!
Hehe... the DL2 should be "on the air", but I really could not afford to build things for myself...
€ issues... but I'd really love to do it !!!
Next mini-cabinet would have to be the italian Atari-by-SIDAM Dragon's Lair , for which I have some requests...
Then, just the time to have all the measurements and I'll do it :) !
__________________________

HEMMMM.... BTW: would anyone here like to dismantle his Sidam DL and take all the measures for me ?
I would appreciate...

I've just completed the "THREE-Mini-DL/SA-cabinets" building :) !
Better, OF COURSE, than the "prototype" I built the last summer in occasion of the "DL 30th anniversary italian meeting" ;) !

Meetings, Exhibition, Events... / Italian RetroVideoGaming & Computing
« on: October 26, 2013, 07:57:02 PM »

Autumn !

As always, time for conventions, trade shows and meetings with a currently theme much in vogue among all "ex - nerd" and also many others who have lived (AND STILL LIVE !) the golden age of gaming entertainment, ALL OVER THE WORLD :

the "RETROGAMING" !

And our small and mistreated Italy is no exception...

Last Sunday there was the event "Brusaporto Retrocomputing", annual show / exhibition of vintage computer hardware and gaming, and I was invited to exhibit a bit of my "material" ...

AND SO I DID !

Together with a friend of mine, D.Baldi from a local association called "comPVter" (http://www.compvter.it/), I set up a stand that has been later recognized as "respectable", due to the fact of the presence of some "pearls", not easily viewable "elsewhere" ...

From my side, there is a full-working "Pong" ( Atari - Sears , 1975 ) , an Atari 2600 Jr. CVBS video output modified, my Dragon's Lair MINI-CAB (built this summer in occasion of the "meeting" that I myself organized for the 30th' anniversary of the birth of the most famous lasergame) and a display case containing some of my Atari game cartridges...
On my friend's side there is a DEVASTATING collection of english items, almost all branded " Sinclair ", including a VERY RARE "Sinclair LED BlackWatch" (unfortunately NOT WORKING ... ) and the 80's age style "bicycle-car-starship" "C5" !

THEN...

a beautiful day spent in the company of many friends and MANY people which occasionally asked information of any kind...
to the point that I came home with a dry throat for having talked really too much !  :'( ;D

SOME PHOTOS...

More pics HERE :
https://plus.google.com/photos/111662280458631410454/albums/5937527537449058705?authkey=CNaZh6OhiNvAAg

And it's not over...

Just yesterday there was the first day of the "Games Week" in Milan, where in the morning came no less than
NOLAN BUSHNELL
in person  :o :o :o :o :o

who kept a conference and made a "tour" around all the exposed video entertainment machines !

A friend of mine, journalist in the informatic sector (Carlo Santagostino of "Archeologia Informatica" http://www.archeologiainformatica.it/ ) invited me to the event, but unfortunately, for reasons of work, I had to decline that invitation ...
And my regret is SO HUGE !
 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Especially after that I did watch an unspecified amount of photos that show a lot of friends "embraced" with Nolan...
 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

BUT
for one thing I could say that I am happy !

... because my "Pong", exhibited in one of the windows of the Games Week - Retrogaming museum, had become THIS WAY :

I go to get it back on Sunday (tomorrow)... and , with that autograph of Nolan Bushnell , it will sure become the "pearl" of my small , small Atari collection !

( and if someone would "eventually" steal it, then it will be the time I will call the FBI , the InterPol , the Lieutenant Columbo , Angela Lansbury and Ellery Queen ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! )

Days ago I decided to make my mini-cabinet independent from wife's eeePC.

So I decided to threw a "classic" computer inside the cab.
By chance, I could use my old "Monolith cabinet PC", with a Pentim 4 H.T. 3 Ghz, which was recently replaced by a powerful Intel Core-Duo 2.8Ghzx2 based machine :) !

[ WOW ! Now I got a 100% -STABLE- of speed with Firefox-MAME, while before it arrived at a 80/90% -NOT STABLE- maximum   !!! ]

To complete the job, I took a 9" LCD monitor/TV ( at the beginning I thought to use a 10" CRT, but the tube is too deep and it would have ended up out of the rear panel of the cabinet  :'( ! ) and a pair of "easy" mini-loudspeakers which are powered by the 5V of the USB connector :) !
And, at least, I put a 12V (taken from the computer's PSU) led-strip for the backlited marquee.

Here are some pics:

Hi Bruno !

Yep, someone who was there just posted some more images on our site... I took them and put them here, too :) !

Not much, but I've just translated a forum message from the same guy who made the pics...
:D

"
Hello boys! Here are some considerations...

- in the 1st pic Sandrino observes 'the Master MACDLSA' as he juggles... hemm... the colorful balls (!)

- ... and in the 2nd, after he have finished with the 'big brother', here it is Sandrino with the customized mini-cab, going on for hours and hours !

At the end thanks to:
- MAC for organizing the whole party.
- MAC's wife for the various food.
- Matteo 'Italiandoh' for the valuable info and the fact of not understanding how Sandrino could handle the Sidam to the end with the 'double move' :o !
- Alessandro F. for his 48 years well spent behind a Pengo;
- Lukezab for the bargain which he did by taking the Yaris Japanese import and for the fantastic prosecco wine kindly supplied to us !
- The blonde girl at the pizzeria, sitting behind me, who has made AleF. fool (and not only him...) and the balconette breast of the waitress that came to our table...
- The night spent sleeping in the van and in the Yaris.
- AND ... to Polybius ... :o :o :o
"

Funny, isn't it ? ;) :D !!!

I heard around the World there were some meetings/reunions for the DL's 30th anniversary.
Well, I decided to plan such a meeting here in my little "Mac'sArcade" and...

-cleaned up the garage
-metal shelves covered with blue tarps to make the environment less austere
-some chips
-some popcorn
-beers
-... and few but good nerds fellows  ;) !!!

[ Bruno surely recognizes Matteo/italiandoh... while I am the one on the top/left  :-X  :D ]

I worked 3 days (3 of my August holydays...) to build this little "present" for the anniversary :

It's a MINI Dragon's Lair cabinet, "built around" an Asus eeePC900 (my wife's computer...  ;D :-*), and it's 1 : 2.4 scale ( I have fixed that way to make marquee and CP dimensions compatible with A4 format... for printing artworks by myself !!! ;D ! )

It's running the Sidam romset, according to our italian memories of our "customized" version (I wanted to build a mini-Sidam cab, but I'm still without any kind of project &/or measurements...).

A clip  ;) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLeKV99FcLM&feature=share&list=UUhqt2ze5DGeZRn2ruRLhoCw
