Galaxian Theater / New GT-6 footage @ London Trocadero

Some footage of the Galaxian 3 Theatre that was at the London Trocadero's Funland arcade has been uncovered, 8:30 in this video onwards:

Galaxian Theater / New GT-6 successor?
« on: May 19, 2018, 12:09:56 AM »
Well... it was announced today that there would be a Halo arcade game made. Not only is it odd that Halo is getting an arcade game, it shares some similarities to Galaxian 3 Theatres  :o

While it's not 6 players, and the overall design is nothing like GT-6, it's still got 4 gun yoke controllers, and 2 screens- a very rare sight in today's arcades. The gameplay looks to be somewhat of a hybrid of Air Raid and Galaxian 3? It's got some elements of G3 (the opening cutscene!) but it looks like at some points it will be just a shooting gallery...

And speaking of Air Raid, this could potentially be replacing it at Dave and Busters!

Thoughts on this everyone?

Namco's other massive simulator of the 90's, this thing is basically a Galaxian 3 Theatre stripped out and redressed with a REAL Mazda MX-5 car and the Ridge Racer game thrown in.
The car is actually a Eunos Roadster, the Japanese version of the Mazda MX-5/Miata.

Seriously, I can't find anything about another in operation or in storage right now. But overall I'm extremely happy I got to experience this before it gets lost to time  :)
I got to play one in worse condition. It was impressive.
It's apparently now in storage according to this: http://www.jammaplus.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=86398&PID=764155&title=first-visit-to-a-proper-arcade-in-17-years#764155
Ah! That's slipped my mind, I posted in that thread and forgot about it- but I'm not sure they have the whole machine. This blog states some parts were scrapped and others were put into storage, and it's from 2014 so I assumed they'd scrapped the rest by this point too:

Either way would be nice to see what they have of it.

I've got some more pictures of the games Blackpool had- Like an Initial D 3 Cycraft and a pretty unique 2 player After Burner Climax if anyone wants to see them...

Been a while since I was last on here but thought I should share this with you guys. I was on holiday in Blackpool recently- at one point this place had more rare games than you could count- R360's, Galaxian 3 Theatre's, Virtua Formula, Sega Taikans... you name it. Sadly all the arcades are dedicated to redemption now, with only a few modern games (OutRun 2 SP SDLX, Star Wars Battle Pod) remaining, and are not maintained very well. Yet there is one place that holds the last remnant of Blackpool's glory days, it's battered, bruised, and seen better days, but impressively still in operation after almost 25 years.

RIDGE RACER FULL SCALE!!!

In the 'Bowl-A-Drome' arcade, one of 4 in the Pleasure Beach theme park, lies possibly the very last Ridge Racer Full Scale in operation today. Namco's other massive simulator of the 90's, this thing is basically a Galaxian 3 Theatre stripped out and redressed with a REAL Mazda MX-5 car and the Ridge Racer game thrown in. It's not for certain, but this might be the most expensive arcade game available to any venue ever!

Of course, the original Sony projectors are no longer being used... Pleasure Beach have replaced them with some Epson projectors which are ok. They go through a new bulb in just a few months so they have to replace them pretty often. To say it's a very old game, that's dedication!

The Mazda MX-5 car... it's definitley seen better days. The original seats, steering wheel and car stereo have been taken out. The wheel and seats are now the normal Namco ones seen in their other racing games from that era and the stereo is just gone... this means you can't choose music, you can only listen to the original Ridge Racer theme, no Rare Hero, no Rhythm Shift, no Rotterdam Nation... the gear shifter and speedometers are also no longer working, making manual driving impossible, and the windscreen was also taken out last year as it was supposedly cracked. But everything else is working, even the car's air blowers, and Pleasure Beach seem to keep the car cleaner than other arcades that had it....

And here's me playing it. I'm not the best at Ridge Racer, I like Sega's racers more- but at least I managed to finish the race!

Unless someone has enough money and wants to deal with the theme park, (could be very hard) this will most likely be scrapped, which is a damn shame. Seriously, I can't find anything about another in operation or in storage right now. But overall I'm extremely happy I got to experience this before it gets lost to time  :)

Well over the past weeks me and Sara have tried a lot of stuff to try and save the very last Galaxian 3 in the USA... she's contacted Namco and got a reply! They are looking for the documents needed to fix the Galaxian 3, hopefuly they still have them! If they don't, possibly no-one else does  :-\

We've also been looking into the Dave And Busters side of things to see if any of the locations have left over spares from the GT-6 to Air Raid conversions, haven't gotten far with this though but it could also work, who knows what they still have in their back rooms...

And speaking of Air Raid, I have been researching more about that, I found an old link to Tsunami's website which I had to go through the internet archive to access and... no mention of the Air Raid to Galaxian 3 conversions whatsoever!

Tsunami seem to have gone out of business around 2011 after some sort of a merger with Global V.R... and still absolutely no word on how the conversions came about... the only link to Namco I saw was a partnership they made in 2001 with their European branch.

But... we have got a few people to contact from their website if absolutely nothing else works. Surely they had the entire details of the theaters (including the schematics) if they were allowed to convert the theaters to Air Raid!

2 seats are working just no sound but the 4 are not working. There are 3 boards 1 for each pair of seats the problem is in these boards because if we move the working board to the other pairs of seats they work. We have changed 2 chips on a non working board and that did not help.  We do not have the schematic for this board (I call them IO boards but that is not the correct term).  Do you know anyone that has the schematic?

Right, got a reply. @DarthNuno we need your help on this one  :-\

Just been trawling through the old trocadero website on the internet archive and found this awesome image... With the Virtuality, Galaxy Force 2, AND R360!
(Still no GT-6 though  :-[ )

I have also revised the blog post a little. Take a look back, I have found some more pics, fixed some grammar errors + inaccuracies and of course another video thanks to Level42.

Arcade Lifestyle / National Videogame Arcade, Nottingham
« on: July 24, 2017, 02:08:48 AM »
The nearest place to me where I can get some classic arcade gaming kicks is The National Videogame Arcade. While not fully focused on arcade games (most of the venue is a museum with consoles to play) there are still some good pieces here so I thought I'd drop some pictures here :)

The

Also one more thing: some readers here may know the NVA didn't have the best of openings. All the place really had was a bunch of console set ups, a weird bucking bronco thing, and some poor condition cabs, and it sadly had to call in an insolvency firm less than a year after it opened due to bad visitor numbers. However last year it was saved from closing by some gaming industry members, and it has gotten so much better since. More support on this place would be fantastic, as even though it's good right now, it has amazing potential.

Right I got a reply back from Funworld again- thankfully it's only been a day or two between them replying to me. Apparently the guy they sent over to fix it diagnosed the main problem being something with the game boards- not sure if he just skimmed over the thing and just said it was that, but DarthNuno can you provide any advice on these?

(also, I'm sorry I haven't sent any pics of this GT-6 yet, my friend who lives nearer to there did try to get some pictures but apparently someone had a problem with it? which is weird considering John got that entire video there. would be appreciated if anyone else managed to get some pictures of it.)

They've replied to my message!

I would post a screenshot but I have absolutely no idea how to post them on here. Anyway this is what they said:

I have someone coming to work on it tomorrow to see if they can get it running again.

Hmmm... will message them tomorrow to see if it is fixed.
