'Business' Area : Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB : Harness for Sega Vic /Dual
« on: January 14, 2018, 08:06:34 AM »
I recently managed to get a bunch of Sega Vic Dual PCB's and wanted to test them.
I know many people have converted their Sega cocktail to Jamma so if you have the original harness somewhere...
:)

Not publicizing this but I backed thru Kickstarter long ago.
Now played the game and if you're a Maniac Mansion fan, if you know who Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick are, it's definitely for you.
It's out for 20 USD I think... and as a bonus, it even has my recorder message, reference in Ransome's insult book and Voodoo recipe book (for love potions and hangover cure!!!)

Technical Area / Canyon Bomber pcb troubleshooting
« on: March 29, 2017, 11:13:01 PM »
Guys,

I have had this Atari Europe Canyon Bomber pcb in my basement for over a year now.
I decided this week-end to see if I could try to power it up and do something about it.
I made a quick harness and fired it up with a 12V 2A PSU.
Screen is a little garbled but I see the dirigibles and the planes as well as the bottom balls with numbers filling the canyon.
When I test I only get 4.6VDC on IC's the farthest from the LM323 voltage regulator.

Question 1 : Should I upgrade to a 3A PSU?

Question 2 : LM323 seems to do its work but the bypass wirewound resistor gets very hot (the long black one on top right corner of the PCB pic close tho the voltage regulator and its big heat sink). Is this normal? Can I just remove the LM323 and resistor and use a 5VDC 3A PSU that I have somewhere ? Or even feed the board as is with my 5VDC ?

Launching some bottles in the ocean / sending my Xmas wish list...

I would be delighted if someone had and would be OK to part with (and sell me) one of the following parts:

1. Nintendo Radarscope (upright) marquee
2. Nintendo Radarscope (upright) bezel
3. Nintendo Space Fever / Launcher PCB
4. Atari Pin Pong Control Panel
5. Atari Pin Pong bezel
6. Atari Shark Jaws PCB
7. Atari Pong Control Panel (if you don't ask this kinda thing on a Xmas wish list, you never ask...)
8. Any interesting/uncommon TTL-only PCB...

I will obviously consider all offers, eve for incomplete/damaged items.
Please PM me.

Arcade Lifestyle / Nintendo TSC cocktail : which game?
« on: July 26, 2016, 11:43:49 AM »
(also posted on KLOV)

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=338364&page=2

Just got a TSC (TSC-GM) cocktail cab that really, really looks like a Nintendo.
But no Nintendo markings anywhere : neither on the serial plate nor on the Control Panels... and unfortunately no PCB but an edge connector.
Has the original Nintendo wiring bee hacked?
There is also a Galaxian instruction sheet (in German) under the glass.

When I look at the manual from the KLOV thread , I have the exact table pictured on the schematics.
Also, I see dipswitches that are similar to the "classical" Galaxian.
And the schematics of the 2 PCBS & rom board when put side by side also look like a Galaxian...
as well as some refernces on the wiring schematics such 41, 42, 44 which lead me to believe the 44-pin edge connector may be original after all

So dropping an unconventionnal and possibly stupid idea : could that be a Galaxian-in-a-Nintendo cab i.e. some sort of collaboration between Namco and Nintendo?
Or Namco using Nintendo cocktail production lines to issue a few Galaxian cocktails?

Ever heard of something similar?
Could some enlighten me?

NB : the seller just told me he bought it in Germany and it comes from a whorehouse. :) :) :)

Guys,

I got this rare bird from Ully end of last year.
It went to my storage place and although Ully had done the sourcing of most of the parts, it still needed a wiring harness and a marquee.
End of last year, I managed to make a repro marquee with Etienne's vector file and a piece of plexi.

This week-end, I managed to continue the reviving process.
Thanks to Alex/Chuckie Egg for some wiring and these black Ninty connectors parts...

First check of voltages on the transformer screw terminal
-4.89V
+11.78V
+5.11 V
for the terminals I need.
OK not too bad.

Ully had told me the PCB was working o I was not too afraid when powering the machine up after wiring up the PCB.
Note the unconventinal connection to the (german) transformer.
Although it is original for this machine, it is not a genuine Nintendo part.

First power up -> tadaa blue screen.
Arghh!!!
Then fiddling up with the screen controls -> tadaa bluish screen with some markings. So we're making progress but text is upside down.
Hair pulling sequence then Internet browsing -> tadaa !!! Found a webpage where Bob Roberts explains how to "play" with the yoke plug on the monitor board.
Surprise, my yoke had already been played with by a previous owner so back into original position -> screen is now reverted to correct position.

Then off we go with trying to get some sound.
The sound board looks hacked and is bypassed -> hop a domino for reinstating the speaker connections (light blue circle in the pic)
Then a very bad looking connection for the PCB connection(red circle). I'm too eager to get some good sound...
Quick test, sound is working -> Good!!!

Next surprise, it's a Gremlin rom -> if someone knows which EPROM has the Nintendo copyright and/or has a set of Ninty roms I may be interested.
Also game coins up and plays OK -> Controls  and microswitches are good.

Then THE issue : my screen still has this bluish tint : no way to get some black background and the correct colors.
Tried all the combinations on the R, G & B signals and on the numerous pots and the monitor (a Sanyo in a box, by the way, maybe a 20-DZC?)
But I cannot manage proper colors!!!!

Does any of you have a clue?

I am wondering if the monitor has not been tampered more than just the yoke connections...
There is no specific inverter board but on these early Sanyo-Ninty they're sort of "included" in the monitor board no?
How could I check?

Arcade Lifestyle / Nintendo Space Launcher upright?
« on: February 22, 2016, 09:33:44 PM »
I recently bought this bezel on LBC along with a Sheriff upright bezel, just for the sake of collecting.
Out of curiosity, does anyone know of an upright Nintendo Space Launcher?
I could find no picture on Internet besides on a 1980 Nintendo leaflet.

Thanks to Ully, I now have a nearly complete Space Firebird cabinet.  ;D

I just need a wiring harness.

I was going to buy all these small black early-type Nintendo connectors from Mikesarcade and build it myself but I wanted first to make sure that there was not someone here who had a SF harness sitting in a box and/or gathering dust on a shelf.

If you have one and are willing to part with it, please contact me, you'll make an happy guy :)

Arcade Lifestyle / Midway Galaxian No 106!!! You are now mine!!!
« on: June 02, 2015, 10:33:59 PM »
Guys,

Thanks to neocps1 from this forum, I am now the proud owner of Galaxian No 106.
An early machine if I'm not mistaken, fitted with this weird black textured T molding...
It's in good working order and from what I understood only the monitor has been changed and the control panel has been modified (why this green second fire button?).

Besides all that,  I have noticed that the side arts seem a little different from the usual one.
The bottom part of the Galaxian text is blue not white; I have seen this feature only on an old German ad...
Can anyone shed some light for me on this particularity please?

:)

'Business' Area : Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB : Galaxian cab
« on: March 30, 2015, 11:53:57 PM »
Hi guys,

I'm a newbie here so maybe I should go for a little explanation.
I have been living abroad in Africa & Asia for quite some years for work.
Now I have managed to get back to France and since I've more or less settled in Paris suburbs for a few years I had mind to start collecting good old 80's arcade machines like the ones I was playing when I was a kid.

I know it may seem preposterous to some of you guys who have been collecting cabs and posting on this forum for years (since I still really have not much space, I can only currently accomodate for one cab) but I wanted to know if anyone here was willing to part with an original Galaxian cab, be it a Midway, a Bertolino or the famed Namco one (I may be dreaming a little bit too much here...). I would pay a fair price and I can assure you it would be well cared for.  :)

I understand Galaxians do not come too often on auction sites etc... especially in Europe.  ???
So I was willing to try my luck with you guys.
