Technical Area / Data East Hybrid RCDM_I107
« on: October 24, 2018, 01:45:53 PM »
Hybrid RCDM-I107 reverse engineered

for example with Caveman Ninja, Data East created a PCB filled up with custom ICs and funny ceramic hybride circuits...
If you connect the JAMMA the wrong way, at least one RCDM_I107 gets fried by the 12V audio supply voltage.
If you are unlucky, your custom 104 gets killed, too. You can rename it to 404 - function not found... ;D

I was curious, what's inside a I107 and how it can be replaced.

Does anybody know this unknown discrete Arcade PCB?

It seems to be from Video Games Lich and might be some Pong Clone...

Any Hints are very welcome. Thanks.

Technical Area / ROM-Wizard new Version
« on: July 08, 2015, 11:18:20 AM »
Hi folks,

I'd like to announce my latest version of ROM-Wizard: V.1.20.

Download is available under http://www.wolfgangrobel.de/romwizard.htm

Language is still german only, but I'm currently working on an English version due to a lot of requests.

Some corrections / improvements have been done on the update:

New: ROM split function - 2 times 1/2, 4 times 1/4, High / Low Byte separation, Nibble Filler (converts XYh to 0Xh plus 0Yh for certain bipolar prom programmers)

Improved: ROM Merge - bug removed when starting merge a second time...

You'll find the merge and split utility among others under "Tools".

To load a binary file just right click on the eprom and choose "ROM laden"
To save a binary file just right click and choose "ROM speichern"

Have fun!
Wolfgang

Technical Area / EPROM overview

Also updated: http://www.wolfgangrobel.de/electronics/eproms.htm

A list of most common and some very unusual types of EPROMs, all with links to their data sheets.

There are pinning overviews available, for both, 8-bit and 16-bit types.

There are also informations about mask programmable ROMs, those might be helpful if you plan to do some conversions...

Here is my updated overview on bipolar PROM datasheets. Perhaps it is helpful for you.

By the way, if you need some PROMs burned, I might help you. Either in burning PROMs or in NOS proms...

Well, have you ever asked yourself, what the heck is the difference between bootlegs, originals, conversions, technically?

I found the ultimate answer.

It's like masturbation - everybody does it but nobody talks about it.

I'm talking about Neo Geo MVS Cart Conversions, you might like it or not, but here you can find some useful information on that topic:

http://www.wolfgangrobel.de/arcadereps3/mvs.htm

http://www.wolfgangrobel.de/arcadereps2/neogeo.htm

Perhaps it is useful for somebody...

Technical Area / High Resolution Arcade PCB Pictures
« on: October 08, 2014, 01:00:20 PM »
Well, you all might know the problem, you're not totally sure if the socket on your rusty dusty dirty pcb whore was originally populated with some useful circuitry or not...

You might see it on a photgraph but most pictures on the internet are of very poor resolution...

There for I created a collection of hi rez PCB pictures on my website. No problem if you're not so much into German... it's only pictures and game titles...

You can find it here: http://www.wolfgangrobel.de/arcadetalk/pcbgalerie.htm

Just click on the picture you want, and it opens in another tab. Minimun resolution is 2400 pixel width normally.

All the rest / My Name is Mike and I'm addicted to Arcade... --- Hi Mike!
« on: September 17, 2014, 01:23:27 PM »
Well, hi Guys, nearly 'nuff said...

 ;)

O.K., I'm located in Germany, the only machine I own is a Carnival wall mounted --> http://www.wolfgangrobel.de/arcadereps2/carnival.htm

I am one of the poor souls that spend their lifetime to repair other guy's defective PCBs for small money... Take the advice of an elder one: never start this service...

I'm 47 years young and development engineer for electronics.

Feel free to have a look on my website: http://www.wolfgangrobel.de/
Be aware that it is in German only.

And I will never tell you my real name.

Ooops...
