I think it would be cool to have a high score section on the forum, so everybody could post their highscores for each particular game. I don't think we would need verification and such because I think we have an honest group here ;).

Of course it's up to the admin who decides what he does with these results ;). I would just like to know if there are more people like me who would like a seperate section for highscores. :pac: :ghost:

'Business' Area : Buy/Sell/Trade / Wanted: AMP connector
« on: January 28, 2010, 02:31:51 PM »
Because the wiring of the trackball control panel has been hacked I am now looking for a 26 pin AMP connector (according to the manual) to connect the trackballs to the interface pcb on my segasonic.

This is the connector on the interface board, so I need a connector to plug into this:

After looking around a bit I found some connectors but they were all like computer connectors with ribbon cables (like the HDD or FDD cables). The type I'm looking for is with 'normal' wires onto it and suitable to lock with those clips as shown on the picture.

Is it possible to order directly from Suzo as a private person (as in: no VAT number)?
If so, which branch can you recommend me: UK or NL ?

Galaxian Theater / Galaxian 3 for PlayStation
« on: January 20, 2010, 05:52:15 PM »
I have FINALLY bought this game for PS1. It's the Japanese version because it's native 60hz and it's dirt cheap too :)

One word: WOW! :o

This game is really cool, everything just seems right, the intro, music, sounds,.... You can see it's the original LaserDiscs that are converted to PS1, the seam between the two projectors is still there! The only downside is I don't have the official PS1 analog joystick, so I have to play with either the D-pad or mouse :(.

I played it a bit on my Panasonic lcd projector with a big screen like it should be! 8)

Now I really can't wait to experience the real game!!

I made a small video with my ixus i5 camera, so the video quality isn't that great

So, how much is it worth? Just the pcb with the grey case, no arts or marquee,... included.

There is one with art and marquee for sale at arcadiabay.de. I've read it's not a cheap game, but 399€ seems pretty steep...

EDIT: Updated from 'Price Check' 'Wanted'

Arcade Lifestyle / Guerrilla War (arcade cab) in Europe
« on: January 16, 2010, 01:47:32 PM »
I love these SNK rotary joystick games, and I would love to have a dedicated Guerrilla War cabinet sometime. I was wondering if there was a dedicated Guerrilla War cab in Europe? Or an Ikari Warriors?

I have the flyers for Guerrilla War & Ikari but they are US flyers, I noticed both cabs are the same there (except for art of course).

Guerrilla War is my favorite so I would love to have a dedicated cab for this. I already own the pcb and a couple NOS SNK LS-30 rotary sticks (bought them when they could still be found for a reasonable price).

Technical Area / SegaSonic The Hedgehog suicide chip & battery
« on: January 12, 2010, 04:01:02 PM »
Hi all,

As some of you know I acquired a SegaSonic The Hedgehog pcb some time ago. The pcb I have is the final revision and has a protection module (suicide). The module looks like this:

As you can see, it will be a bitch to replace that battery. 1 fraction of a second without power and it's dead!

Since System 32 games are emulated in MAME the protection module is probably also built into the engine. So I guess it's possible to decrypt the roms to let the pcb operate without the protection module.

Is there anyone who knows someone who may be able to decrypt these roms, or what procedure I should follow to do this myself maybe?

The game is from 1992-93 so that battery could die any moment I think.... :( Of course I will try to replace the battery first with a helper battery, but this will be VERY hard to accomplish. So it would be great to know if it's possible to run this game without the worry of a battery that may be dying any minute.

If anyone has a spare Capcom CPS2 CPU board (Japan region) please let me know. I need a new one for my Progear, my current A board is broken :(.

Technical Area / Flyback transformer
« on: December 26, 2009, 01:49:31 AM »
I have ordered new caps for both my Wells Gardner 20K7201 monitors a few days ago (Sagaia cab). I was reading about the WG K7000 series on KLOV and there was a post about the flybacks, apparently the flybacks with white screen & focus knobs are the 'old' ones and are very prone to failure (I have this type). The recommendation was to replace this type whether it was working or not. What are your opinions on this?

Before I pulled the chassis I had noticed that 1 screen sometimes went off for 1-2 seconds and turned back on now and then. Could this be the flyback starting to fail?

For the replacement, where do you buy these things in Europe? I found this 'HR' brand via Starcab, but Starcab only has flybacks for Hantarex chassis. So I went to HR website directly and entered the part number from the WG service manual (from the WG website). Result was this: http://www.hrshop.es/index.php?command=search&by=tvmonitor&q=053X0528&x=0&y=0

Does anyone have experience with this brand flyback? Or can you recommend me another reputable brand?

I am looking for a coin entry module for my Sagaia cab, there is only a return cup, no coin entry or mechanism.

It's this EXACT type of entry module I'm looking for (the circled part)

My door looks like this now

If anyone has one of these please let me know :-* It doesn't necessarily have to be 20FR, only the model (shape) has to be right.

Also, if anyone has coin mechanisms that work with Belgian Francs I'm interested in those as well ;)

Arcade Lifestyle / Restoration - SAGAIA
« on: December 21, 2009, 02:42:46 PM »
After the almost-failed roadtrip (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=1193.0) comes the cleaning up and restoration of the Sagaia cabinet. This is my first cabinet ever, so forgive me if there are a lot of questions which are obvious to you guys, but they aren't to me ;)

First, let's get rid of that MDF plate in the front and see what huge/small hole/damage is underneath

Probably a security bar was once mounted there, which isn't removed very carefully... :( Hmmmm, I've currently got no idea how to restore the artwork. I will tape off the good artwork, and fill up the hole with that wood filler like I've seen on a restoration on this forum.

Next inspection, coin door

As you can see, there are rust bubbles under the paint (sanding and repainting). Coin entry, mechanism and lock are missing. The lock from the door under is also missing.
I checked out this site to buy new locks, but there are different sizes available: 17, 23 & 28. The rear plate lock I had to drill open is 23mm. What is the standard size of a coin door lock, or how do I measure which one I need? For the coin mechanism and entry, is this a standard size, and where do I find it? I can find the mechanisms for each currency everywhere, but not the entry module...

Let's unscrew the rear monitor plate

Here's one monitor, a Wells Gardner (K7000?). You can also see the half mirror from here, altough it doesn't look like a window or mirror with all that dust on it :).

Look, the serial number sticker is still present :)

After drilling open the back door lock, we find this:

A ballpoint pen, a spare "Mister Ed" sticker, a keyhanger,... ;D
I noticed earlier that the service switch was missing, now here it is! It's hanging between the power supply cables on the right side (with the red wire). There is a paper stapled on the inside of the backdoor reading 'KINEPOLIS BXL'. So if anyone's ever seen a Sagaia at Kinepolis Brussels back in the day, this is the one!

Here's the pcb

Looks very clean for it's age :) And it's still working perfectly 8)

After removing the front glass and half mirror, we see the front of the first monitor

As you can see, a ton of dust and lots of screen burn. Although the camera makes it look even more worse than it is :D.

The horizontal monitor used to be here (sorry, forgot to take picture when it was still in), the vertical monitor is already removed too.

Here is the control panel and instructions cleaned up.

I still need something stronger to clean the edge of the cp, I didn't get that black stuff off. I'm going to remove the joysticks and buttons too to give them a good clean.

Here's supposed to be a picture of the cab cleaned up with the mirror and the glass all shiny, but the battery of my camera died. :(

To be continued...

Technical Area / One side of monitor is very dark, capkit?
« on: December 21, 2009, 01:22:25 PM »
When you look at the video I posted here: https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=1193.msg11273#msg11273
you can see that the left side of the second monitor is very dark, you can barely see the TO from TAITO. Would a capkit solve this problem, or is the monitor just to far. It has a good burn in of the high scores and 1P, 2P & Zone "A". But it doesn't disturb because the burned letters never dissappear in-game.
