Title: Pinges Basement, Workshop and random junk
Post by: Pinge on January 10, 2017, 10:52:29 PM
Ok, I keep spamming this forum.

History:
I have always wanted my own gameroom, and fortunatley we live in a quite big apartment so I had a nice gameroom a handfull of years back.
In that room i had 4 pinballs, four or five arcadegames. I loved that room, red floor and black walls... had some good times there.

But all of a sudden we had two kids, and kids need a room full of lego, dolls, beds and such boring things. And I had to let it go.
Or not really, my wife is quite understanding sometimes and I got another way smaller room with a fucked up layout. So I ended up selling all my pins and put a good few of the videogames in storage.
Over time I have got a lot of more games, a few of them living temporarly in our livingroom.

But to make a long story short, recently a room in the basement of the very same house we live in got available due to a couple of reasons, I was lucky to end up with it in the end.
I can walk down in my underwear if I want to, its like 5 meters from our frontdoor to the door into the basement.

I have spent some nights down there, removing alot of shelfes, sanding, painting and of course cleaned decades of dust and such. New lighting and some outlets are installed aswell.
And literally just a few minutes ago I decided that I am done for now. Left to do is maybe to paint the door... probably wont happen.

Here are some random photos, I hope you can figure out which are before and after my touch to it.
Hopefully I can update this thread in the near future when the room actually becomes a room with games in it instead of just a room.

It's looking very good after the paint job!
Will you bring all the games that you have in the house down there?

Looking good! Get those cabs in there! :D

Thanks guys!

I will bring most of my games from the apartment down there, Maybe keep two in the old gameroom that will work as a dedicated workshop from now on!  ;D
I have one rule, that I probably end up breaking... NO PROJECTS IN THE BASEMENT!

I have more games that fits in the basement "sadly", alot of them in the warehouse you have seen pictures from.
My idea is to bring one game home at a time and get it ready in the workshop and then carried down.

First game to get down there will be Atari Badlands, It stands a bit in the way in one of our hallways!

seems like a nice space you have down there. how many games can you fit in?

oh, and always go in there naked - or at least leave your shoes on the doormat ;D

Yeah, for the first time I actually got a feeling that this will be up and running sometime in the future.
Unbeatable location cause it is literally at home, and the rent is cheap

nothing beats a gameroom in your house, no matter how small it is!!!

Good decision, beer is more important than light  ;D
Nice gameroom, indeed!!

I would buy a 5m LED-strip. They can be cut and connected by soldering two wires to each connector at each end. Then place them on top of the beam.

This should be enough to light the entire room. Use one with remote control so you can dim the light if necessary or change the colour to blue if you're drunk  ;D

I ordered a 5M RGB-strip from china a while back, still waiting for it to arrive...I will try with that. Thanks for the input..

And yes, I will be drunk down there, and so should you guys when Im finished...

Wohoo, another game room on the way. Nothing beats a white canvas, it´s so much easier to add colors later, if that´s what you prefer!
Looking forward to more updates! :spaceace:

OK!
So I thought I might aswell share a few pictures from my present gameroom/storage in our apartment, a few of the games are moved to the basement!
This room is under construction, so sorry for the mess.

As you can see in one picture there is some wall/floorfixing involved in this process, this is beacuse I scraped three closets that took to many precious square meters.
The plan is to use this as a workshop, so i can work with the games there before they are basement ready.
The workbench I just got, costed me like 20€  , I have one more that I plan to place next to this one eventually, then i might get a more permanet setup to learn how to actually fix something :D

Ok, so most of the walls and the roof is painted, still have to get someone to fix the not finished wall.

Got my workbenches and some shelfes up anyways, and i have actuallt already spent a couple of nights here testing PCB:s and monitors  :)

This is a nice looking workspace.

I have a small room where I placed some of my cabs in and I know troubles about renovating rooms ( for example, my wall paint was called loam paint = you have to wash (( and  I mean wash with a rag )) the whole walls or new paint wont stick on it ).

So good job!

I have worked a little every night here now, love to have a dedicated place to be eventhough i get fuck-all out of my hands.

But I have tested a few monitors with mixed results and are eager to keep up the pace anyways.
Prepare for alot of quiestions about oddball monitors and bootleg pcb:s in the near future.

OK, so here it is....
I made a short video about two weeks ago... and then I watched it and felt redicilously stupid... why?
Cause I (try to) talk english so you guys here on DLF should understand....

But what the heck, you can have the link...

And It happend a bit more since then but nothing really worth sharing at the moment.... i spend some time in the workshop try to learn how to fix things anyways... and I really really enjoy the late nights down there alone with the radio on to keep me company...

Can only agree with slowcade, your english is very good, continue making videos please  ;D

By the way, since I have that missile command project too, I realized that on your cab, the stickers on the backglass are missing. You can order them very cheap here: http://www.gamestencils.com/misc-game-art/missile-command-bezel-text

Thanks, might do another soon, especially since I now have som working games down there.... to bad I forgot my stepdown in Gothenburgh so i cant play DK or Ms Pac at the moment

And in the workshop there is only two games left to work on... PunchOut/Pc10 and Pac man (Pac is not mine but I have started to work on it and are waiting for caps and some other parts for the monitor)

Ok, so the basement were in a total mess after moving cabinet around and had some on Retrospelmässan in Gothenburg... so last weekend Kralleman and Roger helped me out and moved things around... sp now it is better and I can overview what i have to do and what I can bring home from the warehouse...
No major projects in the basement... just putting things back like monitors, bezels, controlpanels and such.... i will star doing that tonight and then I will work on them one at the time... a few are ready, some need cap kits and minor parts... but It is on the way to be a hangout... I actually played some games there a  few nights ago, on my own in the darkness... I had a blast..  ;D

If I put in some hours during the next week I will give you a video update.

Thanks. As soon as the games are running I start with decoration, might have to rebuild a shelf to store pcbs and monitors to

Badlands now has a marquee and is up and running, tonight I start with putting things together on. PC-10 or Punchout

coming together nicely. have you tried forming an aisle of cabs in the middle so that you can walk around all of them?

oh, and one more thing: would you mind turning the phone 90° to the left or right the next time? vertical videos are a no-go ...

Haha,  ok... Next time
The room is to narrow to be able to walk around the games without The sacrifice in number of games

Nice gameroom Pinge!

For my small new gameroom, I took a room scematic, calculated 70x70 for each cab and then tried how to get  the maximum of games into it. I have only about 60cm walkway between 2 cab rows, but it should be fine for 1 person ( since I store pcb´s, arcade items on the roof in the future )

that's about what i did, but i took the exact dimensions of the cabs (width x depth) and resized them to have the same ratio as the floor plan. my walkways are roughly 70 centimeters by the way. if i moved the cabs closer i could squeeze in a few more, but then it would be too narrow and just not look good. this is an arcade room after all, not a storage  ;)

I have tried about everything, there is a problem with that the walls are not angled 90 degrees towards eachoter on more than one corner... no matter how I do It looks wierd...
But I will certainly try more next time my comprades are here.

70 cm between two rows of cabinets feels very tight? Do you mean between wall and control panel or between two games (control panel to control panel)?? 70 cm CP to CP is way to little to be able to play both games att the same time, especially if I invite really fat people  ;D

do you have a (rough) sketch of the room (top-down view) with dimensions? perhaps someone else has a great idea ...

agreed! between two games simply is not enough. for me it's 70 cm between the games and the wall! and i do have a large group of games in the middle.
