Title: Tehkan Phoenix monitor glass scan available
Post by: PaulSwan on July 21, 2015, 06:12:13 PM
Hi,

36Mb including a couple of photos to illustrate that it's brighter than the scan looks. The instruction card is heavily faded :|

Always Great to see rare artwork saved.....but what is "Pac Man" doing there on The bottom right....and is that Dick Dastardly ( http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/scratchpad/images/b/b0/DickDastardly.png/revision/latest?cb=20121101130532 ) on the bottom left ? Weird for a Phoenix ;);)

Hehe, yeah, I think they just used a sort of generic artwork of the time for it, though it is all one piece and thus Phoenix dedicated by virtue of the control panel config. It's likely this cab was manufactured by the same entity that manufactured the near-identical Japanese Namco cabs.
The Dick Dastardly corner is taken from Namco Rally-X maybe?

Ooo, nice, there is a guy on UKVAC who was the one who asked for the scan so that he could restore a converted machine with a repro bezel. I might piggy back on that to put a new one on mine since it's all cracked & burnt.

Can you do anything with the instruction card? The covered un-faded parts looks as if it's coloured similarly to the bezel with red & yellow but a lot of it I can't make out what the colours might have been :(

Paul.

Totally awesome work !!

May I ask how the scanning was done....I understand from Etienne that he had big trouble scanning the Namco Galaxian (sorry for mentioning that cab again guys....really !) bezel because the artwork is on "the other side" of the plexi.....

I think thats a problem with my model scanner, i have it on all bezels where the scanning needs to be done through the glass / plexi.

it has to do with the extra distance from the art to the surface of the scanner.
straight scanning is no problem whatsoever.

i guess he has another brand / model than i have

Xerox WorkCenter colour copier, scanner, printer etc. at work.
I forgot to mention - the scan is a little darker than the actual bezel - that "orange" in the scan is more yellow per the photos.

No, it's scanned in 4 overlapping pieces that the art people put back together into a single sheet. It's a 11x17 scan surface.

11x17cm. ? Damn that's a lot of scanning and stitching........:D

By the way, thanks to Chris I found that Photoshop does this stitching automatically and I must say perfectly....

remember that paul is in the US, so its probably inches...

Tabloid size if you will  ;)

so 27.94 cm x 43.18 cm and that is about A3 size.

Cool! Were you able to confirm if the rest of the card had any colour on it? Seems odd to print it with only colour on the border, but it's so faded I can't tell if there were other colours used :(

I'm still a long way from doing anything with this game but was thinking about the bezel art, as it would be on the top of the bezel rather than underneath would I need to sandwich it with 2 thinner pieces of Perspex?

Thanks Ronnie

When I've had repro's on Plexiroll I've sandwiched between two thin sheets, yes. It's a little bit thicker than the original single sheet but so far all the cabs have accommodated it as the tolerances have been quite wide.

Thanks Paul, I thought as much, hopefully I won't buy anything else and that will give me time to work n it come the summer

Paul, the instruction card looks like it has a bit chopped off at the top? as the bottom black wraps round the card! maybe it was slightly too big and that was done to get all the writing in the window? Be good if we could get that fixed before printing?

Ronnie

The scan is of the sheet as it was. It may well have been trimmed down and in fact the card is a little too big for the window as it is. I printed off a slightly reduced size version for my cab but in the end I left it full size as it was.
Paul.
