Title: Mad Dog II The Lost Gold UK Upright
Post by: K1ngarth3r on May 10, 2015, 09:42:41 PM
I have a Mad Dog II: The Lost Gold being delivered in the not to distant future.

I don't think the original monitor is included, instead a Polo 25" is included which the current owner cannot figure out how to connect (Cables don't fit...)

The query is, which monitor should come with the machine, will the Polo 25" be okay? How do I hook it up?

Thanks  :D

I have no clue how the game is connected to the monitor and I couldn't find a manual.

KLOV says it uses a TV monitor so a Polo won't do the job here. You can use a TV for a RGB-monitor via the SCART-connector but AFAIK not vice versa.

Thanks for the response.

I've found a generic manual here http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/tech/pages/alg.asp (http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/tech/pages/alg.asp)

It seems that the monitor uses a BNC connector.

No idea if it's possible to convert the Polo 25" to BNC?

I think yes, BNC is usually used for RGB
my guess is that there are 5 BNC plugs ?

1 red
1 blue
1 green
1 Hsync
1 Vsync

If thats the case (which i think it is) you can hook it straight up to the polo if that has the same frequency as the game.

I think thats 15 Khz ?

Oh great thanks.

When I received the machine I will of course confirm :)

Thanks again  :D

I have just learned that a Valvo VCC93-chassis is able to work with a FBAS-signal so why not. But beware, there are different Polo-models out there, there might be different types with different capabilities!

From what I understand (And this could be wrong) the Hantarex Polo is 15Hz but the Hantarex Polo 2 is 15Hz/25Hz

I think mines got the 15Hz monitor in it.

The game uses a standard arcade 15 kHz monitor. The output of the Amiga genlock is a composite NTSC video signal that is usually sent to a NTSC to RGB video board that has the usual 5 wire output to the arcade monitor (R, G, B, GND and SYNC). Well, this unless you have the big screen 46" version of the games.

I'm grateful for the information Matteo.

Do you still have your Deluxe Mad Dog McCree?

Hi!
You're welcome. Yes, I still have it. And it's still for sale if someone wants it.
But be careful, Mad Dog is still in town and looking after you ;)

So the cabinet's arrived...

It arrived to me with a replacement HANTAREX Polo 25 monitor (It's the original 15Kz one not the Polo 2) and the chassis was loose outside the cab.

I've read the American Laser Games documentation on these cabinets and can see the GenLock feeding video to the NTSC demodulator board seen below:

I can see the Laser Disc being fed to it, but there are two red cables (Female) that look like they should hook up to the monitor chassis... I was thinking maybe here:

The problem is, at first glance of the monitors schematics I cannot see what these ports do?

Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of the connectors to count the pins and see if it matches (Will have to pull out again...)

Also there doesn't seem to be a monitor cage to secure the chassis back in place Cry

There is a board at the back though, do you guys think it should be secured there?

Thanks all in advanced.

I'm not really familiar with Laser games, although I'd like to be :-)  However I've seen Laser Disk games with a separate board for BNC connections on monitors. like this:

Do games like Mad Dog have a similar setup for the monitors?

Thanks for the link, I'll check the video out.

The laser disc video and the video from the Amiga seems to go from the gen lock to the composite video board (first picture)... It the seems to give two cables which are the BNC cables I assume... If there was just one row I'd plug into the video in on the chassis but there are two both female (I think have six pin holes...)

I've been informed that the monitor connects to either one of the second image I posted.

I checked the video and the pictures and it uses something similar as pictured above in the first picture.

Here's a slightly better picture of the video board (NTSC demodulator board)

The cables that come off it are here:

The one of the left has 6 female connectors and the 7th blocked off so should fit on the chassis... But what about the other... Its a similar configuration but the 2nd hole in is blocked off...

The is the monitor chassis, and there is diagrams on were I think the connectors should go.

Hi I also have the Mad Dog II but with the big screen.
I see you have an NTSC to 15khz conversion board so the arcade monitor is ok.
Could you post a picture of the cab?
If you need some help maybe I can give you. Just restored mine, and have spare parts.

Your machine looks fantastic, would love to have the original in deluxe form.

Where is the video right now?

If not uploaded, put it on DropBox / YouTube / Photobox etc

Otherwise just post the URL.

Nice collection of laser discs there!

Would love to own some of the others.

Matteo

When I get my new arcade building work complete I might be interested.

Its the thought of renting a van and driving to Italy that I find daunting.
