Well, all is well that ends well !
First of all a HUGE THANK YOU to Wurstkopp who tipped me (us) about this !!!
3 brand new NIB/NOS CRT low-res monitors were offered on Italian Ebay.
In such a case you have to decide quickly....something which goes pretty much against my nature, but this time I just bit....and was pretty nervous afterwards.....which turned out to be not necessary at all
Anyway....there was some good conversations with the seller and today the box arrived :) (Of course I would have wanted to buy them all...but there are limits...)

Pic 1: Manufacturer. Regretfully, the URL is dead.....and so is the company I guess...
Pic 2: Looks like an operator/distributor company. The URL leads to http://www.maximacompany.it/index.php/egg so I guess they're still kind of in business.....
-
SO......let's do something you don't see everyday :)
WARNING VERTICAL VIDEO AHEAD !!! YES I hate vertical videos too, but in this case I had to do a quick and easy set-up....sorry ! ;D

As expected a pretty "flat" tube with rather square corners.....can't have it all, you don't hear me complaining at all !

Pic2: Another sticker on the tube.....look at the production date: may 2005 !!!! A year later I started collecting !!

Sadly the pot board is not remote.....according to the manual it's an option, so you can "get" a flat cable for it.....maybe I can make my own....looks simple enough but we'll see.
-
I scanned the manual and schematics and you can download them here:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16677442/Intervideo%20Serie%20VP%2010-14-17-20-21%22.zip
The manual says there is only an isolation transformer necessary for repair/measuring so I assume it's not needed for regular use (would be weird if it would for a 2005 product).
What IS weird is that they mention that "for Europe" the mains voltage is 230VAC.....looks like it won't run on 115VAC which is regretful, but something I can live with.
Let's see if I can test it soon.....
-
I checked some of the caps.....I see Jamicon and Lelon caps....
http://www.jamicon.com.tw
http://www.lelon.com.tw
Both are Taiwanese brands.......well we'll see how long they'll last ;)
Would have preferred to see Nichicon and Panasonic instead but that would be wishful thinking....
-
nice, is this one going to be used in the qbert?
-
Looks good have fun with it ;) ;D
-
nice, is this one going to be used in the qbert?
i dont think so but nothing is impossible.
The plan was to use one of The "Irish" WG 19K7301's. That one uses a regular "US" connctor for The video connection and I already wired up a video cable with such a connector to The Q*bert harness. I guess i also prefer te more "bulby" look of those monitors.....
-
Nice buy , a clean monitor looks so much better... Enjoy
-
That monitor don't need an iso transformer: if you look close at it you will see that the psu is a switch mode psu. Pay attention though: the primary side of the psu is "hot", so in the case of servicing it while working you need a 1:1 iso ;)
-
Thanks Bari, yes the manual mentions exactly that :)
I think it's still weird it can only handle 230VAC

Great documentation with useful infos! Have you fired them up already? I remember once owning a Intervideo monitor with a broken flyback. After I had changed it the picture was fucking incredible! Great black level and awesome colours. Can't wait to see some pictures here as I can't test mine in the next months, baby stuff etc. :-\ :)

....baby stuff etc. :-\ :)
What the.....Congratulations!! :)

Thanks. :)

Woohoo, great news buddy.....sorry I only congratulate after everything went smooth.....I got my reasons for that....
About less important things, I guess you wanted to see this:

Not bad all in all....but the focus in the corners is a bit.....meeeehhhh...I actually expected this. The probable reason is the flatter screen and I guess they didn't bother to compensate this in the chassis design.
There's also some convergence errors in the corners, but those are, as they say "within factory spec" I guess :)
All in all, I am REALLY happy with it. The colors are nice and vibrant, it runs very quite and it's brand new for a great price.
Oh by the way, that is Craftymech's fantastic TPG at work with Buffet's cable that I modified to include a Hantarex connector.
Oh I also tested it with the med-res signal that the TPG can also create but this monitor is 100% low-res/15kHz :)
Thanks again for the great tip !!

Looks great!!! ;D :)

I put the Intervideo and the WG 19k7302 next to each other to compare a bit.
First thing I noticed is that the frame took a couple of bumps. but nothing I can't correct....
The pictures say enough I guess. The difference is pretty clear, but it's not like I wouldn't put that more square looking one in one of my cabs.....
Yes it's a bit bigger, the visible area is 51cm. diagonal, compared to 49cm. to the WG. That's not THAT much difference.
The difference looks a bit bigger in vertical position. I might want to reserve this one for a horizontal game.
-
More comparing "near flat" to "round"....
-
The depth doesn't differ that much, but it COULD be the difference between "fits" and "does not fit"....
-
Also made some pics of the chassis for future reference.... ;)
-
Details....and neckboard.
-
I noticed that there are also Elna caps and I saw one Daewoo on board.
I tested a couple of them (also the Letons and well) for now they are all within spec. Not by a large margin mind you, but in spec.....
Also tried to see what flyback is in there....it's a HR Diemen from Spain for sure....I can't find anything with those numbers though, but I think the numbers might be from the pots part only ?
-
While I had it out I also connected the WG (no ISO needed and "eats" all voltages) to mains and the TPG and I must say that all in all I tend to like the Intervideo picture better. The WG has less loss of focus in the corners and less convergence error in the corners too.
Not saying the WG is terrible....it's good for sure.

Hi Andre, thanks for the thread and all the informative pictures.
I might have a lead on one of these myself, and I find myself wondering about the frame/bracket. Do you think it will fit in a cab ment for a 19" monitor in the sense that the holes in the bracket corresponds?
Cheers,
HÃ¥kon/Arch

Hard to say. I think the side by side pics say a lot, but then again not all "round CRT" 19" momitor frames are equal. I think it will always be possible to at least make it fit....
-
Sadly the pot board is not remote.....according to the manual it's an option, so you can "get" a flat cable for it.....maybe I can make my own....looks simple enough but we'll see.
One just want to lick on it ;D ;D ;D

It's not plug + play, but it will work making some adjustments to the frame in the cabinet that holds the metal frame of the monitor; thankfully nearly all old cabinets are made of wood. ;)
BTW: The american 19" usually means 20" in Europe (different measuring), so there's only one inch difference to 21". I've just transplanted a 21"er into a System 1 cabinet, it was no big deal and you won't recognize it after installing the bezel.

Thanks for the useful info, guys! I will do my best to get my hands on one then.
