Title: Superully's Quest to find a Dragon's Lair - six years is enough ...
Post by: Superully on August 06, 2014, 05:28:19 PM
now that i've "let off some steam" (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=5601.0), i'm trying to get back on track and perhaps something will help me do so that i've been trying for six years now: FINDING A FREAKING DRAGON'S LAIR!!!

the guys who were already there a few years ago (how many of those are still around?) might remember our really young impatient member GermanCoasterBoy. he had found a dragon's lair cab in germany which he restored with the help of his father, but never got it working. here (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=448.0) is the original thread! he didn't have the patience (and the knowledge) to get it working, that's why he decided to sell it. first he wanted 2500 euros for it to get himself a CONGO pinball, but of course he didn't get that amount of money. he then put it on ebay (but in a wrong category) where it sold for around 600 euros if i remember correctly. i think it was matteo from italy who bought it eventually, but it took him a while to send the money, so i got contacted by our beloved GermanCoasterBoy telling me if "the Italian dude" hasn't paid by tomorrow, i could come pick it up for 500 at the weekend. of course i wanted to give matteo the chance to do so, because he had rightfully bought it, but i was ready to jump into my car and head out - especially because the seller's location was pretty close by. unfortunately (for me), matteo came through and got the cabinet for pretty cheap. good for him, bad for me ...

to cut a long story short, this was the closest (and the cheapest) i had ever come to owning a dedicated Dragon's Lair. i had it running once with an original laserdisk and an amiga using software and an adapter from a small german company (here's the link (http://www.oliver-kilb.de/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/LDG.pdf) to their flyer, but it wasn't what i was looking for eventually.

with that being said: john did it, so why can't i ? :P

please help me find a dedicated dragon's lair cabinet (best case: running on original laserdisk hardware)! i don't mind doing roadtrips, i don't mind dropping a few bucks, i don't even mind that andré thinks the game sucks :D, i just wanna have that FREAKING GAME!!!

enough said, bring it on guys!!! :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:

Try KLOV. And then use a container transport. Could be delivered to your door.   :)  ;)

A friend of mine
"Spectroman" who is on this forum found a DL2 Cab two month ago in south of France 1Hour drive from his home..

Lucky guy..

patience is a long road...
i'm still waiting too

my advice...

1) ask on this forum

(done)  ;D

if no  answer...

2) go for a container
 ;D

i know the hunt is a huge part of the hobby but some cab are too hard to find.

Don't click this link.

No...I mean it.

Seriously, this is worse than when the dad shot yellow dog on Old Yeller. Scarred for life.

Some positives though, I bet you can have a bitchin' game of TMNT on this baby ;-)

actually i don´t blame him. he seems to be a nice guy and he bought both cabs in the states. he had to pay shipping for them... and he was not able to share a container with others. in fact he thought he was the only guy in germany interested in arcade machines and he does not know that people like us exist. :)
his offer for tempest and dl was 6000 euros for me. i guess that comes close to what he did pay back then when he bought them in the us.

i don't think he hopes to get that amount after we talked. he wanted me to make an offer but i told him that he should not sell it to me. i am sure there are fans out here in europe that will pay good money for a dl that is located here. i have all the time in the world. i simply wait till John gets bored with his machine (in three of four weeks, John? ;) :) ;) )...

You can do it!!! GREAT GAME!

Are the Atari ones easier to find in Europe? Or do you want a Cinematronic one?

Well, the Atari ones are really hard to catch. And it's not especially a matter of money...it's just that the few owners of these ladies just don't want to sell them.
It would be more easy for someone who really want a Dragon's Lair to import a Cinematronic one via the Love container for example... I see quite often Cinematronics for sale on ebay US.
But finding an Atari one is of course not impossible...I'm sure there are still few of them hidden and waiting to be discovered... last example the TWO Atari cabinets (Space Ace) on this topic (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=5637.0)

You NEVER know....maybe I find a dark warehouse somewhere and the owner says....please sir, please...I want a decent price for every cab here, but you can have the DL there for FREE. It is complete, the Atari version (which is even more "fun" because it has no indicating lights), has a perfectly working LD player and there is even a spare LD player in the cab....I just cleaned and restored it but....sir.....please take it for FREE :)

yep....that is very possible....you never know....so if that happens....I promise......you will get that game man !  ;D ;D

......and I still have both of them beause the first guy that was interested had big eyes but empty pockets and for another guy I wait since months to get a list of games he have to trade.

Additionally I got less to zero time for the second Space Aces to sell at the moment as I have bought a bunch of new games from all around the world.

Karate Champ
Atari Canyon Bomber and
Tempest (from the US where my friend is for the next year who comes back with a container)

SEGA Super Hang-on and
Afterburner DLX from Germany (I am not looking forward to the transport and my mother will totally freak out when I bring it at her garage.

Killer Instict 2
ZZZ Galaxia
and a Cyber Cycles twin from Salzburg/Austria (not after one of that games but they was so cheap I could not resist, I gave the KI2 and ZZZ to my friend who is in the USA...for his kind service.

Virtua Figther
Assault
Berzerk
Alca Flying Circus
Williams Arctic Gun and
Frogger are the last standard sized games from the place I discovered last year (so it took me around a year to clear the lot), the rest are some huge DLX-cabs and cockpits

I can say that the last year made me a bit arcade-lazy as I collected well over 50 machines in a year and space becomes an issue more and more....but whom do I tell that, you know that better then I do.
