Title: Overkill Presentation
Post by: Overkilll on January 31, 2014, 01:04:25 PM
Hi Arcade Fans

A long time that i knew the existence of this forum, and now i decide join to this community.

I only tell a little story about mu addiction, because i don't want to waste much of your time...

I am a Portuguese pinball and arcade collector from Lisbon, 45 years old. I have a private gamerrom with near 30 pinballs and same arcades:

1 Spy Hunter upright (to sell)
1 Midway T2 (to sell)
4 Daytona USA
2 Defenders (my grail) that i just buy from USA.
1 Baby Pac-man

When i was young almost every street have a gameroom of bar with pinballs/arcades, and i pass more time in this places that in home. In the end of 70's i start playing pinball, but when the arcades arrived 1979/1980 the pinballs came to 2nd plan, first i remember playing pong arcade and asteroids and i don't like very much, but when Defender arrives, everything in my world changed this arcade is for me the ultimate challenge i have only 13 years old and i can't play a arcade so hard, and when i see same guys more older playing with only one coin every day and disconnect the arcade at the end of day with bonus, i dream that in the future i will play like them. More later Defender will be changed for "better" and newest arcades but Defender still have a place of my heart forever. I am an game addict (every type) and when i lost much money with one arcade almost all the times i dominated this arcade. The arcade where i played better is Xevious.
When i was 30/35 years old i start thinking to make a private game room only for fiends, i start with pinballs (I have one great pinball collection, except stern pinballs, i have only LOTR), now i start collect arcade to join to my gamerrom.
Many years ago i try to buying one Defender from UK, but for different reasons always unsuccessful. Now i buy 2 from USA.

As i have a problem with space in my gameroom i have to sell same pinballs/arcades to get space for my new acquisitions.

I search:
* Xevious upright working
* Video pcb working for Daytona USA (I want to put 4 working connect to play with my soon and friends.
You are all invited to visit my private gameroom in Belas, near Lisbon.

Both Atari. No Namco Xevious on that pic. Maybe a Namco board-set or ROM set but not the Namco cab.

If there was ever one....this probably was it:

But I have a feeling that this was another dedicated Namco cab that got converted to Xevious....not sure though...

You are wrong, or partially wrong.

Or i am wrong.

One of them is maiden in USA by Atari with Namco license. Another as maiden in Eire to European market by Namco.

In the backside of the arcades i have a metallic plate that have this informations.

Probably should have another Xevious produced in Japan.

As Daytona USA and other arcades, the production runs simultaneity in different parts of the world.

My two games have also 2 different pcbs and games.

The Atari version have a cage with the boards, better cabinet with better wood and you can only put 3 characters on best scores.
The Namco version do not have the cage and boards are side by side, worst cabinet and the game version permits to put to 8 characters on best scores.

The 2 games have also a different enemy attack sequence.

Also the Attractive panel above the CPO is quite different.

I have one of them with a dedicated ic damaged, and until now i can not find a replacement. (But this IC is the same in the 2 boards), the 2 pcbs have a different structure many almost all the components is the same.

When i as young (Many, many years ago....), this is the game that i played better. I am the best player of my street.

Now. I have to find and buy the Japanese version.

I seriously doubt there ever was one...the Japanese flyer only shows a (generic) cocktail version.

I'd consider both machines as Atari machines. Many Atari games were produced in both the U.S. And Ireland, but they were still Atari machines.

Of course it's possible that Namco shipped the boards directly from Japan to Ireland, in fact that would make a lot of sense. The cages were a typical thing for over the top U.S. FCC rules so not necessary for Europe.

Atari U.s. did have the habit to convert PCBs to their own (for good reasons sometimes, f.i. Pole Position).

Anyway, Atari apprantaly/obviously held the license for not US and European markets for Xevious so considering all this.......both are Atari ;);)

Of course, ironically, later the factory in Ireland was owned by Namco, but that was many years later :)

Would love a pic of those plates you mention :)

When i can i will take same photos of the plates and even of the pcbs.

The pcbs are very different.

And you is wrong, Atari only have permission to produce to the USA market. Then i presume that who produces in Eire is Namco as the plate shows.

But one strange thing is that the banner of the both cabinets have the Atari logo, but the game Namco version dont have the Atari logo.
