Title: Sega Multi Cab: Mega-tech System
Post by: gyruss on February 22, 2013, 08:44:56 PM
Ronald Reagan and I bought this cab yesterday, it's the Sega version of the Playchoice 10 and comes with 8 Mega Drive games. Got it pretty cheap and it's working but there are some problems with 4 of the buttons, i guess some new cherry micro switches will fix that. I also plan to install a new CPO (after i ask Etienne to touch up the existing vector file  ;D  ;)).

It's not the best looking cab around but it feels great to enjoy Mega-Drive again, i used to play it all the time at my cousins house.

Here's a look inside, as you can see the cab uses almost the same cartridges as the console. I'll try to hunt down Moonwalker, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and Thunderforce II.

Feels awesome hearing the sonic music again and i love the quality of the screen.

Cool although I have no emotional connection with these multi-machines, some games on them are pretty damn good :)

If you have the same problem with 4 button at once it might well be that the ground wire is having some problem (the one that is daisy-chained over all the buttons).

Cool, never saw like this before, nice selection of games you have there. ;)
Maybe I can help getting those games you want, sega cartridges are quite common in our local flea market every weekend. ;)

Thanks Etienne, i'll send you a pm..  :D

@Muerto: there were 2 very cheap ones for sale some months ago, so they aren't rare, should i warn you when another pops up?

@Level42: I swapped some bad micro switches with working ones, so now all player 1 buttons function. Could that still mean there's a ground wire problem? And how do i check if that's the case?

There are lot's of cool titles, here's a full list: http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/Sega_Mega-Tech

@Belike, thanks, but it uses slightly different cartridges.:(

Please do, though, atm I dont know where to put it... My philosiphy once was that i vould like to have every single game, like Q*bert and Q* berts Qubes, but space is scarse, so multi games is a good option till another solution presents itself....

there some way (sacrificing one megatech game)  to use "real" MD games instead of the megatech ones .  (costs are largely x5 x10 for these..)

No, too bad there isn't.. but i read something about a converter that was developed in the uk, it's supposed to be pretty rare.

@Caincan: interesting, do you have a link?

Here are some more pictures, always nice to find old Guldens!

not a precise link..  seen a sale of an italian player on forums last year.  he said he sacrified a megatech game and it was matter of rewiring to the correct pinouts of megadrive cartdriges games..

if this can be done.. that would be logic to add a  Ever-drive !   so nearly all games could run

give me that money!!

The coloring in the letters of MegaTech, is probably the pinnacle of coloring during the eighties. You used to see that everywhere.
Nice if someone can dig up an MJ or Shinobi cartridge. Those games were typical Sega icons in the head to head console-war against Nintendo.

it comes with a pretty interesting story:

Tetris is a 1988 Sega System 16 game developed and published by Sega. It was licensed from Atari Games (credited as Tengen) and Mirrorsoft, who held the rights to produce Tetris arcade games at the time. A less powerful version was also released for Sega System E hardware. Both versions are unrelated to Atari's arcade version, released in the same year under the same name.

Sega attempted to port the game to the Sega Mega Drive, however sales were blocked by Nintendo who owned the home console rights to the franchise (they had taken Atari's home console division, Tengen to court over a similar incident on the NES). As such, only about 10 cartridges were produced, all of which were only released in Japan. This version is now a rare collector's item, being sold in auctions for up to US$16000. Because Nintendo had no authority over the arcade versions, the Sega Mega Drive port was brought to Mega-Tech hardware in 1989

another story , one lucky guy who already own a Tetris Megadrive, has succeeded to make it signed by Alexey Pajitnov  :-*

Hi here akira230,

i bought a megatech cabinet and it doesn't work because the power switch regulator wasn't installed ( the black box inside the cabinet behind the "caution high voltage panel).
I bought this switch regulator but i don't know how to connect the wires correctly. I have 8 wires to connect.
My question: Is it possible, that  someone  can send me an detailed Photo from the Frontsite of the switch regulator (the side where the wires are connected), so i can connect the wires correctly.

Thank's and best regards
akira230
