Title: Two grails in one day - Stargate and Centipede Cabaret
Post by: Arch on May 11, 2012, 10:54:40 AM
Highscore! I just have to share my total joy with you guys! Yesterday a very nice Swede (dimmuborgir here on the forum) came along and dropped off Stargate and Centipede Cabaret!  :)

Both cabs are fully working and in good nick. The Centipede Cabaret has some monitor issues with the colour balance and it needs a recap, but that will be sorted out. The player-buttons are not original, and I really want to have the cone button leds in there. If anybody here know where I can find some, be it original or repro, please give me a shout. Other than that there is a small tear in the inner cardboard bezel, but that's it.

The Stargate is also quite fresh. There are some dents to the side art, but most of what you can see in the picture is dirt that will come off with a magic eraser. I will do a colour match and touch up some spots as well. No other issues as far as I can tell. The cp is very fresh, apart from the two holes that I really can't figure out why somebody has drilled.

I wonder a bit about the buttons and the joystick though. Most of the Stargates I have seen on the web has a setup of green, red and white buttons and a red balltop on the stick. Can this be some sort of Euro setup, or are they all later replacements?

Overall not a lot of work to be done on these except for playing them until my fingers bleed. Today I also got the confirmation from the Oslo Pinheads pinball club that they approve me as a member, so now I have a place to put these babies. It all comes together so nicely, I expect to slip on the pavement and break a leg today. Something's gotta give you know.

But right now I'm just very happy. Dreams can come true!   ;D

Damn, both are beautiful! Congratulations!

Level42 knows where to get those cone buttons, he gave me a set a few years ago.

Did I ? Damn, I didn't know I would need them for my Lunar Lander now ;););););)

Congrats, nice looking machines !!! The great thing about Centi cabaret is that it still has the 19" monitor like the upright.

Stargate well.....I just never can get used to those darn Defender controls....but it's sure a nice and quite rare game to have !

That joystick ball looks like a Joust one to me....

Remember that Centi colors are different from what we are mostly used too. This was a game co designed by a woman and I guess that's where the pastel colors came from....
Usually they are G07 monitors in Centi's so shouldn't be hard to fix.

Wow, both cab looks like in great condition. :o
Congrats. ;)
I just picked up a Hit The Ice Williams cp with 2 (red, blue) original leaf switch joysticks, but I think they used the Defender type here, which is a bit different.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I think I will be able to sort out the cones by means of arcadeshop.de. I wouldn't go as far as calling them minty, but they are good to very good condition. I am very happy that they aren't projects, because even if I like the restoration part, I am quite heavily into my Zacc cab restoration atm. These are instantly playable!  :) I had an American friend over for dinner last night, and he brought his ten year old. It was very heartwarming to see the dad kicking ass NYC arcade style on the Centipede while the kid had a blast at the Stargate.

As for the monitor in the Centipede: I got the full paperwork with the cab, and the manual is as you say supposed to be an Electrohome. The monitor sitting in it now though is a Hantarex MTC900. I've taken note about what you say about the pastel colours though, and I will triple check before I decide to call it an "issue". Thanks for the heads up, L42. Muchomuch appreciated.

If you look beneath the controlpanel, i.e open it, and also take a look in the coinbox, you will find some cones...

Hehe, thanks dimmu. I found those - eventually.

Thing is, though - and this might be very purist - I want the LED buttons that came with the cab originally. And I just won myself some at ebay. \:D/

Gyruss: there _is_ side art available over at gameongrafix, but I'll have to make up my mind whether I think it looks cooler with or without it. Apparently, back in the day, the operators could send a card to Atari and order the side art as an extra. The side art is cool though. Hm. What do you guys think? Keep it as it is or install side art?

edit: Ah, what the hell, let's add a poll!  ;D

Yeah, it is a factory thing, even though the operators needed to order it separatly (not sure if they had to pay for it).

As you probably know cabarets were meant to "blend in" in surroundings that are not like arcades and thus came with the famous woodgrain.

Your gameroom is more like an arcade though, not a restaurant or other place where you want to "hide" the cabinet in the surroundings.

I would definitly do it.

Read somewhere  on KLOV that the OP had to pay extra for the sideart if he wanted it - and that´s why it´s so rare, coz no one did....
I def. think you should slap it on there!!! - they made it for a reason!

And the Centi on the black background looks extra cool. IMHO they should have done the upright sides black too..
