imagine you had a spare nintendo cabinet and the choice of converting it to any classic nintendo game except donkey kong, donkey kong jr. and donkey kong 3, which game would you choose?
how about donkey kong ii - jumpman returns?
or what about popeye?
why not do a radarscope (picture courtesy of bruno 8))?
then again, a dedicated dr mario might also be a cool idea ... ?

or perhaps something completely different? let's hear from you guys!!! :spaceace:

Hoho!!! I'm sure this topic will kick ass soon! :-*
OK, if I had a spare Ninty' cab, I would go for an other RED Donkey Kong! That would allow me to reverse back my current 'RED ONE' DK into its original state : RadarScope.
In your case, I would say two choices : DK2 because the new artworks are so gorgeous and even the game looks terrible (but I never played it so far tbh) or ...Dr Mario because... mhhh ... I dunno why, but when I'm thinking about Superully, I'm immediately thing about the GREEN color... ;D
In addition, no one has it! So that's the one you have to have 8) ;)
-
I would go for Popeye or Radar Scope, Popeye is the best and RS is the rarest and also great game IMHO.
-
Popeye !!! Love it !!! Great game :-*
-
Popeye! It looks the best and the game is also fun. I like dr Mario but the vs control panels and no side art suck. Dk2 is a waste of an original Nintendo cab IMO.
-
Mario Bros.
-
i would say radarscope because of the history behind it, i mean no radarscope, no redcab donkey kong!
I also like DK2, but its not an original cab, although the sidearts are cool, it is better inside a DK as a upgrade.

Popeye, because you have the most parts from it. ;)
-
i agree with what you guys said: popeye would probably be choice number one, because it is a fun game with fabulous artwork.
as for dkII, although it would be cool to have just to complete the dk lineup, why not simply throw the add-on into a dk cab and switch between games, after all, the four original levels are also included in the game.
and then there's radar scope: not an all time classic, but it was there before donkey kong, so it deserves it's place amongst the nintendo games. i'd rate the gameplay as ok (not sucky, not brilliant), but the sounds are somewhat annoying, don't you think?
-
Popeye has my vote. Fun game, cool cab art and that blue is a stunner. :)

There was never a dedicated Dr. Mario, that picture is from a guy from KLOV that did it in green, coz he thought it looked cool, and it does!!!
I would go for a D2K!

there never was a dedicated DKII either (nor was there a dedicated bubble bobble ;)), but i like what the guy did with dr mario, although i'm no fan of that generic control panel. although we have been blessed with nintendo cabs because of the paul50s' bulk buy, i still wished there would be more around to fulfill everyone's nintendo dream ... 8)
-
Well, scr33n has released his cabinet plans, so it is posible to create them ;) ;D
-
nice topic
I like the green Dr. Mario.
I would make a Popeye, or create one myself for Castlevania which is a kickass game, with kickass music and this pic as side-art:
I would paint the cab nintendo grey, like the 8 bit system cabinet. Buttons red.
the intro screen could function as the marquee:
or I would make a Goonies from the vs. series. Print nice side art from the movieposter, paint the cab Nintendo grey or black
(http://www.impawards.com/1985/posters/goonies.jpg)
Also I would like the Back to the Future nintendo cab.

here's another rare Nintendo cab

There is an official VS Castlevania Marque available:
BTW did you consider making it a Playchoice?
-
I dont like that marquee at all, purple letters? The theme of Castlevania is perfect for a dedicated cab. Dracula's, monsters, bats, evil castles etc. Think: Dark, grim, blood
a dedicated Nintendo cab is way cooler than a PlayChoice.
-

agreed! i'm just no fan of that playchoice design in general

are you slapping yourself, michael? :P
-
if face palming = slapping, then i am ;)
-
Did you see the pictures of that guy on klov who's making a dedicated DK'94?
He did a great job on the side art, the cabinet will be painted of course. ;)

I like the PlayChoice cabs, but I think the side-art is quit dull. No theme just letters. That's why I prefer the other Nintendo cabs
Nice DK'94. a woody LOL
-
BTW, you are in a very lucky position to even ask this question, I'm sure lot's of people are jealous (me included). :D ;)

Awesome, it even has the topper! ;D
This one is (almost) impossible but so cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hG6Z-kHw9I

-
i love those vs toppers!!! did nintendo only make them for vs games or for all their other games as well? would be cool to have toppers on donkey kong and co.
and perhaps you guys think i'm stupid, but what the heck is donkey kong '94?
-
Don't think so, but they made a lot of great (metal) ones for the Playchoice:

makes me want to own one even more! ;D
DK '94 wiki:
Donkey Kong (ドンキーコング Donkī Kongu?) is a platform game developed in 1994 by Nintendo for the Game Boy handheld video game system, which also contains puzzle elements. Donkey Kong is loosely based on the 1981 arcade game of the same name and its sequel Donkey Kong Jr. The game was known under the working title Donkey Kong '94 before the release.[1] Like in the original arcade and NES version, the player takes control of Mario and must rescue Pauline from Donkey Kong (who are both given updated character designs for this game). Donkey Kong Jr. also makes a guest appearance in the game on some levels, helping his father hinder Mario's progress. This was the first Game Boy title designed with enhanced features when played on the Super Game Boy. It features gameplay elements from Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., and Super Mario Bros. 2.

I Like DK 94, its a nice conversion on the GB
And if you play it on the GBA, it has color too, which makes it more attractive:

eh ... he's building an upright cabinet for a gameboy cartridge? ???
-
Yes, but you can also play the game on your tv with a Super Gameboy, it has some colors and even a DK bezel.
Check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw_SYU0-QlI

hehe, yes he is ! hahah
It was my initial idea for the mini zacc that i wanted to use my GB advange SP to make it alive, but i just could not part with my GBA ;D
Maybe i can do it in the future, i mean, they get cheaper and cheaper second hand... ::) ::) idea  :D
-
or this one
(http://www.gamesdbase.com/Media/SYSTEM/Arcade/Advert/big/HeliFire_-_1980_-_Nintendo.jpg)
-
look at the shape, it isn't the same as the DK cab's.
-
nope, that's a different shape nintendo used, e.g. on space firebird as well!
-
yes, and these games weren't developed by nintendo but by a company called Ikegami:
According to some sources in the early 80s, Ikegami developed a number of arcade games as a subcontractor to Japanese video game companies. Among the games they may have developed are Computer Othello, Block Fever, Monkey Magic, Congo Bongo, Popeye, Donkey Kong, Radar Scope, Sheriff, Space Fever, Space Firebird, Space Demon, Heli Fire, Sky Skipper, Space Launcher and Zaxxon. At that time, computer programs were not recognized as copyrightable material. According to these sources, Ikegami proceeded to sue Nintendo for unauthorized duplication of the Donkey Kong program code for the latter's creation of Donkey Kong Junior (1983, Tokyo District Court), but it was not until 1989 that the Tokyo High Court gave a verdict that acknowledged the originality of program code. In 1990, Ikegami and Nintendo reached a settlement, terms of which were never disclosed.
Guess that also cancels out Sky Skipper.
-
Hmmm, i wouldn't go too "exotic": Popeye would be my choice :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
-
here's another rare Nintendo cab
(http://www.arcade-museum.com/images/104/1049428123.jpg)
Paul had that setup, in a red cabinet, one of the earliest model.
I contacted him few months ago, because I really want an other red cabinet ... but it was already sold ...
-
thx for all your input and ideas, guys, i have made my choice
next in line would probably be radarscope, followed by donkey kong ii (but only if i managed to find a complete silkscreend art package from rich's first run. i'll have a lookout for those no matter what!)
-
Excellent choice Ully :-*
-
I would go for a poye too.
Donkey kongs are so common those days ;D
Anyway, whatever you choose from your top 3 order,
It will be top notch !
