>>> EUROCADE 2012 <<< saturday 1 september 2012, Ridderkerk, The Netherlands

OK guys and girls, What do you say ? Can we do it again ? Will we have as many people and cabs there again ? Are you willing to do another nuts-trip again ?

Last december, when the year came to an end I was reflecting a bit on the year, of course Eurocade came up as one of the high points of 2011.
I also thought that September 2012 was still a pretty long time away and thought what the hell, why don't we just do it again....

So I asked around at the Eurocade 2011 crew, and all agreed to help me out with Eurocade 2012 !!!

Yes, the initial idea was to let Eurocade travel around Europe, but since there were no serious alternatives coming up AND since everything about Eurocade 2011 seemed to be very satisfying for everyone we thought, why not "same place, same time".

You can be assured that we have learned from the couple of things we can still improve on and will try and make Eurocade 2012 even better !!!!

SOOOOOOOOOO, take out your agenda and make a big reservation for september the first 2012 !!!! (better, cross out the entire weekend !!!!)

As last year, Eurocade is nothing without the visitors bringing a cab. I hope everyone who brought one last year (or two) can do it again, and those who didn't please do everything in your way to make it possible to bring one because this is THE essence of Eurocade: bring one cab, enjoy LOTS of cabs !

Based on the survey we did after Eurocade 2011, we decided that this year we will have a FIXED contribution price including everything (except drinks) because the vast majority of people indicated they preferred that.

We will have to do some calculation to see what the price will be at let you know ASAP.

Again, Eurocade is for YOU, BY YOU, without YOUR cab Eurocade is NOTHING. Only together we can make Eurocade 2012 a success like 2011 !!!

Please post here if you are willing to join in the fun, how many people you will bring (same rules as last year) and how many and what cabs !!!!

I had a look at our financial bookkeeping from last year and as you know we managed to break even.

Now....from the survey it was indicated by a majority of people that they want to switch to a fixed price and get rid of the "free donations" piggybank. The reason is simple: if everybody pays a fixed price, it is the fairest for everyone.

Now we did some budgeting for 2012 and it turns out that the price per person will be €20 per person.

This covers the following:

- soft-drinks and low alcohol drinks during the entire day (we do expect and ask you to keep moderate and                   won't allow excessive drinking)
- lunch including fresh rolls, hot soup and our famous Dutch hot snacks !
- at 18.00 sharp a fabulous buffet with various dishes !!
- a day of fun !!!!

From this we also finance:
- rental of the building
- electricity costs
- "dress up" costs of the arcade room
- all other costs

Last year we managed with the drinks but only because a lot of you guys were kind enough to bring trays of beer/lemonade etc.etc.
We kindly ask you to keep that up as we WON'T make the budget !

I know I can count on you !!!

Thanks !

GGGGGGGRRREEEEAAAATTTT !

Can we also count on your help with some decoration as you offered earlier on ? Some things to consider: price, fire safety, re-usability,  and transportability ;)

Which cabs will you bring ? Please no "mystery cabs" this year, people want to know if their favorite game is going to be there :) Even if it's not sure, please mention your intention ;)

Yes, of course I'm still OK to work on the "decoration" too.
About the cabs this year I will definitely bring a working Taito Space Invaders and probably the Juno First too (still have to work on both so, let's say it's 75% confirmed (but I have plan Bs)).
Eurocade (201)2: If you hear the aliens blastin', do come a knockin'!

For now, i will definitely bring my Donkey Kong and Moon Patrol. If we get Ronald Reagan's dedicated 4 player Simpsons working i'll bring that too.

André, André, you just came out from the hospital and your first attraction is Eurocade 2012, lol! ;D :spaceace:
Count us in of course, I will give another try to my Space Pirate, if it won't be ready, the participants can choose one from the Zaccs.
I also thought about Defender as a 2nd option, but it does not fit to my car. :-\

LOL.....well I can push some keys on the keyboard, believe it or not I even did some "bullet proofing" work on an Amplifone board set tonight....I'm getting board enough already. With the snow and freezing cold it's almost impossible to go out for me now....

Hey, Arcadelifestyle at it's best right ? ;)

I am totally honored and extremely happy that you are willing to AGAIN do this epic trip all the way from Budapest !!!  :spaceace: :spaceace: :space ace:

Space Pirate is definitely unique and it would be cool to be able to give it a proper try :) I added it to the list, if things change (it will always change) we can adjust the list of course........

Hell yeah!!!  The bullet is through the church.  :spaceace:

I'm very happy to be part of the crew again, it was soooooooooo much fun last year. And I will bring a cab along of course, don't know which one yet, but will let you all know in time.

So, 1 September is marked with a big fat red cross in my agenda. In fact, like last year, you can also count on me the day before (and after).

YEAH! Of course I'm in .. Since my Eurocade approved PP died this weekend it's time to move on and do some progress to fix some cabs that are in the storage for a long time. So I will concentrate on one machine I am very excited to play since two years now: Video Pinball   :)

With maybe a little help from my friends here I think it will be possible to get it to work till September and bring it to Eurocade.

That would be totally AWESOME PRC !! And a nice inspiration for me too !!!
I will be at Robins wednesday next week (condition allowing) and I will bring my VP pcb to see if we get any life out of it....at least it can function as a back up if needed...

I do assume Mrs. PRC will join you this time ??

I'm afraid, Mrs. Caveman will not attend :( Maybe I will bring Jochen again ;)

I am pretty confident that I can bring the VP to life. I had a working board from Laschek for testing the machine once. So I need to fix my board in the first place. The cab itself works! The monitor has major burns and desperately needs a cap kit but I hope speleo_de can help me out with some inside knowledge of the monitor. The VP is definately one of the most exciting bw-cabs ever!! Real eye candy. The game itself is astoudingly good ... but compared to a real pinball it sucks of course and gets boring after a few coins ;)

What amazes me most about VP is the natural way the ball moves. For a 1978 game ther is some awesome calculations going on to get that done...or they found out som clever tricks...

I even haven't checked my monitor....I dont know if it has burn in since there still is a thick layer of dust on it

Wahoooo ! YES !!!

Well, I think I speak for everybody when I say the Ice Cold Beer is MORE than welcome again !! Maybe you should just leave it at the clubhouse so you dont have to bring it every year ;);););)

I still remember that funny talk between you and one of our senior members about the ICB !!! LOL

Seriously, would you have to do the huge roundtrip again ? Or do you have some machines in the UK now ?

Yes, the whole concept of VP is something that can never be done without the real cab. Maybe we should wear 70s white suits and Ray-Bans this year ??

@Krousti....that is indeed a great reason, congrats !!

I'm not sure I can make it yet (may be abroad again).

But if I do, I can offer Omega Race, finally got the bastard working.

And if I don't, and someone going that way has room in their van/trailer/zeppelin, they can take it anyway.

@Muerto, of course its up to you, but dont feel obliged to go get the ICB....I bet a direct trip here would be quicker and cheaper? The one's you have in the UK would be cool additions for Eurocade too !
Anyway plenty of time...

@Liquid: hope you can make it and the Omega Race would be a GREAT addition to Eurocade !!

@Atarimania: great to have you again to and a two player racer is definitly something we missed last year !!

Thanks guys !!!

Indeed ... but let's face it, most of them (and some of the highlights of the show) are crew-members cabs. If you guys wouldn't bring all your personal treasures things would be a lot different.

Just after the last Eurocade I tried to get Eurocade to germany but if I look into my personal gameroom and compare my collection (and therefore the start-lineup) I got to the conclusion that Eurocade might suck, if I would organize it.  ;D

So I'm glad you do it again!!  :-*

Entertainment should be illegal at weddings  ;D

I'm considering to show up with 20-30 playable VFD handhelds. Does that equal to 1 big cab?
I can even throw in a Vectrex and a totally awesom G7200.

Waaaah! It's a shame that Thorsten (and Dirk too??) can't come. But I promise, if you move the date somebody else will have no time. Damn. We need two or three ECs this year ;)

Is there any change this year concerning candys and computers and stuff?? I remember last years discussion about "opening" EC to a wider range of interests. I mean I personaly don't care. I'm just there for the old wood and the nice people of course but I'm just curious ....

Don't move the date because of me!! That would not be fair to those who could not be there when it was moved!

There is a slight chance the wedding will not happen....if they part before ;)
But that will not happen, at least I don't hope that will happen 'cause I like them both very much! PLUS SHE is very much into videogames and pinballs....more than he is ;)

Just mark out every first weekend in september for the coming years in your agenda !! :P

Nov 19, great let's celebrate my birthday in Palatina ! (Where the f....is Palatina ?)  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Ok, I checked the room prices at Van Der Valk and there's some weird options like last year.
If you set the correct date for Eurocade, it gives to options "book last minute" or "book this room".
There is almost 50% price difference between the 2 options and the booking system allow me to book last minute in 8 months advance for 57.50 or 79.5 for the executive room for that date. ::)

Yup, similar thing like last year. "Last minute" my @ss....anyway, DO choose Last Minutes for lowest prices.

The prices you mention are per person per night right ?

IIRC it is also cheaper per night if you book TWO nights instead of 1....

hey eurocade-guys, fabulous news! count me in - and this time i'm bringing a cab, nothing's gonna stop me! don't know which one yet, but there's still some time left ...

@bela: is the executive room worth the price difference?

Post by: Belike on February 09, 2012, 07:36:34 PM

The prices you mention are per person per night right ?
No, it says:
Atrium Room
€57.50 per room per night (With breakfast)
Total costs: €115.00 (2 Pers.)

  Executive Room
€79.50 per room per night (With breakfast)
Total costs: €159.00 (2 Pers.)

@bela: is the executive room worth the price difference?
I think not too much, our room was beautiful and comfortable, but didn't look like as they described on their website.
As I can see from your pics from last year, the rooms are almost similar, I will go for the cheaper Atrium room this year.

Yes those are the prices if you book two nights. If you book only one night the prices are higher...

Sorry to hear the room wasn't as promised on the site last year.... what was not OK ? :-\

I guess the only real difference is the mini bar and the "jacuzzi" bath ?

Hell yeah, better get those pinball machines running, Mrs. Caveman is coming to Eurocade. That means no schnaps for me this time, I have to behave ;) Unforunately she will bring no extra cab, I hope that's ok.

Haha, yeah would be great to be able to play "my" babies again ;) ;) ;)

GREAT that Mrs. PRC decided to join in !! I do hope we can get some pinballs in like last year !

I already spontaneously got two of the ladies who helped with the drinks and the food last year offering their help again so seems like even they enjoyed it ;)

Just back from holiday

Great to hear there is a date set for the new eurocade ;D

I know I promises to bring the afterburner dlx to the next eurocade but that’s still a mission impossible at the moment but I have some other options ;)
No more starwars from this site(sorry )

Are there going to be pins this year?
I can bring
Jungle lord and/or goldwings

For arcade (how much space is left over? ::))
Can bring some new generation stuff

Sega Alien 3  the gun (easy is working)

Konami jet wave (needs work, think note to difficult )

Outrunners 2 player sit-down (the thing I mist the previous eurocade sit-down racers)(needs work)

Also possible sega desert tank (working on at the moment)

So what is your opinion, witch game got the most intrest?

also can bring all ;) If you arrange a bigger location

my number one choice would be the afterburner dlx, but since this is not possible (come on, dude, you still have half a year to get it working ;)) my first vote goes to alien 3 and then outrunners!

Following is my PRIVATE opinion and counts just as much (or little ;)) as others':

Your Outrunners is a dual one right ? [EDIT] Sorry, over-read this....yes it is :)

If there was anything really missing last year it was a head-to-head driving game. At every meeting I have been, these are _always_ a huge success.

Yes, of course the Afterburner would be a DREAM to have, but what's not possible is not possible....

Next would probably be Konami Jet Wave for me because it's simply SO different from "all the others".

About a bigger location...the only option we have is installing a tent. That could be a good idea for the really big-ass machines ? (Saved dragging them inside and back). Problem is....can't leave them overnight...

Draggin in and out is no problem at all, last year we where plenty of people that could help, so i don´t see a problem there...

My vote: OutRunners 2 - as Andre said, a dual player (head to head) was missing last time...

Hi there. Great news!
Now that I got this earlier I can do more planning on my trip.

I'm coming - and can bring an arcade of course.  I assume that "guy with the camera" will join.

Depending on working condition I take:
SEGA Out Run
or
NBA Jam
or
Hyper Olympic (Konami European Edition)
or
Chequered Flag (Sit Down)

Noticed very little difference at Luigi & Capt. Kirk's ;)

@Cebulba: GREAT !!!! I second HyperOlympic but Outrun would be most welcome too of course :)

Since most vote for Hyper, I just put that one on the list, should it change just let me hear... ;)

"The guy with the camera"....? Please enlighten me.... ?

Polder: I put up "only" 2 of your machines in the list (plus both pinballs) for you for now. Are you serious that you can bring ALL you listed ? I mean, that would be 2 road-trips at least I think ??

Friends !!!

This thread is up only one week and we already have at least 17 registered visitors and already 26 machines promised to be there !!!!

Simply amazing and a LOT more than we had after one week last year.

SO this is looking great BUT KEEP THEM COMING !!! We still miss responses from a number of people who visited last year ! And we still have room for more cabs !!

OK friends....

Thanks !

(Note that only visitors with Eurocade tickets will have "free" drinks. Like last year some members of the band may visit Eurocade after 22.00 because there is again a rehearsal in the building "next door".
These people pay for their own drinks !!!)

The Eurocade crew believes that this is a pretty good price considering all the things included.

Talking about money, I'm happy to report that the prices of the Van der Valk restaurant have remained the same for this year....so not everything gets more expensive every year ;)

Also note:
- parking at the Hotel is FREE
- parking at the Eurocade location is FREE

Plenty of space at both locations !

(not every meeting can offer this ;) ;) ;))

I just updated the entire Eurocade website.

www.eurocade.eu

This is only a temporary update for now so that all data is up-to-date.

Please note all rules & info are the same as last year...and by visiting  Eurocade 2012 you agree to the terms.

I also noticed that it is now exactly 200 days until Eurocade 2012......damn that sounds LOOOOOOONG ;) :)

Cool and welcome aboard !!

DK jr. would be a great addition !!!!
I do have to say that one thing we have learned from last year that it doesn't work out if we (the Eurocade crew) have to drive all places on friday and saturday AND sunday to pick up machines and bring them back again. Quite simply, we do not have the time for that, all 5 of us are really very busy setting everything up on friday AND dismantling everything again on sunday. So, this year everybody really has to arrange transport themselves. Of course we can try to negotiate if we know certain people come from a certain area and maybe have space left in a van or something like that.

So for everyone who has transport problems, post it here, where you are from and than things can be arranged between members. We will try not to interfere with that process unless it's really necessary ....

Also, I don't want to see lame excuses like "my machines are two stories high, I really can't bring one"....Well, since I manage to transport about 8 games up and back, I think bringing 1 cab down the stairs is a minimal sacrifice everybody can make !! :D After all, the machine did come up there at one point in time before...... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Pengo is an excellent suggestion, but then again Ully has so many brilliant machines :) :)

I've got the same problem, and because i'll be bringing a minimum of 2/3 cabs it seems i'll have to rent something. But luckily there will be more then enough time to arrange that.

My good friend RobinHolland visited tonight (so the whole arcade collecting community of the arcade capital of Europe was together tonight ;) ) to check a CRT on a Hantarex 900 monitor. Again the Müter proved it's value, this time by simply indicating everything was FINE with the ITT tube. No shorts, a nice neck-glow and values of above 0,8 on all three guns. So, whatever the "sparkly" issue on the neck board was, the tube was OK and not the problem....

Nothing to do with Eurocade of course BUT I of course had to ask Robin if he could have a cab up for Eurocade this year and he promised to bring a cocktail AND have the SPY HUNTER working at Eurocade (fingers crossed !!!!)

A brilliant addition to the already amazing list !! ....... who's next ?? :)

In fact I seriously need some Garavitar again: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=191467&page=4

Man, I think that is the first time ever I put a top score on a cab that lasted longer than a day in a real arcade :):):). And being it there at the largest arcade in the world, the place where world records are broken is pretty cool :)

@Polder, impressive list !!!

Gee the Outrunners are lighter than the Hard Drivin' !!! But we sure needed three people to get that on the trailer....hope we can solve it by that time !

Will work it out I hope, plans for a arcade loading/unloading elevator are here already in planning for a while.
Only need people ad location for unloading

lighter than the Hard Drivin' , damn, but that is possible to load whit two persons ;)

The wheat isn’t the problem but the size and the way we need to load it on the trailer
So the cap needs to be lifted totally normally its possible to lift a part of a cap and leaf a part on the trailer or floor,
and then its possible to load unload whit two persons

Yes, our famous "loading dock" ;)

I just watched one of Bruno's videos and I counted 28 video games and 6 pinball machines.....last year... (not including the wall machines)

We already have more video games promised right now but KEEP THEM COMING !!!!

We also know that there will also be a number of promised cabs that can't make it in the end for one or the other reason. Also.....we only have 2 pinballs now.

I'd like to talk about priorities a bit...

Eurocade is (and will be) an event MAINLY targeted at the Classic Arcade Videogames (1975-1989). SO, our first choice will alway be for machines in this category. The priority list is somewhat like this:

Classic Arcade Videogames (1975-1989)
Still space ? then add:
any other dedicated Arcade Videogames from other ages.
Still space ? then add:
Pinballs (any age)
Still space ? .......forget it, we won't have more space...

So, this means that if anyone promised a pinball but it turns out we can fill the room with Classic and non-classic video games, the pinballs are kindly rejected....
(It sounds odd to write this now already).

In the hall-way we have a very long cabinet on which wall-machines can be installed, but none have been offered yet. Also some home computer/home console stuff MAY be put there (space allowing, first come first serve).
Normally we wouldn't encourage home stuff for the simple reason that this is an ARCADE game thing. There are already plenty of homecomputer/console retro fairs throughout Europe already and we think we should keep focus to the "core values".

For the same reason, we decided not to have candy machines. There is no unity within the Eurocade crew about this though. Everyone is entitled to his opinion, but I feel that the majority of visitors of Eurocade are also member of this forum. If I look at this forum, candy machines play NO role or VERY minimal. If I remember last year's visitors, the ONE thing that bonded all visitors was the love for the classic arcade video games. That some people also love candy cabs, handhelds and for my part, collecting stamps, is all fine, but we all share that one love mentioned before....

If we had unlimited space, there would be no reasons for the priority list and we could have welcomed all kinds of machines but we can't. In all honesty, I am not all unhappy about the building being somewhat limited because trust me, the crew has it hands full with "just" those machines .....

For the handhelds a special mention: I know there are guys who love these, however for the same reasons mention above, the crew has decided to NOT have a hand-held section. We simply lack the space PLUS we fear that these tiny things can easily get "lost". Even though it's an event for registered people only, we cannot guard the building 100% of the time. We do not want these precious things to disappear...

Some may mention that there would be space in the bar area for the handhelds, however, the crew _is_ unanimous that the bar area should be kept free of games. We don't know what the weather will be this year and everyone loved to have an area to go to have a bit of a rest from all the game noises and visuals and be able to meet each other and have some nice chats face to face and have a drink and/or some food in a relaxed atmosphere...

Also, that area will be once again the "dining room" for the buffet...
Like last year, the game room will be shut down at exactly 18.00 hrs for about 45 minutes so we can all enjoy the buffet :)

SOooooo...that's it, a lot of text, and I'm sure some will not agree or would have preferred to see things differently, but this is like it is...

Blanka, I do hope you can bring the Vectrex for the hall-area !!!

Oh, one more thing: just like for small things: EVERYTHING you bring into the building will always remain at YOUR OWN RISK ! The Eurocade team, nor the marching-band who owns the building can be held responsible for any damage or missing of your personal belongings ! By ENTERING the building you agree to this !

Like last year, we will not admit people who are not registered to the building but we are not police officers/security guards and cannot guarantee that some person can slip through....

Last year there were ZERO problems, but use your common sense. Don't let cameras, phones, wallets and other valuable stuff "floating" around in the building....

Thanks for your patience guys !! Now, we can still handle MORE classic machines, get them on the list !  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Great initiative again Andre, last year was fabulous!

We from Nozomi would like to attend again ;)

Are the cabs I brought last year still welcome? :

Nintendo Red Tent
Tabletop Lunacade machine

We can also try our best to bring a twin Sega racer like Daytona or Scud Race

For now we have a single Scud Race, but untill that time we'll definitely have a twin racer.
We're very busy building our own Arcade in Zuid-Holland so untill that time we'll have some nice stuff we
can bring I hope. Let me know Andre and I'll spread the word on the forum and more people from our forum can attend!

Cheers,

Hasan

I prefer Turkish Pizza over Turkish Delight.....;)

Realistically, budget wise we will have to "copy-paste" the same food as last year (no I dont mean heating up the stack of left-overs ;);))

Butttttttttt if you have another suggestion I am all ears Hasan ! :):)

About the cabs: As always, the preference list applies. I think the machines can be fit in, but should true classics be offered and we run out of space we will have to see how we can solve that. note that Scud and especially Daytona are "modern" classics IMHO.

We have a fully working Scud Twin now  :spaceace: and soon a Twin Daytona, but just let me know by that time if they're welcome. I understand
your opininon on classic or not, these are a bit in the middle of things, not new and not really old, although Daytona is nearly 20 years old now and still rockin'  :spaceace:

Helllooooooooo....long time no news here......

It was very hard for us to find a date for a meeting of the Eurocade team. One particular member I will not mention further found it necessary to go to a big country on the other side of the pool and spoil time at weird places like arcade museums and bars and others had even worse lame excuses but finally we fixed a date which is coming weekend..... ;D ;D ;D ;D

Now.....I'm a bit out of the loop myself. First of all I had a very busy first half of the year at work. Had a couple of medium to large new fire alarms to be commissioned and tested
(http://www.ziggodome.nl (well actually the parking garage under it plus the office tower next to it....), https://www.deloitte.com/view/nl_NL/nl/da20092493584310VgnVCM2000001b56f00aRCRD.htm,
another Parking garage in Roermond and above all:
http://www.heembouw.nl/index.php/werk-in-uitvoering/overig/corpus-hotel-oegstgeest.html )

and had some health things to deal with with my son, my wife and myself...

Anyway ....this resulted in a bit less focus on Eurocade as last year BUT that doesn't mean it's going to get less.......quite the opposite in fact, it is going to be BETTER than Eurocade 2012 ! :)

But.....I need all of you guys to help out. How ? Simple: Come over and bring a cab ! Many people have already enlisted. Especially the people who were there last year were the first one's to again commit to coming because they simply don't want to miss it ! :)

This already resulted in an impressive list, a list that would already bypass the number of machines we had last year, but I remember that a lot of machines were enlisted quite late last year....

Anyway...I need to update the list.... So, can you all please check the list and if there are any changes please inform me so I can refresh it.

Also....if you have anything we should discuss on the meeting coming weekend then please post it here (or PM me.)

Thanks friends !!!

Don't forget to clean out the horse poo before loading cabs !  ;D ;D

Some serious info:

We had a meeting with the Eurocade crew last saturday and discussed a number of things.

The most practical is that you will NOT get a personalized ticket this year that you need to print at home.
The reason is that we found it too formal and it's simply too much work to create and then e-mail them for every individual.

So, this year you ONLY MUST register (like last year) by sending an e-mail or PM to me.
You can also simply post it in this thread of course but if you are coming for the first time please PM me with your address, e-mail and phone number.

If you were there last year we still have your info, no need for the same info again unless something changed (like e-mail address or phone numbers).
We will put you on the list.

Once you arrive please look for Pieter (Gyruss), the guy with the longest hair on the arcade crew and "report" to him.
He'll check the list, receive the €20 per person and hand you a badge on which your forum and real name will be written by hand.

Please wear this badge visible. One of the most annoying things IMHO at these meetings is not knowing who is who, while we know each other from the forums already !

Also: you will only get drinks/food if you show your badge !

The reason for this is that we will have people from the band at night time (like last year) and some family/other visitors) who do not pay the 20 Euro so they will have to pay for their drinks/food. They cannot (and will not) join in at the evening meal. Of course bar personnel is excepted from this. Any of those visitors will be "kindly pushed" to drop some money in the "PONGy BANK" if they enjoyed the games...

Again regarding the drinks: please bring some if you can. A nice mix of beer/non alcohol like last year was excellent. It really made it possible to keep thing financially balanced. Remember that Belike will be arriving by plane and thus cannot bring any drinks this time.

That's it for now !

I don't know if there is a flight to "Rotterdam Airport" depending on the day and time, i can pick you from the airport, its very close to Ridderkerk.

Would be great if you can make it !

There are a couple of options.

The closest airport is The Hague/Rotterdam airport but I'm not sure if there are direct flights from Edinburgh to Rotterdam, and if they are they might be more expensive.

The main Dutch airport is of course Schiphol which has by far the most international connections. Travel from Schiphol to Eurocade is about an hour by car.

The travel by public transport from Schiphol to Eurocade location is a little over 1.5 hours. One way the travel price should be less than 15 euro.
You can plan your trip by public transport here: http://9292.nl/en
It covers ALL public transport, trains, busses etc. Note that you may have to buy fairs for train and bus separatly, I'm not sure about that.

Taxi prices are pretty insane here for a long drive like that, think renting a car is cheaper.

Regretfully the suggested Van Der Valk Hotel is not easy to reach by public transport. If you come I suggest travel to Eurocade location first, you probably can drive to the hotel with one of the people staying there.
You may need to check in for a certain time though, check that with the hotel on reservation please.

Alternatively a taxi from train station Rotterdam-Lombardijen will cost you maximum €11.50. The distance is 3.2 km so you could walk there if you feel like it...

There is a third airport that maybe interesting and that is Eindhoven airport. Ryanair uses it intensely and as you know they are very cheap. However Eindhoven airport doesn't have a train station so you will have to take a bus to the train station and from there by train to Rotterdam-Lombardijen. I think travel to Eurocade would be about 2 hours that way. By car it's 1 hour 15 minutes.

Cheers guys. Appreciate the offer Etienne... will PM you.  ;)

Would it be worth coming on the Friday... will you all be around... or best to arrive on the Saturday and head back on the Sunday?

Friday is set up day and at least the crew will be around (Etienne, CKONG, Gyruss, RobinHolland and I). Further I expect other members to arrive on the Friday already like last year but not sure who. I think it will be worthwhile, we can use all the help available and of course the games need some testing too ;). Althought we don't make it too late Friday night, it's still a load of fun :) You're welcome of course !

Once you arrive please look for Pieter (Gyruss), the guy with the longest hair on the arcade crew and "report" to him.
He'll check the list, receive the €20 per person and hand you a badge on which your forum and real name will be written by hand.

What if PRC is all ready there - will he receive €20 and hand you a hand writtin badge? ::) ;D

Or even worse: I am already there, hand over a handwritten 20€ and receive a badge with the longest hair of the arcade crew  I have to consider to arrive on saturday. Being early in this case is a bad idea.

Can anyone who booked a room for the Van Der Valk hotel already please let me know if they charged you "tourist taxes" ? Also if you still have to book, let me know about this please...

I just read an article in the local newspaper that they had an agreement with the city so they did not have to pay the tax to the city (they would subsidize local cultural stuff for 35000 Euro instead....maybe we can get some of it ?) so I am really curious if they _do_ charge it to their customers.....I know it's just a couple of Euro's but as you can see it's a lot of money for them/the city.

Mmm...first of all Van Der Valk has completely changed their site and so my links from Eurocade.eu are not working anymore. I'll fix that ASAP. However, they also seem to have changed strategy because I can't book a "Last Minute" for september anymore (it looks like REAL last minute deals now....)

However, the amount you mention IS without the tourist tax. The "bare" price (incl. VAT) was €115 for 1 room (2 persons) for 2 nights so it looks like they are honest.....this time ;)

Guys, it is with great pride I present you the new logo for Eurocade 2012:

Big thanks go to ChrisChris for designing it !!!

We, the Eurocade team, felt that this logo truly captures what it is about: the video arcade machine in 8-bit graphics on the left says it all. The look of a "used old somewhat crumbled piece of carton" fits perfectly to the theme too.

A variation of this logo will be used on promotion materials. This variation will not have a date and location so that we can use it for (all) future Eurocades.

I also updated the website www.eurocade.eu so that it will connect to the Van Der Valk Hotel website again. They have re-arranged their website and way of booking, but the good news is that the prices have remained the same as last year. IMHO, comparing to a lot of hotel prices I see all over Europe I think this price is absolutely great for this room, hotel and breakfast.

It's only 54 days until Eurocade. I would like the people who have not yet uncovered the cab that they will be bringing to do so ASAP (either by PM or post here). The reason is that knowing what games will be there is a clear attraction point for visitors. I know some people may come especially to play a certain game, or it may give them just that final push to decide and come....

The same for people who are not certain yet to come. Last year (on top of all the other "last minute" work I got quite a phew messages of "latecomers" in the last week before Eurocade. I realize that some of you can really not know if they can make it until the last "minute" but even if you are not 100% sure, please register now. It's easier for us to have a complete list where some people might not show up than having to add people in the last days....

Thanks for understanding !!!

Also......we still have room for more cabs !!!! We have seen a lot of new members on this great forum the last 6 months so do not hesitate to register !

How ? Send me a PM with your Avatar (=username here), full name, address, mobile phone number and what (if) cab(s) you will bring and we will put you on the list. If you really don't have a cab or no way to bring it but love this hobby you are still very welcome !

Three more news items on which we will give more info a bit later:
1) there will be a (small) competition
2) we plan to organize a raffle
3) there _will_ be a piggy bank again this year. We know that the majority wanted to have an "all inclusive" entry price, and that is also what we have now. However, some of you guys already told us we were crazy to offer all this good stuff for just 20 Euro. These people are free to donate some extra cash. Also there will be non-registered people from my music club (etc) who are "gently invited" to contribute a bit too.
The money will of course only be used to cover costs of Eurocade. Should there be anything left we will probably invest it in getting some decoration for the next Eurocade.
If things go well, Etienne's brilliant Pong model will be the "Pongy bank" ;)

Enough for now....

>>> NEWSFLASH <<<

We are extremely proud and excited to let you know that Aart van Vliet, official World Record holder on Galaxian will attempt to set a NEW WORLD RECORD at Eurocade 2012 !!!

Most of you know that Aart was our guest at Eurocade 2011 and we were able to witness some mind-blowing gameplay by him on the most brilliant NAMCO shooter ever...
Apart from this, Aart turned out to be about a really nice guy and we had some nice talk during Eurocade and then we popped the question (sorry, I forgot who it was) if he would be willing to try his own record on home ground and to our joy he agreed !

The Eurocade team feels that this is an excellent combination of events. It means a lot of great publicity for Eurocade and of course Aart will have a great setting to push his record even further.

The details still need to be worked out. It looks like we will give him a good spot in the bar area (this will be the only game there) so the visitors will be able to follow his progress. We will put the gameplay on the beamer so everyone can follow clearly.

Of course we want the record to be officially recognized by TwinGalaxies so we are communicating with them to sort this out.

I hope you guys are as excited as we are !  ;D ;D ;D :spaceace: :spaceace: :space ace:

I still have a video of him playing Galaxian somewhere in my HDD. Right time to publish it?  :P

Friends,

I have updated the site. First of all I added some games. Next I added a page with the WR Galaxian info.

Further....and this is important ! => YOU CAN NOW REGISTER BY FILLING OUT A FORM ON THE SITE.

This is the page where you can register:

http://www.eurocade.eu/Eurocade/Info_%26_Registration.html

Please note that by registering you accept all the info and rules as mentioned below the form (and agree with the entry price of 20 Euro per person).

For those who already registered here through a PM to me there is no need to register again, but if you want you _can_ do it so we have all the info in one central place.

We believe that this makes registration for Eurocade a lot easier.

REPEATED REQUEST => PLEASE DO NOT WAIT TILL THE LAST WEEKS TO REGISTER !!!!  Better register now and cancel later (if you really have to).

Also....please keep those cabs coming ! The whole idea about Eurocade is people bringing THEIR cabs. Without that, Eurocade is NOTHING. PLEASE let us know what cabs you plan to bring ASAP.
A game name is MUCH more attracting than "MR.X's cab" in the list.....      THANKS !!!

Yes Bruno, seeing the extremely low numbers of responses I really hope you can change this in some way. We had much more responses going on last year when the main Eurocade thread was not in it's own Child section. Again, the idea of a child section was good, but I feel it back-fired on us.......

If a hard core member like Muerto already misses the updates, then how about the less experienced visitors here !!!!

The child board has a too small font and is very easily overlooked and,as Muerto mentions you can't see if there are any new postings.

Maybe there can be a seperate button on the top or something ?

Muerto, to stay completely up to date on this forum I always use "Show unread posts since last visit" which is on top of the page. In fact I made this my bookmark to the forum so I will always see which threads have been updated since my last visit.

Hey guys, I was wondering if it wolud be possible to have a bring and buy kinda thing?
I happened to get a lot of classic pcb's just lately and maybe you could have some sort of stand where people bring their boards or other arcade related stuff.
I'd be willing to pay a certain fee or precentage for the boards sold at the event.

This way it'll be some extra income for the event and the buyer and seller would
have direct contact on the spot. I could certainly fill a full table with my shizzle I want to sell ;)

It is a nice indeed and we actually discussed the very same idea, problem is manning the stand...Or do we trust eachother enough to leave it unmanned and "self service"? In that case it would be at everyone's own risk to put stuff there. I think it's better to put up things you have for sale here in the special "Eurocade trade" thread, quite a few bits and pieces exchanged that way last year. Still open for the stand idea though but we can't put someone behind it all day long...

I am also very happy to add Bomjac from the UK to the list of visitor ! He has booked his flight so I think it's about 100% sure he'll be here :) Regretfully KLM doesn't allow him to take a cab in his carry-on luggage but he will compensate he told me ;) Looking forward to meet !

I saw your shizzle last Saturday at NGC, that doesn't fit on a table, you would need the entire room!   ;D

but please leave enough room in your van for one or two cabs!

Hahaha, I can take that task if you want guys, but let's say untill a certain time. Let's say from 12.00 till 15.00 hours or so, just as reference.

Of course I won't bring it all Erik, I'll still have to test alot and will only bring what fits the Eurocade crowd.

Like I said I can man the table for a couple of hours and then enjoy the event of course plus I think a fee of 10% is more then fair for everybody that sells his or her shizzle at the event!

Think about and let me know ;)

We are welcoming Noël [Hi] as returning visitor to Eurocade 2012 !

Still plenty of space for more people.

Want to make clear that if you are not able to bring a cab, you are _Still_ welcome to Eurocade.
Of course we DO try to get as many people as possible to bring cabs, but it is -not- a firm demand.

If you come by plane or your car is too small, we understand...

No problem I would say, Muerto can bring another cab, right ?

The trouble is that The Shed is packed atm, so i cant get to all my machines without moving stuff around, which will take forever....

The games i can get to is:

Neo Geo
Time Pilot (in the Fast Freddie cab)
Play Choice 10 (didnt get much play at EC11)

My vote vould go to the Neo Geo, with Puzzle Bobble and Neo Bomberman (2 really great games) but i can bring all my Neo Geo cartridges so we can swap games....:

Samurai Showdown (fighter game crap)
Puzzle Bobble
Neo Bomberman
Spinmaster
Metal Slug
Metal Slug 4
Alpha Mission 2
Magician Lord

Yep! Would be awsome (although it's pretty new school ;)). I can bring my carts (about 50), too ... if neccessary. If Puzzle Bobble is in there, all other games are obsolete anyway ;)

AND I will bring my ICB then. Hope the 1800 tickets remaining in there are enough to cover the day. I will also prepare some prices. Tickets without prices are like having a party and no drinks and music.

The restauration of my Video Pinball is not really making progress though :( Maybe I will have to exchange that cab with another (yes, I will bring two cabs this year :)). Amidar is ready to go or maybe the most beautiful Universal cab: Cosmic Alien??
Title: Re: >>> EUROCADE 2012 <<< 1 september 2012, Ridderkerk, The Netherlands
Post by: level42 on August 04, 2012, 02:50:52 PM
Neo Geo sounds fine to me....but 50 carts ? :) I don't think we should change carts all the time ;)

Metal Slug is a brill game IMHO and of course Puzzle Bobble.

We are very happy with ANY game brought (as long as it fits into the well-known priority list.... ;D)

A choice between Amidar and Cosmic Alien is pretty hard. On one hand, Cosmic Alien is one of the nicest looking cabs ever with brilliant artwork. On the other Amidar is the better game IMHO. But that is just one opinion and because I initiated Eurocade doesn't mean I call the shots when it comes to the games that are brought, that is of course up to the owners of the machines :)

Speaking of ICB......but actually this is true for any game:

Give your fellow visitors a chance to play the game you are playing too.

No-one has a problem if you do a couple (3 maybe 4) of games in a row, but don't go "hugging" one machine for hours so that others do not get the chance to play it. (Only exception is Aart on the Galaxian ;))
Not everybody is bold enough to keep standing to wait or even ask if they can get a turn now....and that shouldn't be necessary.

I'm not aware of this happening at Eurocade last year but I have seen it at some other parties... IMHO it is simply decent and common sense to share the play-time...

We thought it was time for some reminders/additional info:

- Remember that the entry price for Eurocade 2012 is €20 per person. The reason why it's so much higher than last year is that we wanted an "all in" price. The price includes attending Eurocade with loads of great classic arcade games, soft and low alcohol drinks in reasonable amounts, lunch (various rolls, also our famous Dutch snacks) and soup, and our "famous" buffet at 18.00 hrs. with something to eat for all.

We felt this was a more fair system than "dragging" with the piggy bank like last year. Yes there STILL will be a Piggy Bank in the form of Etienne's wonderful Pong model, but this is really for those who feel Eurocade needs some extra cash to do even more great stuff in 2013..... ;)

- to be able to give all that for this low price, we do depend on visitors to bring in some soft/low alcohol drinks like last year, this really helped us cover the costs

- please remember to set your game to Free Play BEFORE Eurocade. If your game cannot be set to Freeplay please inform us UPFRONT by mail/PM.  We can hook up a special credit button to your coin door. This is NOT damaging anything and can be removed very easily again. We do NOT want players to have to open up coin doors and find credit switches....

Happy we can add Arcadegek, Joeks and Vnera + Friend to the list of visitors, welcome (again :)) !

Arcadegek is not 100% sure yet but I'm sure he'll try everything to make it :)

Got a question about bringing along husbands/wifes/girlfriends/boyfriends/kids/other friends. Of course they are most welcome (within reasonable numbers) !
Naturally, for every adult we have to ask the entry fee of €20,- because of the costs of drinks, food, rent and electricity :).

Kids are free.

One thing about kids (and note I have a son too !!): We love kids and we definitely have the goal to at least TRY to make them want to keep our machines running once we are strolling behind our push-carts (or whatever they are named) but there are two important things to keep in mind:

1) It's no play-ground/kindergarden. No running/shouting etc. please. The machines are extremely valuable and plenty of them have parts that can't be replaced, not for ANY money.....also everyone wants to play in a pleasant and comfy environment
2) We (the Eurocade team) are no guards. We expect parents to keep an eye on their kids at all times (and that's pretty hard when you're intensively playing a game). We really don't want to get in nasty situations where damage happens to any of the machines. So please if the kids are very young and cannot be expected to understand the value of the machines, it's really better to not bring them unless you constantly want to watch them...you know your kid best so we expect you to make a wise decision. I am sure it won't be needed, but should it be necessary we will ask you (and your kid) to leave when they show no respect for the machines, no money returned.

I know this all sounds very strict BUT we feel that we must do everything in our power to prevent any possible damage to the machines !

People will bring their nice (sometimes their most valuable) machines in the trust that they will be handled with respect. Let's not discourage them for the future !

Thanks for understanding :)

Absolutely, and it get's greater and greater !!!

We have found another sponsor !

Beeld & Geluid (Sound & Vision) has kindly offered to use their truck with tail-gate lift to transport cabs from Gyruss and my location to the Eurocade location and back for FREE !!!!

This means that a huge chunk of the available games will not have to be loaded on "scary" micro-trailers or high and toe-breaking HUGE trailers. This will also prevent any rain damage, should the weather be a bit less nice than last year......

The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision ('Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid') is a cultural-historical organization of national interest. It collects, preserves and opens the audiovisual heritage for as many users as possible: media professionals, education, science and the general public. In addition, the institute develops and disseminates knowledge in the area of audiovisual archiving, digitization and media history.

It's a great building and an awesome place to visit with the entire family as I have experienced in person !!!

The SLG3000 is the famous Scanline Generator that will (re)produce the original scanlines that is so typical for classic arcade videogame monitors, but is lacking when using a modern day VGA monitor for f.i. MAME.

Finally have some time to start planning for eurocade
Having some problems whit cabs I should bring.
-----------------------
Konami  jet wave trying to fix the game a idiot (me) completely destroy the electric motor and it will be a expensive / impossible fix ,for now it’s put in the storage corner.
So it’s not possible to bring to eurocade
-----------------------
Outruners lost sound completely and not possible to fix at the moment and the weight of the cab is getting a bic problem
So it’s not possible to bring to eurocade
-----------------------
Alien 3 same as outruners extremely heavy end hard to load end not realy fiting the eurocade  style to new
So it’s not possible to bring to eurocade
-----------------------

But I don’t want to come empty handed so if you guys agree whit it I want to bring:
Atari Bad lands / Atari vindicators ,games in polderarcade condition not looking great (outside of the cab )but good playable
And if the weather is oke I want to bring hang-on dlx on the trailer
Also will bring the pins
Goldwings fix a broken ramp this week is oke now
Jungle lord burned a connector last Saturdays party will be a easy fix and be done before eurocade :)

Sorry for the last minute chances but really busy whit not arcade related stuff so I hope you will not be to much disipointed

And the last thing ,the same like last year’s eurocade it is on the same date as one of the best partys of the year(wilde zwijnen bal) so for us we will leaf the party around nine to pick up the cabs Sunday
Something not clear let me know

Pretty cool that the Gamekings/Power Unlimited people reviewed it, they're by far the biggest gaming medium in The Netherlands and they are very positive about the product.

MOOOOORRRRRREEEEE great news !!!!

We have found a sponsor who wanted to support Eurocade by getting some good advertising on www.eurocade.eu through a banner: it is the famous www.arcadeshop.de from Germany !

Arcadeshop.de sells lots and lots of arcade parts for MAME cabinets, candy cabs and of course classic arcade machines.
Buttons, switches, PSU's, joysticks, locks, EPROMS, you name it, they got it.
They ship worldwide !

Arcadeshop supports Eurocade financially and offers yet another prize.....yes prize....you know...something you can win...something very nice you can win.... ;D

"Last year there was a little event called EuroCade11 - it was setup by a group of hardcore/dedicated arcade collectors, the event was not a success - it was a complete wipeout!!!
This year the same organizers try to put their preivous attempt to shame, - and indeed they will succeed!..."

OK guys....things are heating up....that is, not the temperature here, but it's only 10 more days until Eurocade 2012 !!!!

Time for some necessary practical things:

MOST IMPORTANT ONE =====>>>

Last year I had a number of registrations in the very LAST week before Eurocade. Although I will do what I can to get you on the list, PLEASE register NOW. The last week up to Eurocade is EXTREMELY busy for us so please help.

1) PLEASE can everybody who did NOT visit last year register through our web-form (if you haven't done already)
http://www.eurocade.eu/Eurocade/Info_%26_Registration.html

Even if you PMed or emailed me you will be coming, it is much easier to work from the webform data for me to create the list of visitors. If you bring guests/family, please provide names and Avatar names on the several forums.
Without an e-mail address I can NOT send you the address of Eurocade's location !!!

2) Check your game before departure. If it's not on Free Play, please change that before leaving. It if can't be set to Free Play, please inform me by PM so we can temporarily mount a free play switch on your coin-door (no damage guaranteed !!!)

3) Be sure your game will be able to plug into German-style mains sockets. French type plugs will sometimes fit, depends on the power strips we have at hand, but mostly will not. If you bring a French type plug machine, please bring an adapter or powerstrip that can handle both types.

4) PLEASE be on time. Eurocade starts early because we want to make the most of the single day it lasts !!! Eurocade officially opens it doors at 10.00 in the morning. If you are earlier, we are there from about 9.00, esp. if you bring a cab that would be great. However, if you can't make it that early, PLEASE be there before 12.00hr. The reason is that we will start the Galaxian World Record try around that time and also the prize competition for the visitors so the Eurocade crew will have it's hands full.

5) When you arrive, please report to Pieter (glasses, long hair, Eurocade Crew shirt), he'll be mostly on the front of the entry to the building during the early hours so it will be hard to miss him ;)

6) HAVE A SAFE TRIP, KEEP IT CHEAP, DON'T OVERSPEED.  Speeding tickets are insanely high in The Netherlands and there are lots of camera's (fixed and mobile) everywhere, plus cameras that check your speed across a long(er) distance....

7) Remember, entry fee is 20 Euro per adult (kids free), PLEASE have the exact amount of money with you in cash as we will have only very limited exchange money (if any ;)) We cannot accept any digital form of payment.

FRIENDS !!

I have updated the list of visitors and games right here:

https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=3350.0

Please go over it if you have PMed, e-mailed or filled in the form on Eurocade.eu and CHECK THAT YOU ARE ON THE LIST ! If not, contact me right away to fix it ! :)

AFAIK I haven't missed anyone but I am only human. Also if you are on the list and already know you won't be there, please let me know too !
Also, if you bring a friend or family "in the last minute" PLEASE lets me know too.

We now have 50 visitors which is FABULOUS !!! We can still squeeze in a couple of you so if you want to come let me know ASAP but AT LEAST BEFORE SUNDAY 26 AUGUST !

We have 41 videogames promissed to be there and 3 pinballs. This is more than last year ! Here too, we can still squeeze in a couple of games so contact me if you can bring something.

If you are listed in BLUE I am missing a part of your information for your registration, ususally e-mail address, home address and phone nr. Please use the form on the site to pass me the info: http://eurocade.eu/Eurocade/Info_%26_Registration.html

The games listed in BLUE I cannot remember who will be bringing them, please post here or PM if you see your cab without name :) Thanks !

Looks like we need some more outlets than last year..

I have a 12 and a 5 in the car already, one of 10 you got already, and i have another 10 in my pc cabinet here

thats 37, but some will be interconnected, so i think we need some more...

I dont have more than that ..

Yes if people can bring some strips that would be great but PLEASE mark them with your names.

There are some hasps and strips at the location too. And I don't think we need to power the "long cabinet" in the hall this year as no wall-machines etc. will be there (AFAIK).

Since my effords to fix the Video Pinball in time for Eurocade will be fruitless again, I will bring Amidar (besides the fabolous ICB of course) instead, if that is ok with you.  :-[

Other alternatives would be After Burner II, Hang On or Cosmic Alien. I think Amidar is still the best choice because it's a really great game!

OK hope you can make it !!

Guys, next week we will have done already the most of the transformation from a rehearsel room to an "arcade" at the Eurocade location.

I will be sending out the e-mails with all required info to the people who registered this weekend.

I wanted to state that the preparations for Eurocade 2012 have been one amazing roller-coaster ride....

When I asked the guys of the Eurocade crew for EC2011 little did I know what a brilliant team they would make together.
A great team has different kind of people, with different talents but one common goal.

You would not believe the amount of e-mails I have seen going in and out my mailbox for so many things to arrange. It was almost like spam sometimes :) I also wondered at one point how we would have organized this _without_ e-mail.
You won't believe how much time is needed in the preparations.

Anyway, I want to thank Robin, Erik, Etienne, Pieter and Chris for their time, dedication, enthusiasm and passion to make Eurocade 2012 rock.

Most of it you will see once you get there. I find it incredible to think that I started the idea of Eurocade last year only and that I initially planned it in my back-yard, and if I look at how professionally we have managed it this year...it is amazing.

Robin & Erik, Robin our technical man, preparing f.i. the Galaxian hardware so that it is exactly what Aart wants and Erik being our CFO, keeping an eye on the money and doing general support. Big thanks !

This year we were lucky to find Chris willing to design a totally awesome logo for Eurocade and this in a period that he was doing the work for 2 man in his start-up business. He came up with the basic ideas and he was insanely patient with all the suggestions we gave back. Sometimes great things happened. At one point I noted we didn't have a web-adress on the logo, so we thought about a "general" logo without the year. I suggested it would be cool to have some Berzerk robots on the right side on the logo. Chris tried it but it didn't work out like I had imagined. Then he came up with the Space Invaders that were bombing the EU letters which we all found was a brilliant idea.
He did much more design work than this, but that you will see on sept. 1.

Etienne kept things running between him and Chris, taking care that everything will be printed on time, coming up with his ever brilliant McGyver ideas (f.i. for this years visitor passes) and of course the most insanely great piggy-bank/donation pot ever. Apart from this he arranged a lot of "hardware" and print stuff through his "relations".

Pieter did some magic arrangements like getting a free van with tail-gate lift and the sponsors for this year's edition. When I thought..."We can try but I don't see it happening", he succeeded ! He also did all the communications to press and TV (sometimes even in person...). Wether they will pick it up or not, we'll see, but at least he is daring to try !

The amazing thing is that everything goes in the best spirits and we never got into any argument about things. Or maybe, that isn't amazing at all  ;D

You guys all rock and I couldn't have wished for a better team for sure and wanted to already say "THANK YOU !!!!" and "LET'S GO" ! for next friday :)

Thanks for linking my interview with Aart into this thread and on the Eurocade 2012 page. Aart pointed me in the direction of you guys before the interview. I really enjoyed reading about the 2011 event, I was very impressed with what you put on so I felt it only right it got a mention in the interview.

This year looks like it will top last's years event - The Galaxian W.R. attempt was a stroke of genius - I hope it brings you a lot of positive publicity.

Have a blast all of you next weekend - it's a great looking list of Games already.

Finally Good luck (sm)Aarty pants with the W.R. attempt! I'll be checking in via the live stream for sure.

Hi Julian !

Welcome here and thanks for mentioning Eurocade in the interview and your kind words ! :)
I was also very proud to read that Aart liked how well my Galaxian plays  ;D

Maybe you can write a piece about Eurocade 2012 ?  ;D

We did a little testing today and that was a good idea as we learned a couple of things that did and didn't work out as we hoped.
We will (have to) fix that before friday   :ghost:

At least we luckily had the CORRECT ROM set that Aart wants to play and also the one that he played at Fun Spot during his World Record.
It is also the "official" version that is set to 3 Galaxip and a bonus Galaxip at 7000 points.

We also tested the UPS (Uninterruptible Power Source) succesfully. It first had to charge the batteries but I tested it about half an hour ago. Pulling the plug didn't crash the game, tried it several times and it made the Galaxian run fine without mains power.

I tested how long it would last and let's say that it gives us a minute or 5 to replace any blown fuses in the electricity circuit, should that be the cause of any outage. We'd need a more powerful UPS if we want it to run longer than that (or maybe the batteries weren't entirely full yet) but the place is not that big and 5 minutes should be enough. The UPS starts beeping when mains fails, so we can't miss it for sure...

At least it gives it protection against surges and spikes and a short mains outage....I still wonder why about any WR attempt I have seen is done without one of these....esp. in the US where mains problems are much more often happening, then again you must be lucky enough to have access to one of these ;)

We also adjusted the fire button a tiny bit to make it perfect (or close to perfect).

Regarding the streaming we will have to find another solution than the tablet hanging on the grill of the speaker of the cab. The thing is that the stream sometimes seems to stop for no apparent reason. We of course cannot "reset" that while Aart is playing next saturday, so I think we will have to go back to the initial plan of a separate camera and a computer to do the streaming.

Here's a picture of today...

(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7125/7866524978_fe266856ab_b.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/level_42/7866524978/)
Untitled (http://www.flickr.com/photos/level_42/7866524978/) by Level_42 (http://www.flickr.com/people/level_42/), on Flickr

Looks pretty great.....who will beat who....man or machine..... ;D

We will be putting black foil to the windows (behind the curtains) so the place will be a lot darker than this and also dress up the area nicely...man those curtains are ugly !

I haven't met many World Champions (saw some on film though..........) and I must say Aart must be one of the kindest around  :spaceace:

Man,  I love Aart´s hoodie, have to ask him next week where he got it.

But I´m happy that the tests today brought some new info, and it was great to watch it over ustream.

And I will take care of dark plastic sheets for the windows.

That UPS is only a 700 AFAIR..

I wanted to bring the 1500, but there was a problem with the battery check part, it randomly "alarms" that the batteries are bad, even after we replaced those with new ones, so thats not reliable..

And the other that we have in use now (APC 8000 XL) was a bit too heavy in weight (110KG without the extra battery pack  :o) to carry  ;D

That has a bit longer runtime...  last time i measured it could support 50 minutes with all 8 servers, 4 switches and SAN running..

Enough off topic, 5 minutes should be enough to cover "normal" trouble.

Yep, the only thing we can solve ourselves in case of an outage is replacing the mains fuse. 5 minutes is plenty for that.

Just had a look at the Eurocade 2011 thread. If I kept the list updated enough these are the differences:

Visitors 2011: 39 (subtracted those on the list but didn't show up)
Visitors 2012: 50 enlisted....:)

Videogames 2011: 31
Videogames 2012: 41   :)

Pinballs 2011: 5
Pinballs 2012: 3

All in all, a healthy growth without loosing the cosy atmosphere I'm sure !  :spaceace: :spaceace:

A HUGE thank you for all registering to come, traveling from all over Europe and bringing cabs.....you guys ROCK !!!

Yes...all that but alas:

Got my personal sponsor  I can take the van from work so transportation is easier for me.
Also got my own drivers license now (last year not yet)
So I don’t have to really on other people.
Question to the crew from witch time  is it possible to bring cabs on Friday?
I will try to bring them al, or at least the pins because they take some time to set up and makes stuff easier for me on Saturday

after all the good news here's some bad: The Outrun Mini won't be there..  :(

Tried my best but there is still a problem with the steering of the car (movement only to the left) and a new issue (broken steering wheel screw, only 2 left) came up... sorry about this but i'll bring enough other cabs for you guys to enjoy!  ;)

It is not possible, but Etienne can apply a nice hack to add credits easily.

Thanks, this is my dad's webcam....el cheapo Logitech, 640x480 which I guess causes the gloweing sprites.

BUT at least I FINALLY have the whole picture and I am happy !!! Mounted the webcam inside the marquee area looking down the speaker hole ! :)

Yeah....starting to remember..... Yes Popeye is 4 way, but I do already have a 4 way stick on the left position. However I'd have to wire up and down.
But I already found out that the biggest problem is that my cab is set up with the small flat-cable connectors, but the Popeye is edge connector.....

too bad...

Popeye ROCKS !

yes, since DK3 its edgeconnector..
so no it will not go in your cab..
Or.... your cab has a converter installed, but because its an old radarscope, i dont think it has that..

I have one of those adapter boards from Mark Spaeth. He said it was for the other way around, but since it's only electical leads, why wouldn't it work the other way ?

Could give it a try...

If so that should work....we'd "only" need to wire the up and down from the joystick.....

Hi All,

I fear, I won't get the SLAM II (4-Player Pong Table) working, that I intended to bring to EUROCADE.

We have two options instead:
1. Asteroids Cocktail - http://www.andysarcade.de/me_coll.html#Asteroids (http://www.andysarcade.de/me_coll.html#Asteroids)
2. Space Zap Table - http://www.andysarcade.de/me_coll.html#spacezap (http://www.andysarcade.de/me_coll.html#spacezap)

My suggestion is the Space Zap, as we have the Asterock already.

What do you think?

Yes, the Space Zap cocktail is brilliant !! With the huge buttons on both sides and the basic but very addictive gameplay this is a great fun cocktail for Eurocade ! :):)

I totally love your Asteroids cocktail but indeed it is nicer to have a different game added.

I know you will have to lift it from your basement.....very much appreciate your efforts !!!

Some last minute work done on hang-on put a credit button on it.
Will bring the hang-on fur sure it’s not that big easy to cover whit plastic.

Next two games ready to be loaded for tomorrow
Badlands and gold wings

Now the next problem I am not 100% sure if I can load everything, the way back I want to do in one run.
Whit the weather conditions don’t want to put a big cab on the trailer(hard to cover whit plastic)

What do you guy’s prefer German vindicaters or jungle lord pin if I neat to chose

Dear all,
I just got a phonecall that blew my last hope. As I wrote to André in a private message a couple of days ago, I had trouble with the company I rented a van from and had to find a last minute replacement. Up until now I was hopeful that I would be able to pull it off. Unfortunately I have not been able too. The call I just recived was from my "dear" brother-in-law who decided that he didn't want to lend his car to me so now I am out of options. I feel terrible as I have let all of you and especially the organisers of Eurocade down. This was not the way I had visioned tomorrow at all as I have been looking forward to participating with my DK Jr. since the first day I read the anouncement. I will still be attending Eurocade (if you guys will still have me that is  ) as I am still very excited about meeting all of you guys.
Till tomorrow,
Tup (Alexander)

@tup, please don't have a stomach ache about this. Sure, we were a bit chocked, but also glad to read that you still will come. And don't be afraid, we will figure something out with the game.
However, do us a favour, kick your brother-in-law in the but.  :-)

See you tomorrow.

Just came back from the Eurocade location and just in bed....

It was a long day of hard work....the Eurocade crew plus my helper Robbert from the marching and really worked their *ss off to make the location look like a real arcade.

It looks totally awesome IMHO and the number and range of games is already INCREDIBLE.

Luckily this year none of my toes got hurt. The only narrow escape was when I was walking backwards with the Berzerk on my hand truck ( my last cab to move....) and didnt see a tyre that we had removed from the van, I fell over backwards and without Robin and Pieter quickly catching the Berzerk for me I probably would have been the third Berzerk victim......

Vernimark and Béla and Zita, PRC and Bencao already arrived, Polderarcade and friend already brought their games...

Nighty night, have a safe trip and see you all tomorrow for an AWESOME arcade day.

Currently in the hotel - approached a few random groups last night who looked at me as if I had 2 heads when I started asking about Eurocade to no avail.  Really looking forward to this today.

Basically, I do not have the address for the event, so in just in case I do not meet anyone at breakfast, would one of you be kind enough to PM me the location.

Thanks guys for the nice comments so far. It was great meeting you all, a few for the first time but most of you for the second time or so. And amongst you were quite some good friends, at least I like to think so.

I had a blast today, everything went smooth, the weather was great, the armosphere was very special and the games were fun to play. And you guys rocked. The high score contest on Donkey Kong, delivered a winner, who already collected his price. More info about the results of the contest will soon follow.

There was only one disappointment, when getting back to the hotel at 1.15 am a few of us discovered that the hotelbar was already closed! Bummer.

I wish all of you who are still driving (Muerto), or who will drive back home tomorrow, a safe journey and I hope that we will meet again soon.

Super, Super Event (evenement)!!  Hey, you guys should do this every year!  :P

Was great seeing familiar faces again, and meeting some new ones... gonna have to check the list of names and forum usernames again for the who's who of Eurocade  ::)

Thankyou for bringing all your games and thanks to Everyone for (re)creating an amazing Arcade Atmosphere in Ridderkerk!!!  My Brother Quent, my Mom, and Bas also had a great time and a lot of fun, and we really appreciate you letting them join in on this cool experience!

Darnit i forgot to try a few game of Moon Patrol and Berzerk, but at least i got to play Ice Cold Beer for the first time... I wanted to play Mad Planets, which i played in 2008 in Philadelphia, very very cool machine, but it was not switched on...?

And what a simply awesome Eurocade Crew, all the Guys and Girls are!
André + Crew, I really appreciate the invitation, and the opportunity to try to break my current record on your Galaxian machine... it played great once again, it was perfect, but unfortunately i was not ;)
And Thank You Guys once again for the incredible Picture Frame you presented me after my record attempt!!
I was really surprised, flabbergasted  and very honoured by it, it looks awesome and i was amazed how you got the score in there so quickly lol.  I don't know where to hang it yet, because it's gonna look good everywhere :)

THANKS!  ;D

Wow, what a great event again! And indeed better then the year before, apart from the lousy Chinese food, that seemed to be the same or even worse hahaha!

Anyway a big thanks and congratulations to Andre and his league of extraordinary men for pulling this off again and even better!

Thnx for everyone, especially Robin for helping me out with all the boards I had brought, sorting them and taking some home for repair and further investigation.
Thnx to Bencao for bringing all his incredible stuff for an incredible great deal, those SLG's are going to come in sooo handy at our Arcade!

Thnx to Bruno for making me feel like a kindergarten gamer on Galaga! Next year I'm gonna eat your score for breakfast   I'm already in training as we speak  :spaceace:

Thnx to Michael for demotivating us to ever play Ice Cold Beer again, or maybe to get one and practice the hell out of it, if we can get our hands on one of course!! I sooo badly want this machine!!

Last to everyone who brought their wonderful cabs to the event (Space Zap is high on my list!)

Too bad that Pacwhiz didn't break his record, but that doesn't make him a lesser hero to me, what an Arcadegod this man is! Not to mention his skills on Pacman, he makes everything look soo easy!

Untill the next!!

You are very welcome Aart !

I think you really deserve this piece.

For the people that was not there to see it live, here a lowres image of what i have send off to the printers and framed it for Aart:

I have made the vector of this galaxian bezel, and i contacted my friend bas from Laforma (http://www.laforma.nl) if he could "create" a monitor in the file and some positioning of the items i gave to him.
(text, picture, arcade font, scanlines for over the monitor part and some buttons)

It came out really nice and after his attempt i combined the numbers that i had separate, and i could paste the score in there.

It was my pleasure to make this possible Aart, and again, you totally deserve it.

Maybe not the world record, but still an amazing accomplishment.

What an awesome gameplay ! just wonderfull !

Congratiolations on your score Aart !

(ofcourse i speak for all the Eurocade crew !!! )

just arrived home from eurocade - after travelling 1490 kilometers and almost being killed by that gamecube demopod during unloading...  :P

thx for a fabulous event, guys, perfectly organized and an awesome setup - even better than last year! unfortunately, the mad planets i had brought must have developed an issue during transport (we had to load and unload it three times before setting it up on location which obviously didn't do good to the game). i think there were two winners (gamewise) judging from the games getting played at this year's eurocade: ice cold beer (which fortunately i'm not such a huuuge fan than the rest of you guys) and space zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzap: that game really rockzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and i definitely need to have one, but wait a minute ... ;) 8)

thx again to everyone who made the event possible (again), i wouldn't wanna organize something like that!

and last but not least thx to chris for his hospitality and for being my wingman from belgium to the netherlands and back again. i really enjoy talking to you and moving stuff around in your gameroom! ;D

Maybe there's still some room between all the marching band history pictures on the wall in the bar ;)

Chris: the cupcakes were curtesy of my good friend Saskia.

Very nice of her to do this spontaneously, big x from me for that and....she also lent us her tri-pod for the videoing of Aart's WR attempt.

If you like her cupcakes, you should see her serious work.

She made this for my sons' best friend Niels (you've seen him around at Eurocade) birthday:

After Ec2011 I was a bit unsure. Yes, everybody had a great time at 2011's edition, but would people be willing to travel hundreds, sometimes thousands of km's across Europe again after only 1 year.

Obviously, and clearly, there was no need for that uncertainty ! :)

By far the majority of visitors of Ec2011 were here again, and most of them who weren't simply couldn't make it for serious reasons or playing in a band at a friend's wedding.... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Apart from that, people started bringing friends and family, which is great ! And of course there were the "new" visitors that we could welcome !

Anyway, a HUGE  :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace: to all of you, bringing cabinets, traveling from as close as 200 meters (Robin ! ;) ) and as far as Hungary, Italy, Scotland and Denmark ! You guys are all crazy and you guys are all GREAT !

Without you guys Eurocade would be nothing of course ! :)

Then there are the sponsors. For the first time we looked for sponsors and we were both a bit amazed but also very happy to find some companies in this hobby/business prepared to support us !

www.freakshirt.nl
www.arcadeshop.de
www.arcadeforge.de
www.arcadefixit.com
www.beeldengeluid.nl

:spaceace: to you and please support these companies and don't forget to mention Eurocade ;)

Then the "bar crew", Robbert, Ria, Yolanda and Wilma, without them, no drinks, no food....but also, no cleaned up kitchen and toilets after Eurocade. Also everyone who brought drinks etc. : :spaceace:

Next...the Eurocade team:

Robin, thanks for helping "all round"....dragging cabs, getting Galaxian board perfect for Aart and getting the Spy Hunter ready !
Pieter, thanks for all the P&R, finding sponsors and all the amazing other stuff you managed !
Etienne, thanks for the Pong, getting the incredible banner printed (is is really big enough ? ;)), doing the badges, taking care of the videoclips, sound, streaming, gazillian power strips etc. etc. etc. too much to mention !
Erik, thanks for your general support from A to Z, dragging cabs, vacuum cleaning, and hanging curtains, you're an asset to every household ;) And of course for financially managing Eurocade.
Chris: thanks for all your hard work on the Eurocade logo and artwork, it worked out GREAT !

Again, without an incredible team like this, Eurocade would NEVER be possible.

It was an honor of being the host again this year and I think, if people would like, we may be doing it again in 2013...........or 2014 ? ;D

Good !!!... :)

I must say I was able to enjoy Ec2012 even more than '11. It was less hectic and I had a bit more time to actually play some games and chat with people, even though I always feel like missing chatting with a number of people...it's hard to manage that ;)

ONE MORE THING !!!!!!!

I ALMOST forgot to thank Aart van Vliet for his INCREDIBLE attempt at breaking his own Galaxian World Record !!!

Aart, you are an incredibly nice guy and it was a complete honor to have you do the attempt at Eurocade 2012 !!!
Even though you were not in top-shape physically you managed to pull of an incredible game, only short of about 200k points of reaching your WR.
It was an honor you played on my machine, and a pleasure to set- up everything as good as possible for you, even though I suck at games I know how important "small" things like the response of a button can be. It was quite funny that we both agreed about the response of the fire button before we adjusted it a bit during the practice and test session. I hope you didn't miss too many "doubles" and if so we can work even further on it for your next try.

When handing over the "bezel" you mentioned "....or sooner" when I asked if you would want to give it another try next year.....well, I'd be happy to arrange everything to give it another try. The machine is still here, Robin's PCB also proved itself totally reliable and we now know how to set-up the cameras :) You just say when ! :)

 :spaceace:

I just powered on all my games and discovered a nice new Hi score on my Centipede of "only" 250.000 points by a certain "AVV"....mmmmm, who might that be ?? ;)

Luckily, my Berzerk hi-score is still on the top of the list ;)

Can you believe I actually played a game of Centipede AND a game of Lunar Lander ?  I just HAD to ;)

One of the fun things of Eurocade is that I mix up all the games when I put them back in my gameroom.....this is good to give certain games a bit more "attention" again :)

Not sure if you guys are interested but we consumed 126 kWh during Ec'12, that's 5 kWh more than '11 so just a small difference. It's only about 25 Euro on the budget ;)

First calculations show we will be making a small plus this year, as promissed this will be invested in Eurocade 2013 ! :)

There is one more person I would like to thank specifically and that is Bruno (DarthNuno) !!!

Without the wonderful DLF/ALS forum there never would have been a Eurocade !!!! The spirit of this forum can be found at Eurocade "live", a lot of friendship, and everyone sharing a passion for those crazy old wooden boxes with ancient electronics that still manage to put some magic in our lives ! :)

Thanks for hosting all the latests news about Eurocade in our own section  :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace: !!!

LOL.

No-one liked my Lunar Lander, everybody loved the Spaze Zap....boohoo.....

I mean, a mindless game of reaction compared to a game where you have to use your brains...t-t-t-t ;) ;) ;)

Seriously: I love the Space Zap, and to be totally honest, when Andreas mailed me he had to bring that instead of the 4 player Slam table I already thought this might even be more popular.

My next goal for Eurocade 2013: A Bishi Bashi. If you liked the Space Zap you will LOVE Bishi Bashi. But it's a humongous cabinet...probably not realistic to get it here....but we can dream of course :)

Something else.....did anyone notice that NONE of the vector games (LL, SD, Asterock and SW) showed any problems during Eurocade ? Esp. the SW got a lot of play I think...
It shows the operators were big whiners BITD.....vectors are reliable, you just have to MAKE them reliable ;) ;)

Great pictures Andre - all the cabs look well loved and in tip top condition. Never seen a Space Zap cocktail before - those buttons are Huge!

I liked what you did with the Galaxian highscore graph I drew 8). I still believe Aart will beat his current W.R. on your cab...one day.

Hi Josephjo and welcome here!
Actually, based on an Eurocade team idea, I took the liberty to upgrade your graph and during the whole process I was wondering what the original author would say.
I could'nt find any credits on the picture and had no means to contact you to ask you for permission so I'm glad that you contacted us instead.
I'm relieved you like it, too... oh, and I'm sure it will be put to good use VERY soon :)

Hah, glad you think about it that way.....yeah we found the idea ultra cool and ahum we borrowed it... ;D
The idea was to have it printed out on a large format and put it somewhere in the Galaxian area....but the time failed for that...

Not all the cabs are in top condition though f.i. my Nintendo Mario Bros. badly needs new paint....but it works so we decided to let it be there to be played :)

Passing the compliments back, you must be very impressed with the Eurocade 2012 logo. IMO very, very slick.

Arrived home yesterday from this awesome event, we made the party a bit longer in Brussels with my Bro. ;D
Like most of us before us, we would also like to send my huge thanks to André and to the whole crew(Robin,
Etienne, Erik,Pieter, Chris, Wilma, etc.) for organizing this great party and to all the visitors for coming and bringing these heavy and old wooden boxes. :D
It was really nice to meet for the first time with some of our members like Marco(Vernimark), Leo (Laszo), Barry (Joeks), etc. and i also have great discussions  with the "old warhorses". :D
I really enjoyed the high score contest also, but I was unable to beat Ully's brilliant result, congrats my friend. ;D ;D ;D
Watching Aart's performace on the Galaxian was also a highlight of the party for us, hope to have the chance to see it again next year. ;)
Last but not least, I would like to thank for the whole bar crew, especially for Wilma for helping us out with a beer or some food in every 10 minutes. :D
I have some nice pics from the party, will upload them here before the weekend.

Not sure if the orchestra and drumband would appreciate that ;)

But when i walked in on sunday morning to start the clean-up, the only feeling I had was turning the machines on and play the hell out of them the rest of the day.....anyone up for making it a two day event ?
(O my god....did I really write that.....oops ;))

Actually, my wife said the same, why not saturday and sunday untill for example 15:00 and then take out the cabinets..

so its not a bad idea i think..
i mean, the rent for various things is also for the whole weekend...

Hello everyone.....

Just wanted to let you guys know that the Eurocade crew will have an evaluation of Eurocade 2012 next wednesday evening. In general, we feel we improved on 2011, but there is always room for some improvements, some of which are "behind the scenes". And we learn every year....so it is a good thing to do this.

I think we will again do a survey soon, like last year, but if there is anything serious that we need to discuss already this wednesday than please let me know via e-mail or PM.
