Title: best place to buy a switching power supply (aka switcher) 110V (us voltages)?
Post by: Superully on September 28, 2011, 06:17:24 PM
hey guys, i have just found out that the switcher i was planning on using for my frogger is not working properly anymore. therefore i'm looking for the best place (possibly in europe, even better in germany) to get a replacement switching power supply which runs on american voltages (110V). don't care if it is US voltages only or if you can switch between europe / usa, as long as it can produce the voltages i need!!!

rs online perhaps?

thx for your help!!!

Arcsdeshop.de? most of them I have seen in cab’s can switch between
110 /230V
At work we also have them there used in some off are older computer systems
Only expensive 39euro ore something but they can switch between 110/230
When interested I can take some pictures

thx, just checked: 38 euros! puh, a lot of money for a switcher, but this looks like a quality product, not CCC (cheap china crap :P)!

Let me have a look, I got 3 lying around here, not sure if they are 230 only.... but 200-240 VAC only... You can have 1 if you like, shipping costs only.

cool! i have a couple of 230V only lying around as well, but not a single one which can be "changed"

Sorry, as i said above, unfortunately these are not switchable as well... But except for the fact that you can hook them up after the step down convertor thus to be switched on on 1 switch, why not go for a 220-240?

eh, what? i need the switcher directly AFTER the stepdown converter, this 110V

If you hook up a normal switcher for the step down convertor then there is no problem right? So why wanna go for a 110 Volt switcher?

exactly why i asked why 110...

just hook the 220 variant before the stepdown converter

then the stepdown is only nessecary for the monitor..

because the harness has been converted to include a switcher, it hooks directly into the switcher which then powers the pcb and the monitor. is there something i'm not getting?

You will be running a mains cable from the wall to the cab right ? Inside the cab you could split up the mains voltage towards the step-down converter (if actually needed at all...) and towards the switcher. Then you can use a 230V switcher that you already have....

It's the same as installing a 230V fluorescent fixture...

the switcher is not only connected to the monitor, but also to a power brick. the easiest (but not cheapest) thing to do is install a 110v switcher and be done with it, i wouldn't have to split up a perfect wiring harness. there's even a space reserved for a switcher on the power supply board itself. i now understand what you guys are trying to tell me, but for the setup i have a 110v switcher is the perfect solution - except for the fact that i don't have one right now ;)

alright, i contacted the german suzo / happ base yesterday asking whether they had any switchers in store - and they do

here are the specs (in german):

·         Industrie-Standard
·         AC Eingang 88-132Vac oder 176-264Vac
·         +5V, 3~15 Amp, +15V 4 Amp, -5V 1 Amp
·         CE, TUV und UL Zulassung
·         Hohe Effizienz
·         Einfachen Hochstarten
·         Grüne „Strom Ein“ LED
·         Überlastungsschutz
·         Eingebauter EMI-Filter
·         Max. Geräuschminimierung durch eingebaute Hochgeschwindigkeitsdiode
·         Gewicht 0,8kg / 20 Stück pro V.E.

seems to be nice quality (no CCC) and the price is nice as well: €23.65 per unit (€18.40 if i take 20+ ;)). i'll be ordering three of those soon, so i anyone wants to jump onbard, now is your chance to do so. i'll be seeing a couple of you guys this year, so i could easily bring them along.

so, place your order with me NOW 8)

I assume +15V must be +12V ? At least that's what you'd expect and also what the picture says...

Sticker also says 220-240VAC. Is it switchable ?
