Title: Vortek V3 - The neverending story
Post by: 2-mad on September 25, 2011, 04:36:04 PM
Hi Folks !

This might to become the never-ending thread about my "new" Vortek V3 ... (Pics will follow)
In the last days this machine was delivered and after 5 seconds I thought ..

What a mess ...

After the next five secs ....

Damn f*ck bloody hell or with Q*berts words : @!#?@!

As I say : pics will follow, but I'll try to describe also in a few words.

Housing : Broken .. massive broken.
PC-Engine inside : HDD damaged, Power supply damages, not enough memory inserted, doesn't matter, also damaged.
DVD-Rom : broken, floppy does not work.
Monitor inside the "cab" : still repaired, but not fixed inside the housing .. the chassis of the monitor circles around the cab ...
The back-cover of the cab is musing, the second Power-Supply is missing, the Subwoofer also ...
Service switch is fallen apart etc etc etc
The "Helmet" : Monitor is working, but the picture is too far to the right, and can't be aligned .. many screws are missing
Dirt, scratches and what ever all over the machine ..
Absolute a horror state ..

So I decided the following ..

I will build a new cab, or I will modify a cab and will rebuild the Vortek-V3 with a new housing ..
All Ideas will follow .. also some pics ..
Since I am currently ill and unable to work, I have much time to look after that!

Let the "Show" begin !

Didi

And here a view inside the helmet (hope you can see)

The sound of the big spring at the helmet sounds like a old man .. hehe

I'm so tired ..

so the helmet and the game somehow works?

After a new 512MB stripe of Ram a new power supply for the PC a new DVD-Drive
some electrical hints and soldering some stuff and a little bla bla .. one of three games is running ..
Beach Head 2002 runs ..
The rest is killed .. the HDD has too much faulty sectors ..  I'll try to fix them later ..

But at all : I've got running Hardware .. thats a base...

It is working "halfway" ..
And I still played BeachHead 2002 ! Believe me... It IS fun !
My Plan is to create a new Mame based machine wich can both.. To be the original one and to switch to "other" games

Hi, nice machine, but sure a lot of work. Good that you have working hardware now.
About the HDD: I'm sure that if you find another guy with the same machine, he can give you some backups. This might also be interesting for the MAME Project. I did a quick search and could not find anything about that game in MAME. Would have been nice, if there were a CHD Image from the HDD. Then you could have simply replaced it.
Anyway, I'm sure you'll get it to work completely soon :)
Hf & gl!

I got a contact in USA who will help me. I've got the original CD Set for BeachHead 2002.
So one game can be retored.
But I wanna make a Mame solution also. Using a dual-boot system.
So I will get the perfect System. Now I'm looking for the pefect housing aka "Cab" ...
I think this winter will not be boring !

wouldn't it be just perfect to use the original cab?

There is not enough space for Joysticks, Buttons and what ever you need ..
The original one has NOTHING ! ..
There are only 4 Buttons at the helmet .. The complete cab will be used with the helmet ..

I have to agree whit ully. the cabinet looks realy cool! and there are enof generic cabinets that are clean and nice and mameminga generic cab is the best thing there is. It gifs you a sollid base a jamma loop good fitting monitor and are dearty cheap. only reson for maming this would be is your are completely out of space and still then i would say make a arcade controller and just play on your tv ore pc.

I don't know if it's rare ...
The problem is :
I wanna have this game in my living room ..
But this ugly thing will not fit .. so I keep the original cab and take a "new" one ..
The original PC and the "arm" with the helmet will be "transplantated" on the other cab.
I Install a "Boot-Manager" so I can boot the original game on the original PC or I can boot a Mame-System.
Try to imagine ...
I wanna bring THIS :

in the style of THIS :

So something between them ..

And the original Cab will be saved and I bring it to original state ...
So that the machine can always brought back to original condition ..

My basement is full..
Now I put machines in my apartment .. but I run out of space ..
What is to do ??
Mame something !
