Title: Paperboy for iPhone
Post by: polaris on May 01, 2011, 03:30:19 AM
i quite like having old games on my phone cos it looks kind of cool to me having the little icon there, i have namco for the pacman logo, i dont play it, its not much fun because of the controls and ive found any arcade game i've tried poor to play because of the controls to be honest.
however paperboy is quite playable with the full tilt controls selected, the sounds are pretty good too, give it a try while its free.

I've just read that the Missile Command version is OK too.
That would help me answer my question: "do I really need an iPhone?".

i wouldn't buy one for playing arcade games, and i'm sure you don't need one, but its the most useful gadget i have ever owned by a million miles

i'm sure the MC just involves touching the screen to shoot missiles, i know i'm going to get abuse for this, but paperboy kind of feels good to play, you are making the same actions as playing the game for real, closest i've experienced to the real feel of a game anyway

+1000!

I have to back you up on that, simply, because it is!
When i bought mine, i was not sure of the potential of it, but it has become such a helpful tool in my working day, that i (almost) don´t need a computer......

And Ully..... hmmmmm..... shame on you!

i'm probably too old school for it - or annoyed by all the pupils at school who just have that thing for bragging reasons. PLUS i'm also annoyed by the fact that when you're with people and have a discussion going on, they simply pull out that stupid thing to check something out. where's the fun in that? i know that sooner or later i need to have one as well because i don't want to be cut off from society, but as long as i can live without one, i will.

but let's not turn this into an iphone discussion - wasted energy for nothing!

My girlfriend has an iPhone, I'll download it tonight while it's still free (and most of all while she sleeps) and give you some feedback in a few days  ;).

I plan on getting an iPad 2 in a couple of months....maybe you know.....where they are a lot cheaper than here ;) ;) ;)

I keep laughing about this.

When Apple launched the iPod everybody said: hell it's just another MP3 player, it's going to be a failure !
When Apple launched the iPhone everybody said: hell it's just another phone, it's going to be a failure !
When Apple launched the iPad everybody said: a tablet, who needs a tablet, useless toy.....

Well I rest my case. @Ully, I agree with you about HOW people use their Smartphones (it's definitely not just the iPhone you can blame). It's the user who is rude or not, not the device.

I'm quite like Bruno about this matter.

I first bought a 27" iMac. Definitely the best computer I ever bought (right after my beloved Amiga).
I used a sony mp3 player for years.
But having tasted to apple world, I was very tempted by an ipod touch. I don't own any GSM. I don't need one.
And you know what, the ipod is just amazing to use.

As you expect, I bought a day 0 Ipad2.
And also, It's one of the best tool I ever use. I use it more than the iMac, now.
It's a pleasure for web surf & social networking.
It's not perfect and it should be more open to the foreign world, for a better ease of use.
Even my father that is refractory to the computer world (not his age) was very interested by the direct touch interface.

Mmm...I would really like to see someone do that for real. IF there's any damage, the glass is definitely not going to shatter like that (must be safety glass). O, and there's nothing up to the stupidity of some users. you should know Etienne ;)

any reports on playing paperboy on the ipad?
I enjoyed it for a few hours but i don't think I'll come back to it often (no the reason is not because it's not MY iPhone).
Maybe if you could turn the bike just by bringing the iPhone up or down it would be more intuitive... just a thought.
I kept missing my targets with the newspapers because I had to use my thumbs both for going left/right AND for shooting.
Overall nice port anyway, thanks for the info, Polaris!

The iPhone is by far , and really , by very very far the best smart phone you can buy. Yes, it is not cheap but worth every penny. No substitute really.
Shame on you ! :-)

Didn't rate paperboy on the iPhone much, played it as couple of times and it never got loaded back up again.

There is a FREE cartoon version of operation wolf available on the iPhone and its pretty good!
