Forget the measures of that cab, let's have the measures of that nice lady ;)

And why didn't _she_ wear any "leg levellers" ? ;)

Come to think about it....she's probably 60 now ;)

alright max, here you go! note that i did my very best to get the measures as accurately as possible, it couldn't hurt though if someone else double-checked. i'm pretty sure that especially the sideart positioning was quite random, so you might have a lot of "creatitivy" there on where to put it.

1 = 76.2
2 = 177.4
3 = 2.5
4 = 0.1 - 0.3 (different on each side, i would go with 0.2)
5 = 1.3
6 = 4.3 - 4.5 (also different on each side)
7 = 0.7 - 1.1 (it rises from the front of the control panel towards the bezel)
8 = 1.2
9 = 1.2
10 = 9.7
11 = 43.3
12 = 57.3
13 = 62.1
14 - 16 = no space here, it's leveled with the sidepanels
17 = 8.1
18 = 5.3 (note that the speaker cutout isn't simply cut out straight, there's a certain angle here (if you know what i mean) - do you need pics?)
19 = 15.2
20 = 9.8
21 = 8.6
22 = 8.3
23 = 5.2
24 = 15.3
25 = 7.9
26 = 16.1
27 = 5.3
28 = 23.5
29 = 2.8

if you need anything else (pictures and stuff, just let me know, the cab is still pulled out, so i have full access to it)

good luck!!!  :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:

Title: Re: DEFENDER - Scratch Built Replica - WIP 0.5%
Post by: Superully on April 24, 2011, 09:25:15 AM
ok, second set of measures! but let me start with a picture of the cutout on the upper back first :arrow:

(http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5070/5648921100_22a0da036c_b_d.jpg)

see what i mean when talking abot the angle?

anyway, here are the next measures you need for your porject:

30 = 50.3
31 = 20.1
32 = 18.0
33 = 44.5
34 = 16.5
35 = 47.0
36 = 10.0
37 = 3.0
38 = 9.5
39 = 66.4
40 = 145.7
41 = 24.5
42 = 53.5
43 = 3.6
44 = 1.4

let me add this: getting some of those measures is not easy because of some curves / angles involved, therefore no guarantee for the accuracy - would be cool if someone else with a defender cab could double-check. this is the first time i've taken measures for a scratch-built cabinet and what i've learned is this: without an original cab as a template to copy on a cnc machine, a reproduction cabinet can only be a very close approximation. what i would like to do is take one of scr33n's famous blueprints and put it on the side of a real cabinet to find out how accurate they really are. i'm sure they are extremely close, but how close would be interesting to see.

@max: perhaps you could send one of your blueprints over once you've created it for some final adjustments?

Yes this for sure, very difficult to replicate with great accuracy, but I try my best with your help and with cab-profile found on the net  :P

... then ... the original cabs, were all identical? Mmmmhhh I've some doubts  :roll:

Now I can start to plan ...  ::) 8)

Hi,

do you know this thread in the arcadecontrols forum?
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=65938.0

I used the dimensions from this thread for my scratch build slim Defender cab.

Maybe you can use some of the values.

Project continues ... slooowly:

slowly?

what i'm asking myself: are the measures, your drawings and the cuts that accurate that everything (marquee etc.) fits in like a glove or do you have to do some tweaking and use italian magic to make things fit?

I need a new control panel (why? I've 2 original defender CP, where is the problem?  ::)):

check this pic ... you can see the space between the cp and the cab:

(http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/374/s6304172.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/836/s6304172.jpg/)

both are bent  :-\ ??? maybe the humidity?!?!?!

ok no problem ... A new Defender control panel from scratch is done:

(http://img545.imageshack.us/img545/1481/s6304161.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/545/s6304161.jpg/)

(http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/9200/s6304162.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/405/s6304162.jpg/)

in position:

(http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/2254/s6304163.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/543/s6304163.jpg/)

test with defender monitor bezel replica from arcadeshop.com (I don't remove all the protection, too much dust around  :?):

(http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/8676/s6304164.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/51/s6304164.jpg/)

fits nicely  8)

What problems did you have? Can you explain?

same thing as the last time: a lot of "dirt" in the rolled on paint. i tried this in various rooms (because i thought there would be too much dust in the air), but the results were basically the same. also tried extremely cheap and extremely expensive rollers - same result. the paint is the same as always (just a different color) - i'm totally puzzled by this and can't really finish my resto because of that!

and I need the W insert  :roll:... maybe someone can help me ?  :-* :-* :-* ...

unfortunately, i can't remember where i got mine from, it was a guy on KLOV, so i would ask there. i've tried to find the details in old emails, but was unsuccessful. if i were you, i'd put up a posting on the american forum. if everything fails, you could at least have my scratched one or ask etienne to make you a repro 8)

Very impressive, i think i like this one the most of all your projects.

 :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:

You should make a video of all your cab's together, with the lights on, that would totally ROCK!

outstanding work, max! i still don't understand how it is possible to do something like that. definitely a piece of art!

i'd be interested to see a picture of the inside of the cab if possible, curious how the computer stuff is set up!

btw, do you have leg levelers under that b****?

You seriously should take orders from rich guys who would like *brand new* games in their luxury villas  :wink:
Your 'Scratch Built Replica' show room is big enough... or not? What's next?  :roll: ;)

nothing to add which hasn't already been said, so please bring on those new gameroom pictures (w & w/o lights) and let us know about your next project, because we all know that there is still space in your room for tow or three more cabs - as always ;)
