So here it is: Eurocade 2011. The first edition of an annual European meeting of arcade videogame collectors !
For the first edition, I've "chosen" my gameroom as the location. Of course the goal is to have all the games in there up and running. However, since the date is at the end of summer, the idea is to put up a large tent in my garden so we can house more cabs !! The basic idea is really that of the well-known California Extreme (CAX) meeting, where collectors from across the US come and BRING cabs to share, to play, to meet and to have FUN !
The longer term goal is to make this an annual event (of which the location can change) and hopefully it will grow bigger each year !
The key to the success of this meeting is the collectors who are willing to come over and bring a cab (or two ?) !
Yes it's nuts, yes it's crazy but YES IT'S FUN !!
So far, I have a promise of about 6 cabs to be added for the meeting, being some VERY nice titles indeed !!
While I took the initiative for Eurocade, I found some local arcade friends who are willing to help with the organization:
CKONG (Erik), Etienne, RobinHolland (Robin) & Gyruss (Pieter) have agreed to contribute to the success of the meeting, for which I'm very thankful.
So, for those who don't know where I live, Ridderkerk is a town which is VERY close to Rotterdam, the most important city of The Netherlands (although other opinions differ).
It is at a "cross roads" of two major hi-ways, so very easy to reach by car.
For those who want to fly into here, there is our local Rotterdam-The Hague Airport, but of course Schiphol airport is only 45 minutes drive away by car.
Of course there are lots of hotels around in the area, I will find out if we can strike a deal with a certain (close and very modern) hotel if there is enough interest.
You could easily combine a visit to Rotterdam for a great weekend here. If it's windmills you want to see, the largest "collection" of windmills in Holland is a 15 minute drive from my place.
So details:
What ? Eurocade 2011
When? 3 september 2011, 10.00 - 0.00 h.
Where ? Ridderkerk, The Netherlands
What do I pay ? Bring a cab, entrance FREE. Bring no cab ? You're welcome to spend a free donation in the "piggy bank" at the meeting
What if I bring my cab and it rains ? No worries, the tent is leak-free guaranteed ! There will be heating for the night-time.
What to drink/eat ? I hope everyone can bring some drinks,crisps, cookies you name it. Lunch/dinner is not arranged sorry, we can call some pizza's or whatever, everything is available.
Who is invited ? The primary "target" are the collectors of arcade videogames. However, there are also arcadevideogames enthusiasts who don't have any machines at all for some reason. We're not ruling anybody out but we prefer not to have "joe around the corner" who happens to come along and play some games then leave...
What are the house rules?
1) RESPECT the games. Should be a no-brainer, but I see bottles of beer etc. on or near machines at about every meeting I"ve been to. Sorry but there will be plenty of room for drinking/eating but not where the machines are.
2) No drunks. No problem if people grab a couple of beers, but know your limits. I don't want people sleeping/puking in my SW cockpit !! ;)
3) No smoking. Not in my gameroom, not in the tent,not in my house. Smoking IS possible in my front yard.
4) No drugs. Yeah yeah we Dutchies are famous for our coffee shops, but I hate them.

So, I really hope you guys are feeling like making this a success. I do realize some of you are from very far, but without your contribution it will be impossible to make it a success.

Maybe in the historic "Boer zoekt vrouw" vision of Holland we currently seem to favor!
The largest labour group in holland is truckdrivers. Well, in that respect Rotterdam is the most important.
Without which region would the WORLD suffer most: exactly: the Eindhoven Area. No more wafersteppers from the high tech region in Brabant means no iPads, no faster internet, no new mobile phones, no new Google TV's, no new car navigation, no new ..... (fill in the blank spot).
The only thing Rotterdam does is move boxes. Quite efficient, but the Greek are about to take over the no 1 position in Europe (thank GOD, I hate trucks on the A15), thanks to our lovely Chinese friends. Moving boxes is important, but not the thing we should be proud of in the Netherlands.

Sorry but WTF is this doing in this thread ? You sound completely arrogant towards people who are working in the transport business. My father has earned his living and raised a family earning his money in the transport business....
Oh, no he wasn't a truck driver, he was first arranging transports (f.i. moving 1200+ John Deere tractors from Germany to the Middle East) etc. When he retired he was the head of the Dutch branch of this company.
Tell me where do you get your food and cloths from without them ? I hate people who think they are better because they work in a "higher" segment/job.
FYI: Holland's biggest economy is the logistics, like it or not. And who will move your fancy wafer machines to the far-east once they're ready ? (By the way, plenty of competitors in Japan making the same machines). Yes I am damn proud of the Dutch logistics AS I am proud of companies like ASML.(The one you are talking about).

All these things, although nice, are not REALLY that important in the world. They are nice, but some 20 years ago we all got along pretty well without ALL the things you mention there......now, without fresh food in your local Supermarket......that's something else....

Good I'm not arrogant. Who stated Rotterdam was the most important city? You invited for off-topic chit-chat with that arrogant statement. Now I'm just making fun of it. BTW, Japanese wafersteppers are not needed for the cutting edge work, just for bulk-work. ASML has 70% market share, and is the only important supplier for <32nm stuff.

But of course, why wouldn't you be ? We strongly urge all European collectors to come over and if possible bring a machine, spread the word !

@ El-pancho: Black Night would be a _dream_ pinball to add !!!
@2-mad: Well....my gameroom is completely full so it will be the tent for the "3rd party" cabs. I don't have the exact sizes now, but let's say something about 8x5m.
I know the space is rather limited, but we'll have to see how many cabs will be brought. If it's going as succesful as it already is now, there is a back-up plan ! :)
So, don't let space reasons concern you for bringing something...

About the retro-computer stuff: I thought about that too and it would be cool if we have plenty of space left (OR if we decide for Plan B).
Let's just say that the priority list is as follows:
a) Classic (1971-1985-ísh) video arcade games
b) Pinballs (any era)
c) everything else :) The reason also for this is that there are already lots of homecomputer/classic console meetings throughout Europe. Again, not ruling them out, but we'll have to consider...
This means if we have to choose between a classic videogame or a pinball it will be the first one (also because we can house 2 upright videogames at the space of 1 pinball machine).
I've got a couple of Atari systems here that could also be in that corner if we can do it...Let's just see how it runs space wise...
I will figure out how much space we can actually get in the tent(s) and make a drawing to keep track...
As mentioned, if things get really big (which would be brilliant) there is a back-up plan for a location near my home that can house much more machines (and tent(s). However, that would mean moving (all) my machines there. Not impossible, but a lot of work :)

Another idea that was launched by Etienne and Robin is maybe doing some little demo/explanation on how to do some (basic) repair work.
Although I think that's a great idea, again space can be a limit here. Also what I don't want is that everybody comes up with a broken board and asking to be fixed. This should be fun for everyone. If Robin/Etienne don't mind, I'm fine with it, but they shouldn't be soldering whole day if you understand what I mean :)
I must say I'm very pleasantly surprised by the great response within less than a day already !!!
So far, people from Holland, Belgium, Germany and even Hungary will be coming !!! Hoping for some French and UK guys too, maybe even Italy ? (and more from the other countries are welcome too of course !!)

Although others have mentioned it too, I'm not too sure if I'm in favor of a BBQ for various reasons.
Space is reason one. A BBQ needs a lot of room to stand safe and of course there will be fumes...don't want those to reach the cabs ;)
Also, it means a lot of work and time. So, I'm not saying no right away, but it's not my preference right now....

Defenately! We have to get a couple of cheerleaders to make it look more realistc ;) I'm already in my personal planing phase and managed to get the trailer from my parents. So I can bring another cab if wanted. Maybe my generic Hyper Olympic...? A while ago, when space was VERY limited I put up artworks and PCBs for several classics on my german generic machines ... Turned out to be looking like midget versions of the real ones ... ;D maybe I can bring one or two besides the PPII ... I made Frogger, Hyper Olympic, Galaxian, Donkey Kong, Pacman and Arkanoid ... You can choose one or we see which game is missing on the lineup at the end :wink:

Hyperolympics with 4 players ? Do 2 take turns ? My personal preference would be Frogger though :D

Yes, it's two players simultanious, four players total. But it's great fun! Here is a pic of the first three ... if you have the space I can bring the PPII and one or two of these little rascals ... I have plenty of artworks and Panels that I can bring too (if wanted, because not dedicated?) for changing on the fly ;) takes about ten minutes to change the Frogger to a Galaxian or Arkanoid :D

I would never dare to bring my cheap-ass DK to a collectors meeting ;D the HO looks beter than the official one here in germany ... I will bring that and the Frogger, if not otherwise on the spot ... if Andre gives his ok ;)

Yes of course, but as I said, if it's not possible to bring a cab, you're still welcome ! :)
Depending on your arrival, I (or maybe someone else from the area) could pick you up. Eindhoven is preferred on a friday afternoon for traffic-jam reasons near Amsterdam but this depends greatly on your arrival time.
Normally Amsterdam Schiphol-Ridderkerk is about 50 minutes by car. Eindhoven about 1 hour and 10 minutes.
By train, Schiphol is easiest. There is a very fast train that only takes about 25 minutes from Schiphol to Rotterdam Central Station, I could pick you up there.

The regular train takes about 49 minutes but is cheaper. http://www.ns.nl/cs/Satellite/travellers
At Schiphol the train station is UNDER the arrival hall so no need for a transfer.
At Eindhoven, you'll have to travel to the center of the city to catch the train...not so handy. It also looks like Easyjet is cheaper than Ryanair, but that can differ (also your airport near Milan might be closer/further)...

Mentioning again the priority list:
a) Classic (1971-1985-ísh) video arcade games
b) Pinballs (any era)
c) everything else The reason also for this is that there are already lots of homecomputer/classic console meetings throughout Europe. Again, not ruling them out, but we'll have to consider...
I'm not a big fan of PCB's being swapped around constantly in my Jamma cab. Also there's a PC in there now in the place where usually the boards are installed.
Also, it's not a big secret that I'm not a fan of the generic Japanese cabs and the games that came with them. I also completely do not see them as classic (again, the era 1971-1985). Please, let's not have a discussion about if they are or are not...it's just what I feel about them.
So my _personal_ preference is that I reserve as much space as possible for the "priority list". You see, where do we draw the line ? First it was plastic cabs with Jamma, but now there's talk of XBOX 360, sorry but the goal is CLASSIC games.
Again, not trying to spoil anyone's fun here, but I do try to keep things focussed.
So, not ruling them out completely, but the priority lists still stands.
Regarding point c) in that list, I think focus should still be on classic machines (IF there's room for them, so Atari 8 bit, 2600, C64 etc.) then on modern day XBOX360/Wii etc. gaming, I think there's plenty of that going round and everyone can play it somewhere.
P.S. this also follows CAX (which was the inspiration for Eurocade), no plastic there either.....

I'm happy to report a very fun, friendly and fruitful first meeting of the Eurocade crew !
First thing we agreed on that we want the same weather as we had today: totally blue sky, but still not too hot :)
Gyruss had brought a small surprise to have a look at (fastest repair ever)...it was his freshly acquired German wall machine Zero Hour. For the first time it was "just a fuse" (OK, actually two fuses, both blew for some reason).

The good news for CAX is that this wall machine is now officially added to the games to be at Eurocade 2011 !

That would be awesome to give the opportunity to members who can not attend to, at least see the event in real time and maybe chat a bit.
Something else: I'd like/love/adore to see a Dragon's Lair cab at Eurocade because it's a great machine and most of all because it's a symbol of what brought us together.
I think we will look a bit dumb on CNN when they'll announce that members from DLF put up an arcade event but sadly no DL cab was to be seen there.
I don't own one myself so I'm just throwing a message in a bottle here.
OK and I admit that is also maybe a lame excuse to selfishly be able to play this game on a dedicated cab one more time.

We have discussed a bigscreen, for multiple purposes, and we agreed that atleast i will bring my beamer.
How and what is not clear yet, because a bigscreen also takes up alot of space..
in any case i always have my laptop with me, and there is a webcam on my laptop, so thats not a problem.
But i think that Andre also has a webcam iirc.

After some good discussion, weighing all pros and cons of the machines he mentioned, we chose a game that has marked a turning point in the history of (arcade) videogaming. A game that has one of the most beautiful set-ups/cabs, and a true B/W classic:

Everyone may or may not like a game, but as arcade game collector, and but most important 'Arcade Life Styler' in a friendly meeting, I do not denigrate a "someone's favorite" game, just because I'm not a fan. I rather be curious about the game and try to figure out why that particular game is the somebody's favorite one, listen his stories about the game, and finally play the game to respect the effort of someone's bringing a game in a convention...
In a general way, when I don't like something, I don't feel the need the express myself about it, or at least, I use to say 'not my cup of tea' instead 'It sucks!' I prefer the 'positive side' of the things ;)

After all this time that I hung around on this forum you should know my "style of humor". It's the same thing as my "famous" Galaga "hate".
In all seriousness I have very little against Galaga. It's a nice game. But I simply prefer Galaxian.
During time and several posts on several forums, I kind of find it funny to "feed" and "cultivate" the Galaga vs. Galaxian "war".
It's the same with C64 vs. A8. It's just a bit of fun, teasing.
Again, I have nothing against a LD game at Eurocade, in fact, I would most welcome it to finally give it a SERIOUS try.
It's true, I admit, I have mentioned my feelings about DL more than once here and in other places. I've been teasing too long. I should finally write down _why_ I have this attitude towards DL.
I hope this is still a forum where several opinions are allowed.
Remember that cultures differ greatly between countries, and in fact even regions.
I'm from Rotterdam. Rotterdam is a no-nonsense, cut-the-bullshit city, where people simply say what they think. Not all cultures are used to people being so direct. I know. Even in Holland there are regions that are a bit less straightforward, but I think it's safe that Dutch people in general have little fear of saying what they think. There are pros and cons about this. A big pro is that it's clear right away what people think. A con can be that people get hurt a little if they take things personally when it's not meant that way.
In other words: I have a "big mouth" :)
SO.....to not clutter this wonderful thread anymore, I suggest I start a new topic where I will write my honest feelings NOW about DL. Then, I hope we can welcome you here with a DL cab and I will honestly and with an open mind play it and will give the game another chance.
As you see, there are lot's of people who are dying to actually try DL (or another LD game) in real life, and I am all for it that they should be able to so they can judge if they like it or not themselves.
Eurocade is not (just) my thing, it's a community thing. The fact that I had asked CKONG, Etienne, Gyruss and RobinHolland to form a team BEFORE I even announced Eurocade should be a clear indication about that.
Anyway, a lot of words to say, please bring DL to Eurocade you will do a lot of people a great joy with it, don't let a moron like me who keeps teasing about it stand in their (and your) way.

Very good news. Looking forward to this event more and more every day.
I had an arcade meet yesterday in The Haque (japanese gaming scene, candy cabs etc.), organized by Psykick (known here for his famous Nintendo red tent, see some pictures here: http://forum.nozomi.nl/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3112&start=100). Once more I realized how much fun it is to meet and talk with mindlikes. Of course we ended the day at a Japanese restaurant in Scheveningen.
Can't wait for september. :D

I don't know...although I fully admire and respect Muerto's self-made machines and I'm a big fan of BB, I would definitely choose for the original classics where possible.
My vote goes to Missile Command, because I think that's the most epic IMHO. It would so greatly fit into the line of absolute top classics we have lined up so far....

Being the absolute Vector junky that I am, I'd vote for Omega Race. The cabinet is absolutely sweet, plus it's not a very common game.
Boot Hill is still attracting too, there's no raster B/W game yet....and I really think the Tournament Table would be great fun too because of it's 4 player goodness, and man, if anything Eurocade is THE place to play 4 player ;) ;) But...cocktails EAT space ...
However, if others vote more for other cabs....I might just be kind enough to allow them ;) ;) ;)
(I love the CC cabinet, just not a huge fan of the game, but I could certainly live with it being at Eurocade :))

It would be a nice appetizer before entering the main gameroom.
If no room at all I could also leave it in the back of the van and 4 people at a time can go in there and play a few rounds on it while I wait outside...
... but this would definitely make me look like a pimp in front of your whole neighborhood, especially if I wear my long fur coat...

Something we've discussed during the crew meeting and a thing I think we should communicate....
Since we have some technical guys around at Eurocade, it's probably tempting for some of you to think : hey, I've got this (fill in any defective hardware) and maybe the guys at Eurocade can have a "quick" look and fix it in "a couple of minutes".....
I can fully imagine that feeling BUT this is not what we want.
The reasons are simple: we are going to try for the technical guys to actually have a fun day as well. It won't be much fun for them if they spent half the day fixing stuff....
SO.....if you bring a cab, please make sure it is actually working BEFORE you load it. And that's the second reason: we all know these beasties are aging and can show some problems after transport or during the day. Of course, in those cases, our technical guys are willing to have a look to try to fix the problem so the cab will run again. Again, this shouldn't cost them hours at end, so please don't expect that of them....
Of course, this doesn't mean you can't bring anything if you have made PRIOR arrangements with someone and AGREED about it BEFORE Eurocade.....
We all know that the technical guys are the nicest of all of them and often find it hard to say no to help someone, but please don't abuse that :P

A second note: Please, when you bring machines, try to set them on Free Play if possible. If not possible, we will have pre-wired push buttons that can be installed temporarily over the credit switches. Usually it's possible to simply put them in without any soldering or other permanent change. Please let us know is your machine will need this or not.

Yep, coincidently, I will be going to two Hotels tomorrow (the Novotel and the Van der Valk) to see if I can get a good deal.

OK, I've visited both hotels and discussed a deal. Now, for the deal we need between 5 and 10 rooms to be booked. I'm not sure we will actually reach that number, but I had to name a certain number to get a bit of a deal of course.
I've got prices from both hotels and I'll try and see if I can negotiate a ltiitle bit more and report back.
Price INDICATION now is 89 Euro per ROOM per night, incl. breakfast. So, doesn't matter 1 or 2 persons in the room, that's the price....
In the mean time, I think I have 2 rooms which are more or less already definite, one for Belike +GF and one for PunkrockCaveman & Bencao74, both for 2 nights (fri 2 sept - sun 4 sept.)
From the definite visitors list the other guys from abroad are ChrisChris, Superully and Muerto. Maybe you guys can share a room and CC will bring a friend anyway...please discuss this amongst you guys and let me know, also how many nights.
So that would make a total of 4 rooms already. If any guys on the "MAYBE" list already know if they're coming for sure, please let me know ASAP, also because of the room booking.
Remember, it's only 115 days until Eurocade ;)
Also: if any of the Dutch guys still want to stay at the Hotel (for obvious reasons.... who wants to load up his cab after a fabulous day and evening at Eurocade and drive all the way home) ;) please let me know as well...if you share rooms it's only 44,50 , which is already a pretty good price for such a hotel IMHO.

Updated and cleaned up the games list a bit.
Now that I have at least five rooms for the Hotel I'll contact them again and do a little more bargaining. I'll also ask for the reservation details needed and how payment etc. is done.
I'm now making a Google Sketchup of my yard to see if the games will fit. So far it looks like we can still add more games so keep 'm coming !!!

Friends, I think it would be a good idea, if possible, to turn any "Mystery Machine" on the list into a real name of a game. The thing is, that the more GREAT game names we have, the more attractive Eurocade will be for all of us.
There is also a practical reason: I'm currently using Sketchup to make a drawing of the Eurocade set-up, so we can see if (and how) everything will fit in the yard. So it would be very nice to put the Mystery Machines in there too...
So, Ully, AtariMania, Arcadegek please let me know what you are planning to bring.

Well it was a LOT of work, but it was fun to do. I think it looks pretty impressive.
A lot of "shuffling around" was done to get an optimal situation. DO NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT SET IN STONE. In fact, I simply followed the list and added the cabs. It may very well be that we do a lot of Shuffling around. F.I. I think it might be cool to create a "Star Wars" area with the pin, cockpit and Trilogy together. Maybe we can also move the Pac machines together and the same for the Nintendo games. We'll see about it, I just wanted to know if everything will fit. So far, it looks like we have plenty of room, I placed the machines with some decent space between them.
I did go for the "best case" situation, i.e. all the "maybe" cabs are in there. Of course I couldn't find 3D models for some of the more obscure cabs, so I used something else and put the name above it.

This all already turned out WAY behind my dreams/what I expected :)
I'm a happy man for now, and even happier if the day turns out to be a success, but I have little doubt about that :)
About the tents: my yard is 7m. x 8m.
My own tent is 6x3m. So that will not cover the entire yard by far.
However, friend of mine has a little company that rents out party stuff and I can rent a tent of 8x4m. from him for 40 Euro for the entire weekend (thursday night till sunday) (and he will help set-up and tear-down for that too).
Now, by using both tents we can cover (almost) the entire yard. (the 4m and 3m. next to each other, we can shorten the length of the 8m. tent.)
I'm sure the "donations piggy bank" will cover the costs of the tent ;)
P.S.: Anyone volunteering to build a creative piggy bank in arcade style ?? ;D ;D

Just talked with the Hotel. It's pretty insane, they gave me a price of 89 Euro per night, but if you book on their site it's only 79. Yeah, they call it "Last Minute" but I can book "Last Minute" now for September !?!?!?
Even worse, if you select two nights, the price is 57.50 per room per night so WTF ?
I said I already have 8 rooms now, it may become more around 10 or so...and some for two nights, I need a real price madam.....or else the people might be better of booking through the website themselves !
Of course she had to discuss with her boss...and will ring back...

He advised me to take that deal ASAP because it was very cheap and he couldn't match the price, something about contracts.

In all honesty, these really are very fair prices, the hotel is very nice and the rooms are great. All very modern and I'm sure you will sleep well there.
If you want some extra luxury you can go for the executive rooms, which include a large whirpool-bath (amongst much more), good for couples ;D ;D
Please note that the prices I mentioned are for the (standard) Atrium rooms.
p.s. please note that the price is excluding tourist tax, but that can't be much in our town, we're not really touristic around here ! :D

To the guys planning on sleeping in their car, I am going to be honest and very clear about this:
I really do not want you guys to sleep in your cars overnight in my street.
Sorry, but I do not want this to happen, this is a nice and decent area, I will already have to ask a lot of understandment from my neighbors for the busy street with all the cars/trailers/vans arriving, plus imagine what the sound will be around my yard for an entire day....
I will inform them beforehand about the event and I'm sure there will be no problems (as long as we quit at 0.00, this is a strict limit) but I don't want people complaining about people sleeping in their cars in my street.
Sorry, but if you want to do this, you'll have to find a spot somewhere else.
I can understand that driving over here is already a costly matter for most of you guys, but I can't really understand that 40 Euro's is too much for a decent bed and a fresh shower in the morning (and some breakfast)....but that's up to you.
Again, if it would have been possible I would have invited you guys all to sleep over, but fact is that I will already have some of the crew sleeping here and I can only have so much people sleeping here.
I hope this all doesn't sound too unfriendly, but I thought I'd better be clear about it...

Really, again if it were up to me, you can sleep anywhere you like, but I know how some people here in the area are (they see and hear everything and one of them I know might even call the police, which would render you a more than double as expensive night PLUS a lot of hassle...)

Temps here are about 23 degr. in the house...I love my home for this, it's always cool in summer...
Gameroom was a bit hotter though yesterday....If I don't have a fixed airco installed yet by the time of Eurocade, I will arrange a mobile unit, because if all the games are running all day AND there are lots of people in there, it will get HOT.

Mmm, I _think_ that it simply works like that the room is now officially reserved for you and they will not rent it out to anyone else (should there be any customers for it) UNLESS you don't show up (in which case you also do not have to pay of course ;)).
So, you simply pay when you check out I guess. Not an uncommon thing around here.
Very fair to not have to pay 3 months ahead IMHO.
If you feel uncomfortable about it I can call the hotel to confirm this.

Puckman is running again. In fact, it has always been running. I just won't allow ANYONE to have a look at the back.... :)
The "hard" thing now is connecting the Jamma loom to the controls, installing the yellow button, putting back the CP and presto....and yes it will be running the 48-in-1, curse me at will.
I never said they'd be nicely restored, I just said they'd be working ;)
One bad thing, while bending back I broke a tab from one of the leaf switches on the Pac joystick....mehh...will solve that of course.
Once that's done, I will have to FINALY finish the SW. Got sound problems and sometimes the monitor is blanking out, I hope that's just a pot setting of the HV protection.....and still have to install that extra fan :S
After that, it's getting the MAME machine up and running....I want some MUSIC in my gameroom (it doubles as "jukebox")....

That worked for me (but the job was easy, boring but easy): a swap of backdrops between an SI and an SIpart2 in UK.
The seller had put the wrong backdrop in the wrong cab (SI and SI2) so I had to talk with the other buyer to arrange a swap.
It's now almost done and I'm quite sure I rushed the things a bit mainly because of Eurocade.
Still a good joystick check to be done on this cab and I'm good to go!

Puckman bootleg is up and running with an el-cheapo 48in1. Still have to get the sound working (it used to work AFAIR) and also the marquee lighting.
Monitor needs cap-kit.

Just a little note to say that I was away this weekend and it was a _great_ weekend...
Also wanted to put out a note that we are pretty near to the limit of people that Eurocade can handle.
On one hand I'm extremely happy about that, I really didn't expect it to be so successful. However, let's say that I did some promotion for Eurocade "on location" and we may have some good friends of this (and other) forums joining in....
Anyway, the bottom line is that I decided to close the entries officially on JUNE 25
Be sure that you upgraded from "MAYBE" to "ATTENDING" before that date... I will remove the MAYBE list from the 25th...

I just discussed a bit with my wife, and she has agreed that she will be preparing a nice "buffet" as an evening dinner at Eurocade. I think this is much nicer for everybody (instead of having to order stuff), and there will be something for everyone's taste (we hope :)). I also think it's much more practical compared to BBQ because I don't think we will like the fumes of the BBQ to stay in the tents ....and on the cabs ..... ;)
We will serve some nice Indonesian style food and some typical Dutch snacks and things...something for everybody's taste...
Now....I need some help ! I am looking for someone who can provide (for free or cheaply) a gas heater for the tents. Not sure what the weather will be like and of course we need to keep stuff dry for the machines that will be "spending the night(s)"....

Just a quick note that we are considering an alternative location for Eurocade.....
It looks like Eurocade will become so popular that we may need to move it to a bigger place with a fixed roof and other nice facilities, also opening the way for some extra things that we might else not be able to do.
Nothing is sure yet though...we're investigating....it _WILL_ still be in Ridderkerk though, so no worries about that ;)
Also, and I am very happy about this, I am able to add my good friends Luigi (Thorsten) and Capt.Kirk (Dirk) from Germany to the list of "attending" !!

while i have no idea what you have created there on facebook (because i'm not a member and will never be), i'm not sure if this is a good idea! there has been a lot of trouble with publically-announced facebook parties in germany lately where suddenly hundreds (if not thousands) of people showed up at a "normal" birthday party because someone had seen the "ad" on facebook and thought it would be a great idea to crush the party.

Also, I only know of one such case. Since Eurocade is supposed to be a public event, it can't be compared to this - or will this be held at a member's home??

To clarify:
Eurocade is NOT a public event. This is why the registration "mechanism" has been in place. The requirements are clearly explained on www.eurocade.eu
Anyone who has NOT registered will NOT be allowed at Eurocade. It's simple for me to do that, because it's a private party at my own home.
Even if the event is moved to the alternative location, this is still a privately owned place and not open to the general public.
The registration requires you to be a member of one of the mentioned forums PLUS to register with all the required details. Even so, there is a fixed limit in the number of people attending because of practical and safety reasons. We don't want to be like "herrings in a barrel" as we say in Holland :) For this reason I reserve the right to deny access if the limit has been reached.
The goal and intention of Eurocade is also clearly written on the first page on the site.

The Host2Web ad is there because they are sponsoring the domainname registration.
The Google sense adds are there in a desperate try to earn some spare change for the event.
DO NOT go mad clicking on them please, else the account will be disabled, I've already experienced that one time, and that simply means NO money, and those Google guys are very strict... If they sense that a banner is clicked more than once (or so ?) from the same IP address they will already ban me.

Today is CLOSING DAY for the registration of Eurocade.
Be there or be ........not there ;D ;D
If you're not on the list today, I can only put you on the "back-up" list. This means that if someone who has been registered as attending but will cancel his visit still (you never know what can happen) then the first person on that "back up" list can take that persons place.
For this reason I ask EVERYONE who has registered as "Attending" to let me know if something is making it impossible to visit as _SOON_ as you know it. This way someone else can join in your place. Please don't wait-up till the last couple of days if this happens...
The people who I have indicated as (SILENT) will be moved to the top of the back-up list if I don't hear anything from them today (23.59 closing time).
Another note: There will be a few people at Eurocade who have not registered here. Those are personal friends who are not into this hobby but still ike it a lot. Some will help out with stuff, for example my friend Ruud who built my Gameroom and helped me with the Belgian Warehouse raid.
Just that this is clear :)

hahaha. Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. It's the same with me. I mean, I could talk for hours and hours about this interesting hobby, to everyone, but unfortunately no one ever seems interested. After a few minutes people are starting to look real bored. :o
But yeah, talking about books, clothes, handbags, shoes, cars, soccer, your work, etc. ???? As if that is interesting!!
That's why meetings like Eurocade are so great, you can talk about games and cabs the whole day without getting bored reactions. :D

Today was "fix a Star Wars cockpit" day, because of the good weather forecast. To go short: it was a great day, and I think the LADY (right Ully? ;)) is ready for Eurocade !!!!

Ladies & Gentlemen....some important information for all Eurocade visitors:
Following the huge success in numbers of visitors and cabs that will come to Eurocade, the crew has discussed the possibility to move Eurocade to an alternative location.
This location is still in Ridderkerk and quite close to my home and is the clubhouse of my "Muziekvereniging" or, music/marching band.
The reasons for wanting to move it are as follows:
- no tents needed, nice safe and water-tight building, no heating required during night time (pretty important one for me, I sleep better without a running gas-heater in a tent in my yard)
- more space
- a comfortable separate "bar" room to eat and drink
- a big room for the cabs
- a spacious area in front of the building to sit/drink/eat if the weather's nice
- no (or little) problems with "neighbors"
- easier to unload/load the cabs
- room for extra stuff like a beamer set-up, a C64/A8 set-up, some hardware demoing by Bencao etc.
However, as with everything there are couple disadvantages:
1) I'll need to move all my cabs there. However, with the right help I can bring all of them in three drives, that's not that bad too do. I'll ask my friend Ruud to use his van and trailer
2) We'll need to pay to rent the space
And nr. 2) is what I need your opinions for. I've been calculating and we would need to ask a €5 contribution from all visitors to partly cover those costs. Note that this covers only the rent of the building and the electricity costs, not food or drinks.
Now, I know that this is against the initial idea of making it free of costs to enter if you bring a cab. However, I really think that the big advantages for everyone is really worth the €5 per person.
Now, if _anyone_ is AGAINST this, please let me know, either in PM or here in the thread. I am assuming that such a small amount is no show-stopper for anybody, but if there are LOADS of "No's" I will consider.

Indeed, it would become very crowded in my home and the game area. Imagine one toilet for all all day long.
There are 4 toilets for men/women at the clubhouse. Just another "simple" but comfy aspect...
I'm absolutely positive everybody will really like the "venue".

5,-€ is ridiculous ... I'm traveling 400km (one way) with a trailer and three cabs, staying two nights in a hotel to see all you guys and the machines of course. I will not even recognize the extra 5,-€ on my bill at the end of the event ;) So go for it and get the room ...

If I rent a vehicule, I'll try to get it the day before but I'm afraid that in order to keep costs low, I'll have to get it in the morning of the event (and then load the cabS).
I think realistically speaking that 10/10.30am is the very best we could do as this is supposed to be a fun day, not a race.

Yeah, somehow I missed your MC and ICB on the website....I updated that as well, also had to change some stuff because of the move of Eurocade from my place to the clubhouse...
I also removed the chat page as it missed it's goal.
Also guys....I asked not to go crazy with the ads, but a klik every once a week or so won't hurt getting some money in the bank for ;)

Yes, that won't be a problem. Not sure when I will be moving my own cabs (might be friday night, I have to talk with Ruud). Any help is welcome of course !

ALSO: if you arrive saturday, PLEASE be on time. We want to be READY at 12.00 if possible. It won't be much fun if we are still dragging cabs around at 14.30 h.

We had another excellent (last) meeting with the full crew today. Again, Pieter, Erik, Robin and Etienne thank you very much for your time, it was a pleasure !
I think we discussed everything we could think of but of course there will be unexpected things coming up. I'm sure we've got a quite capable team to face those things though :)
Everyone who registered will receive an e-mail with ALL information required this week, so keep a look at your mail box...
In the mean time, please read through this thread again, many important updates have happened that some may have missed (like the switch of location and following the entrance fee we have to charge to everyone of 5 Euro's to cover the cost of renting the place.

My friends.....I wanted to ask you, do any of you really require any route information for Eurocade ?
I will of course provide the adresses for both the Eurocade location and the Hotel van der Valk. I will also make a route description for Hotel to Eurocade and vice versa, but I assume about everyone has some form of navigation on board these days.
Even if you don't using Google maps it's possible to make excellent route descriptions yourself and even visually check the route using Google Street view.
If anyone really needs route info, please let me know, thanks.

Friends, I'm about to send you your tickets and info !!!
One more thing that is not in the info:
Firstly: the orchestra of our music-club had scheduled an extra practice on saturday night 3 sept. But for us they kindly agreed to move the rehearsal to a sport-hall on the other side of the road. This means there will be some people in the clubhouse at night who will move some instruments to and from there. I will ask them to use the middle doors of the building so there should be no or minimal disturbance for both of us. (We will not use the middle "room" of the building).
However, some are interested in my hobby and may want to have a look around. I hope you guys agree it's OK for them to do so, because they were so kind to move the rehearsal for us ! Drinks they consume will have to be paid by themselves so this will not "charge" our costs !
Also, there will be a small number of my personal friends at (part of) Eurocade. They will help me (us) with moving my cabs, or they will help my wife with the food and drinks. Some of them also really like to play...
It's just so you know that these people can be there. Also my son, and his best friend will be there. They know the rules about the games from my own gameroom so no need to worry ;)

EVERYBODY, please PM or mail me your Estimated Time of Arrival so we have at least some idea who will be here and when...
So, Friday or Saturday and some time indication (not to pin you down on it, just to get a general idea).
I _do_ kindly request to EVERYBODY to be on time, that is arrive between 10.00 and 12.00 hrs. The reason for this is that we want to have all the cabs up and running by 12.00 hrs. so we can all start enjoy playing them !

We got all new double glazing en facades recently. No more windows to be opened....but we can leave the doors open.
But do dress for hot temps ;)

BK is under repair. The way things look it'll still be at Eurocade 11.
A controllerboard pcb was malfunctioning. Forgot which one though ..... A guy I know -professional bicylcle pin-repair-guy took BK and he'll be modifing another Williams pcb to fit BK. He told me that it would be a slightly different pcb but that gameplay/sounds/lights won't be affected. Or else it's the easy (but expensive) route, get an original one.
Fingers crossed he makes it in time.

Some updates:
- Speleo_DE won't be able to bring his cocktail game (SLAM II) as he will come with his entire family and will need the space for their luggage.
Instead of that cocktail, Robin kindly agreed to put his Magical Spot 2 cocktail in that place.
- The "The Invaders" won't be coming because of big technical problems
Instead of that we can put up Arcadia Amusements Mystery Machine.
Vernimark let me know that since he was forced to change his holidays at work he and his friend cannot make it to Eurocade, which they both regret very much. Hope to see you next year Marco !!

I've been working on a new version of the Google Sketchup and it looks we can comfortably house all cabs now listed, and there _IS_ room for more, so if you are in doubt, bring a (extra) cab :)
File will be available for download soon, preview is already on the site....(don't download the file yet, it's still the old one....)
This will be more or less the general set-up. Note that the cab order is a total random one. The cabs will simply be placed in order of arrival, except for the pins, the cocktails and the cockpits...as you can see, there is room for some more !
Note that the wall-machines are not on this picture. Thought they might be nice for in the bar ;)

although I am not there, I say T2! I played it two weeks ago in an arcade an made it to the second level. Great game that makes a lot of noise. I like it when the machine says HURRY UP, when youre all stressed out searching for another coin in your pocket to play on.

Very cool, i think that we can glue the switches that i have prepared behind them..
perhaps we only need to drill the hole a bit bigger (i dont know the diameter of the hole ?)
I will take them with me tonight when i pass by, and prepare them !
(i dont know if they need to go back to thorsten? if so, i cannot drill them ofcourse..
Glue is not a problem, i use hotglue that is very removable)

Just phoned the guy repairing BK.
Yesterday he finished modifying the pcb. Installed testing software and the PCB responded great to these tests. Next up installing BK software on that baby. And installing it back in the machine.
A quick fit yesterday learned that the machine isn't responding but -as he said- that was to be expected and he will get it work "now that the hard part is over" (the mod on the PCB)
Not trying to built tension here but when I asked him "when can I collect BK" His respond was "that party is on saturday, right ..... probably friday afternoon before then, but I'm certain I'm gonna need that friday".
Wednesday I'm gonna call him again.

Some info for all visitors:
-weather forecast for friday and saturday looks pretty good for us. Temperature between 16 and 18 degrees C (GREAT for our gameroom) and mostly cloudy. Rain expected on Saturday though....but weather (forecasts) change quicker than you think in Holland ;D
- a simple lunch will be provided with rolls with ham or (Dutch!) cheese. Also available will be some typical Dutch snacks: kroket or frikandel (Tip: mustard on kroket, curry ketchup on frikandel ;) ) We'll also try to make some soup.
- since Eurocade has moved to the clubhouse, we have limited (or no) cooking facilities. Following this, we have decided to have a fixed time for dinner. The reason is that we want to order in Chinese/Indonesian food (hope you guys like that). Apart from that there will also be some other dishes, salads, chicken etc. We can easily sit 40 people in the bar area and thought it would be a lot of fun to eat all together "camp style". This will also be good for some social contacts and taking a brake from the screens and buttons ;)
So, at 18.00 hrs. we will switch off all games and lock the gameroom for half an hour/45 minutes....no exceptions.
If anyone has special food requirements please let us know ASAP !
Drinks are free throughout the day.
Food & drinks will be payed out of the voluntary donations piggybank in the end...so donate fairly ;)
- Power requirements:
1) We will provide all necessary power outlets. We have set up a plan because we have to think about how many cabs will be on one group at the same time etc. So please don't go re-arranging power outlets/connections yourself !!! IF you really need to change something, please contact one of the Crewmembers.
2) Please make sure your cab is electrically safe. This means: a grounded plug (German style) in good condition, mains wire in good condition and please make sure all the metal parts on your cab are connected to GROUND (check the wires to CP's especially !)
3) ALL groups are equipped with earth-leak switches. Any bad grounding situations on cabs may trigger these !!
This may not happen in your home or gameroom, but _can_ surface when connected at the clubhouse. This is another reason to make sure everything is in order.

Some bit sad news, Punckrockcaveman just informed me that the car that was supposed to pull his trailer had broken down....now he's left with a stationcar and can only bring one cab.
He choice for the original machine, PP II and I agree because we really need a racer !
Too bad, nothing anyone can do about....so if anyone can squeeze in another cab, we've got some extra room ;)

I don't want to make horror, but my Boss's car's turbo died in the weekend and the new part (cost 1500 eur) will arrive on friday, so we have to take Focus.The cab, drinks, arcade parts was loaded tonight, seems like we have enough place for the rest of the stuff, but we will look like a gipsy trailer. ;D

Interesting....may indeed be handy.......regarding this: there haven been some questions if there would be internet or even wifi at the clubhouse. The answer is...no.
We don't even have a regular telephone line and no TV reception either. This is partly because of costs but also because of everyone having a mobile phone these days. And we prefer to chat with each other at the bar instead watching TV....
Anyway, this will only contribute to the 80s feeling friends ;D
Of course there is mobile Phone reception and 3G available, we're not in a remote area....

1) For those bringing a cab: once you unloaded your machine, please drive OFF the premises again and park outside the clubhouse terrain. We're not allowed to have cars parked there !!! Also, the next cab might be waiting to unload ;)

Totally loved it all the way.
The best part was when it was dark outside, the gameroom definitely had that "lost in time" feeling.

Wow, I'm home ... it was so great!!!! Saw people I hadn't seen a long time and met brilliant new folks. Can it be better? No, I don't think so ... Thank you very very much for making this possible!!! Being part of this was an excellent experience. My cheers go to Andre and his crew, the familys that helped and to everyone whos name I will totally forget till the next meeting, because of the delicious schnaps Bela brought ;)

The location couldn't have been better (maybe a little cooler ;)) and the food was very delicious.
Thanks for pointing us to that amazing hotel. Comfortable rooms and great breakfast. Can't be beaten for that price!!

Just got back home. Guys, this was great. The people were great, the games were great, the food was great (and more than plenty), the location was great (though a bit hot), did I already say that the people, which are you guys, were great, and the atmosphere was superb. André's wife and a girlfriend took care of the cathering and they did an amazing job. Chapeau! :spaceace: It was also very nice to see that a lot of people enjoyed Gravitar. I especially had a lot of fun with Pole Position 2, Outrun, Star Wars of course, Berzerk, DK and Robotron (on the Joust/robotron multi board).
I enjoyed it very much to talk to a lot of old and new friends who I hadn't seen or spoken for a long time, and I got the chance to meet some other forum members who I hadn't seen 'live' yet. That was very nice.
It was also great to meet and speak with Aart van Vliet, the current Worldchampion of Galaxian (amongst others). Aart is a really nice and modest guy. After our Chinese dinner, whit the whole group, he started a game of Galaxian at André's cab with a Namco board which Robinholland had lended out generously. I watched the game and it all looked so damn easy. Almost every shot was a hit, and after a few hours there was a score of 555.550!!! :o With only one ship lost. I've never seen so many flags on the screen. Unfortunately Aart didn't have time to stay longer, so he had to quit the game, but he told André that his cab played like a dream, so who knows what the future brings.
Belike, thanks for Pooyan, you rock :D It was great to meet you and your gilrfriend, you are both very nice people. And the famous Hungarian schnapps only made one victim (who fortunately isn't aware of it himself). Don't let it stop you bringing some again the next time. :D
Muerto, I'm glad that you got back safe and sound, you must be tired as hell drivng all those kilometers with just a few hours sleep. I hope that you will be able to get a nice gameroom in the UK, because I want to see your collection one time.
Etiènne, thanks for the eighties music DVD's. I loved to watch them, they brought back some good memories.
ElPancho, Psykick and Pascal, I missed you guys, so I was very happy that you were there yesterday. We sure had some nice chats. Hopefully for the next edition of Eurocade we can include a few candy cabs, I'm sure that other people will enjoy them as well.
Punkrockcaveman and bencao74, you guys are amongst the nicest German people I've ever met (together with a lot of other German people who were there of course ;D ). It's nice to see that the SLG3000 got some good attention, it's a great device. And Jörg, thanks for the lessons of life.
Dirk and Thorsten, I hope, no, I'm sure that you had a great time also. You both know how nice it is to have such meetings or to visit them and I sure hope that we will keep on doing this in the future. I love you guys.
Andreas, it was great to meet you and your family again. I really like the way how you as a family enjoy the games and events like this. That is very rare.
Bruno, it was sure was nice to meet you, although I feel that I didn't chatted enough with you. But I'm sure that there will be a next time. I hope that you will stay on track with your Lair V3, unfortunately I can't say the same for myself.
André, thanks for initiating this great event, I enjoyed it to help you out here and there, together with the other crew members.

André thx very much for inviting me! I enjoyed finally meeting you! It was great meeting everyone, and i'm happy to see that among other things the "Arcade & Pinball scene" is still so very much alive! Special thanks to the organizers of Eurocade 2011, André Pieter Robin Etienne Erik simply excellent job, nice location, good food (next time a bit more plz lol), and what more can you say except that it was Hot as Hell :twisted: in Arcade Heaven!!
I think it's absolutely great that you guys brought your cabs, pins, et al, from all around Europe, especially those who live so many hundreds of km away from us... mucho respect, and thanks for letting everyone play on your games!!
Also to the girls behind the bar, thankyou for all the drinks & food! I definitely appreciate ppl who volunteer to do such a job & especially all day long!
To everyone who was at the event, my compliments to you, you are what keeps a little bit of the Classic Gaming Era alive... ;)
André your Galaxian cab is awesome and it played *superbly*, thx for letting me play on it!! Also Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man played very nicely :ghost: I love playing Galaxian & Ms. Pac-Man on an arcade cab! You were right tho that the joystick on Pac is definitely better than the one on MsPac. I won't comment on the few things that went wrong because there was so much that was perfect! :wink: Robin i forgot to tell you yesterday Big thanks for your Namco Galaxian board so that i could play that final game; you're a great guy and i had fun talking with you!! André when we both have some extra time i will definitely come back to your place for a record attempt or something, thanks for the invite!

I actually died twice by accident, and twice on purpose to get that final score after 1½ hours. ;D
It's unfortunate that the flags stop (showing) after wave 48, i too would have liked to have seen what flag 50 or 100 would look like :P. My game yesterday was around 150 flags total, and my personal record is 540 flags.

One final Thankyou, to André's wife, for driving me to the train-station! I was so beat, my feet were sore and i was getting a bad headache, and not looking forward to walking 10 min. to the busstop and waiting for the (last?) bus; so i am very thankful to André for asking if i would like a ride to the station and to his wife for driving me.
All-in-all the feeling is that i didn't pay enough entry-fee & that i donated much too little for the event...
I think 4x the current entry-fee would still be a good deal 8) Sry i didn't have any cabs to bring with me (would have looked funny in the train and bus), and i do apologize for forgetting to bring drinks or snacks :-\
I hope that this event can indeed be repeated annually, and that over the years it will grow! :)

What was the name of that game with all the red flags, I had never seen that one before ::)
It was incredible to watch play (while talking) while you were blasting those aliens with seemingly no effort at all.
It's like there was a bee magnet on your rockets and they were all drawn to it screaming "please, Art, kill me please".
(exactely the opposite as when I play actually).
I liked the fact that there was crowd gathering behind you to watch you play... I hadn't seen that in years, nice old school luna park feeling.
I myself had the time to watch your game for a moment then try every single cab around twice, check in at the hotel, have a relaxingtime in the sauna, read the whole millenium trilogy and come back to watch a little bit more of your game and count the extra lives ;D

My brother and I had a brilliant time too.
A big thank you to _everyone_ involved, it was (almost) too much to take in .... so many new faces, old and new tech begging for attention, so many stories, a world champion in our midsts....
Spending 10 minutes in the sun outfront of the cabs, eyes closed, all the noises in the background, beer at hand with a smoke....really took me back to the 80's ..... priceless.
Sheer brilliance all that stuff.
Could have easily been an event for 2 or 3 days.

yeah, André told me that you actually had to do some math at the end of your game to get the nice endscore of 555.550 shown on the screen. Amazing. :roll:

What can I say ? FInally found some time to write something here...
So much has already been covered. The feeling of the whole event was simply brilliant !
It was a lot of hard work, not just for the crew, but also for the people bringing their cabs. Some had to do a lot "Tetrissing" to get their machines out (Bruno !) and and f.i. bringing a Full Size SW trilogy arcade is not a "light" task !
There were no big problems (I think).
I was VERY VERY happy that we decided to use the clubhouse, it turned out to be the perfect location, it would have been impossible or very unpleasant to have done this in my gameroom/backyard. The only thing missing at the clubhouse was an air-conditioning, because the weather gods thought it was funny to give as the hottest day of this summer (up to 28 degr. Celsius) after MONTHS of terrible weather. Any way, this DID give it all a sunny (sea-side arcade) feeling, it was nice to sit outside and allowed us to bring all the cabs in without need for covers...
To my surprise I actually managed to play a good couple of games, although I also missed some (Outrun !!) and played too some too little (Q*bert !!!)
I was VERY VERY happy that my Star Wars cockpit performed perfectly for the entire day. It was up for 16 hours in one go (with one break of 45 minutes for dinner) without a single issue.....YES !!!!
As always it's the games you DON'T expect to fail that failed !
Full Eurocade damage report:
MC was the first heat-victim (I think most problems were heat related, maybe we should have taken off the backs....) but Michael had a spare board luckely and it worked fine ever since...
The Space Pirate (my god, what a beautiful machine it is, in such great condition still) had a few typical Cinematronics issues, but I managed to play it a couple of times.
The Centi showed some errors during play, thought I'd fixed it because the 5V was only 4.8 V on the board, so I upped it a bit, but I think the potmeter is a bit dodgy...
The Galaxian multi board froze at one point....I hope it's nothing serious....
The Ms.Pac started to produce weird graphics (sometimes) alhtough the game still ran. I guess overheated RAMs...(I forgot that some had a missing heat-sink).
Further damage:
1 hurt toe
2 cuts in hands
1 laptop full of coca cola (thanks to me :oops: :oops: :oops: (But it actually survived it and kept running the entire day and night)
1 broken ego ( ;D)
1 missing key (green label, Erik ?)
1 broken off wing of my Judge Dredd eagle....that's a bit sad (and stupid of me). The wing was already broken when I bought the JD, but I re-glued it and was good enough for me. It survived the trip to Eurocade, but on the backtrip it broke off at one point. We only discovered that when we arrived.
While driving back we found it on the road, but there were too many parts chipped of to rescue it.....
O well...I'll just take it off all toghether....
Anyway, much more to write but this is already WAY too long.
All in all, I loved organizing this and thank EVERYBODY for their part, without you it would have been impossible !!!!!!!!

There are always cabs dying during such an event. That's bad with the eagle....nothing you can fix or replace in an easy way :(
The Carnival also died during the evening but I hope it was only because of the heat inside. The metal plate of the power supply was so hot you could have baken an egg on it. Silly me has not paid attention to the bottom of the cab where the fan gets the cool air from. I assume it will run again when I power it up this evening :)

OK....some more thoughts.....(we just said goodbye and see you soon again to Andreas, Elke, Verena and Anna after a great day at Kinderdijk & Rotterdam).
The crew: Pieter, Erik, Robin, Etienne => Without you it would have been impossible to do !!!! I am SO happy that you guys agreed in helping me out to make Eurocade the success that it has become !! I'm proud !! And you guys rock ! :spaceace:
I know you also will agree with me that Etienne deserves an extra special THANK YOU because he did so many things...it's simply incredible !
The "girls behind the bar", Yolanda and Ria (and her man helped out too !) and of course my wife Wilma who shopped for all the food & drinks, cooked the chicken and meatballs and "served" everything, THANK YOU :spaceace:
Ruud, my "partner in crime" when it comes to doing the "BIG HAULES".....amazing...he arranged an even BIGGER trailer then the one we used to the Belgian warehouse. This one fitted a staggering 8 uprights PLUS the SW cockpit !! He also has a lot of muscle and speed to get all the things over quickly. :spaceace: (Elke made some nice picks of the transport back)...
And last, but definitely not least, all you CRAZY people who are INSANE enough to travel for hours and hours, take planes, trains and automobiles, load up the heaviest cabs you can find in your collection (;)) and drag them all the way to Ridderkerk....without you, Eurocade would have been nothing :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace: TO YOU ALL !!!
Financial note: It looks like we're going to be about break-even with the costs and "income". I'll publish a full report later....thank you all for donating so generously !!!
Final Eurocade thought: the atmosphere was simply brilliant. As far as I have experienced it everyone had a great time (and all the responses here seem to confirm this). Everyone was cool, relaxed, build up went smooth, lot's of people meeting again and lot's of people meeting for the first time, I think this is what makes this little community so great. So a big no HUGE thank you to Bruno, because without the DLF/ALS forum Eurocade would never have existed ! :spaceace:
Then....there was this ULTIMATE gift I had the honor to receive from Dirk & Thorsten (Capt.Kirk & Luigi): A Q*bert cabinet !!!!

Yes it is an empty shell. But the shell is in GREAT condition for a Q*bert. Of course I already "found" the CP (thanks to Bruno !!!), I already have a fresh new "swearing" marquee, the original knocker and of course I reserved one of the NOS Wells Gardner monitors for it. The rest will follow soon enough.
In fact, it's good that it's an empty shell, because now I can do the outside work first for a change ;)
Oh, one more thing it was great fun to see some of the music club members (who had a rehearsal in the "gym" across the road, they moved because of Eurocade !) had such great fun with the games....some they played for the first time ever. This is an indication that there could be a wider interest for these games still with the general public.
ANyway, too long post alarm is ringing....

Owww...something I forgot: Thanks to ALL for totally respecting esp. the "no drinking" rule in the gameroom....I think the separate bar helped a lot in this, but still I know this is a bit of a hard rule to follow (even I had to think about it one time....). How important that one is was proven by my accident pooring coke into Etienne's laptop....you never know how it can happen.
Also, the NO FARTING rule seemed to be totally respected....at least, I thought the room smelled pretty fresh, although some of the music club members mentioned it smelled because of the old machines running (we arcade-idiots either don't notice that anymore, or simply love it :P).
Of course, this rule, and the NO CAB MOLESTING were a bit of a joke. We wanted to put up the famous "houserules" sign, but the NO LOITERING rules seemed pretty dumb, because the whole point about Eurocade is LOITERING with friends ;)
Also the NO GAMBLING rule seemed pretty silly. So Etienne and I exchanged a couple of ideas and this is what Etienne came up with in the end. I though they were pretty funny (but nobody commented on them ;))
Of course I have to give credit to the arcade club in Frankfurt for the "emergency escape to cab" sign. The idea was "borrowed" because we liked it so much. I really hope they are not cross with us for this :)
Also, something a lot of you guys might have missed, but the piggybank Zacc (once emptied of course) was generously donated to Béla by Etienne. The reasons, well of course he is the "master Zacc collector" in Europe and he came from SUCH a great distance, plus providing all those drinks and parts for a lot of people and being such a great guy ;)
However Béla, what we forgot to mention is that like the girl who catches the flowers thrown backwards by a bride after the wedding party, the one who "catches" the piggy-bank is the next Eurocade organizer !

It was incredible to watch play (while talking) while you were blasting those aliens with seemingly no effort at all.
It's like there was a bee magnet on your rockets and they were all drawn to it screaming "please, Art, kill me please".
(exactely the opposite as when I play actually).
Okay i confess, i was using the secret heat-seeking missile mode.
I liked the fact that there was crowd gathering behind you to watch you play... I had'nt seen that in years, nice old school luna park feeling.
There was a crowd?! :o I saw 2 or 3 ppl i thought that was all. I didn't really see, i was trying to shoot all the aliens before they probed me. :)
I myself had the time to watch your game for a moment then try every single cab around twice, check in at the hotel, have a relaxingtime in the sauna, read the whole millenium trilogy and come back to watch a little bit more of your game and count the extra lives ;D

"Moest nog even rekenen" ja... :) Well it wasn't calculus, but when you get to within for example 150 points you have to be careful not to shoot a purple and green in-flight, because that's 80+60 and you can't get 10 points. And a red 100 + green 30 is no good either, coz you can't score 20! :P Math is actually a fun "exercise" to try to do while playing, because apparently (at least for me!) when you are playing a shooter or maze game and using your brain to avoid enemies, the part of your brain used for mathematical calculations is (partially) "occupied", which can make even simple math hard to do during a game!
I miss playing the cabs already lol

Hey Aart, it was great meeting you after some nice e-mails between us !
It was amazing to watch you play, while in the mean time answering some questions from people etc.
I have to say that Aart actually liked the idea of doing an official world record try at Eurocade. HOwever it was a bit of a short time still to arrange that because it would have required an exactly right board set, a good reliable camera set-up and not the least a good reliable working board set.
Since my own board set has the multi kit installed, the try would have been invalid anyway.
However , as mentioned the board failed during Eurocade, so i was pretty happy that we didn't try it.
(Aart scored that 555550 on Robins board that was "flow in " quickly after dinner...)
As mentioned, You ar always welcome for just a game or two ;) or a serious WR try, it would be totally cool to have it set on my Galaxian.....

It's unfortunate that the flags stop (showing) after wave 48, i too would have liked to have seen what flag 50 or 100 would look like :P. My game yesterday was around 150 flags total, and my personal record is 540 flags.

Man.....I don't know but my bad luck doesn't seem to stop. Since I had cleaned up the gameroom and sorted a lot of stuff, I wanted to put one of my very large plastic boxes back on the stand, right on top. The box is heavy and the stand has those nice sharp edges esp. on the top where I have to put this box....
Naturally my left middle finger got caught under the box, RIGHT at the corner of the stand.
I won't make a picture because it looks REALLY nasty but my nail is in pieces....
Great now I have a hurting right toe and a hurting left middle finger... :evil: :twisted: :evil: :twisted:

Hi Folks,
Just returning from Eurocade 2011, did add some days of vacation in the Netherlands - Delft and Amsterdam.
We arrived home with two new cabs in the collection: A Tank II and a Super Breakout.
Both picked up from their temporary location in Neustadt at Dirk/Thorsten.
Not much to add really after all of the compliments, just want emphasize it was a nicely organized event and we really felt like being moved back in time.
The Gravitar was my Cab of the evening though I really liked the variety of game choices :D
Will spend some tome looking at the Space Pirate PCBs to get the vectors aligned and the sound repaired ;)

Some of you may remember this older guy in the game room.

His name is Marius and he's a member of the orchestra and one of the nicest guys around.
He was enjoying some pinball after the rehearsal. Then he wanted to try Ice Cold Beer but didn't figure how to start it.
So Michael (at least I think it was Michael by the description he gave me) said "You have to push, PUSH", to which Marius replied (his foreign language is limited) "Ik heb helemaal geen poes !".
To understand that you have to know that "poes" is pronounced a little bit like Push but the word poes means...Puss..... so translated he replied, "But, I don't at all have a puss...." ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

As a big toy fan the thing I missed are the big toy’s , zit down racers and motor racers
Fun thing when looking at my star wars at location it looks quit big,
but when located in my game room id didn’t look that big

Time to share some info about last Eurocade. ASAP I will post the results of the survey, but first I wanted to "open the books" for you all to see.
We want to do this because we want you to know where your hard earned money went
So here is our very simple but clear balance:
Received:
Entree fee (€5 per person) : € 185
Donations in mini Zacc: € 493
_____________________________
Total: € 678
Costs:
Food, snacks etc.: € 130
Drinks: € 116
Chinese food: € 210
Rent of clubhouse: € 190
Electricity (121 kWh !) € 23
_____________________________
Total: € 669
Notes:
1)The Drinks amount is so low mainly because of so many of you bringing drinks to Eurocade, THANKS for that !
2)The donations were a very good amount indeed so BIG THANK YOU to all of you for kindly donating.
3)Some stuff is not on this balance. Etienne had his costs in the mini Zacc, the printing matter (NOTE: ONLY SHIPPING COSTS, all printed matter were FREE outside of shipping costs, but still). Etienne made these costs his donation to Eurocade
4)Everybody noticed that there was WAY too much Chinese food. We were with about 45 people eating (incl. helping friends etc.) Still, as I know it's ALWAYS too much at a Chinese, I ordered for only 30 people....!!!
So.....quite amazingly, as you can see we almost had a perfect coverage ! The extra 9 euro's were included for a small gift for Ruud who helped me out so immensely by transporting almost all my cabs in one go back and forth, so I felt he deserved a small gift for his time, petrol and efforts.

Very good balance ! , so in general it was like 15€ per person for a fantastic day !
Thats a bargain in times like we live in ! , i mean take a few beers at a terras on a sunny afternoon somewere ;)
dont want to be anal, but you forget the official Eurocade crewmembers T-shirts on my part ;)
PS if anyone like to have a banner that was used at eurocade, i have the opportunity to have them print some times when the banners are on offer
(and by "on offer" i mean only shipping costs)
The 3 banners that where there went to 3 crewmembers as a souvenir so they are not available, but i can still let them print new.
Also i am very happy with the result of the piggybank, it did exactly what its purpose was, and now it is on a VIP shelf as i have heard ;)

Im glad the money covered it all (...) but i still wote for a total price, lets say €25 pr. person that attends the next EuroCade, of course, donations is still acceptable.. (hopefully the next EuroCade will be twice as big as the '11 was, hence the higher fee, and still, like Etienne said, where could you go and have fun with 30+ of you friends for that little money, and yes, €25 is some kind of money, but in this hobby, it's a small ammount)
And.... 121kWh!!! Wauw!! Well, xx Oldsch00l cabs running 23+ hours, some Co2 must be created!

Those are tiles glued to the real wall to provide some sound isolation/damping but have this ugly blue look...
