Title: I want to create a cocktail table.
Post by: WEARESAVIORS on January 21, 2011, 11:45:33 PM
Hi guys,

So I want to create a cocktail-table this summer.
But I don't know how to start on building the table itself, since I'm not really a wood-craftsman.

So I'm gonna ask some stupid questions:
1) I wanna make something like the image above, does anyone have some example plans?
2) Which program is the best for drawing plans for the cabinet?
3) (this is a really stupid question) If I want to create a hole in the wood for putting in the coin-door for example, which tools do I need?

That's all for now I guess

WOOPS: this was suppose to be posted in the technical area, can anybody move this?

Hi,

I have a table looking exactly like that. I will pull out the meter and provide you the measures by tomorrow. Though I would suggest to get an universal table ... There are many of the out there for almost nothing.

Cheers, prc

If your unhandy with wood, then make a good technical drawing and have a woodshop CNC everything from a sheet of multiplex. Then it's only a glue-job.
Sketchup is good for 3D concept making, but you will need a CAD program to make a CNC-able file. Sketchup is bad in exporting polylines and curves.

English is many of these guys second or third language. I'd love to have the grasp these guys have as i'm sure now you've just thought about it, you would too.

It's not that I don't know how to work with wood, I've restored a few cabinets already.
But it's a different thing building it from zero, and I wanted to learn this.

And I've got this idea for a cocktail cabinet that I wanted to build so a regular won't do.

And sorry for the misspelling of cocktail, it just sounded weird in my head to write it with a c

Good Luck...
(again, with a bit of patience, it's not that hard to find for little money, maybe think again about modifying an existing one...)
