Today was a fantastic day. I could now pick up my favorite device, a crystal castles from atari. :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
I have long searched for this cab, and had already before more than a year contact with the seller. Unfortunately he did not sell then the cab, or only for too high a price. after I month before a phone call with the seller, then we can agree on a price, and he is still very high. but I just could not say no, because this cab is found very rarely from a German compilation. ensure the cab is in a beautiful state in the German language.
Here is an overview of the current tour within Germany:
Trollenhagen <-> Göttingen

Wow that one seems to be in _very_ good shape !!!
Congrats, it really fits well next to the Millipede !
-
is it a europe build? ore a import? Very nice cabinet!
-
what a great catch, toralf! you've been talking about this for quite a while - and now you finally have it. congrats, looking fabulous next to that millipede! :-*
-
pff what a catch! One of the most amazing arcade cabinets I think. For instance, just underneath the Marquee, it's really 3D :o
I saw one at Paul's 50's place and it's so beautiful. The color schemes on the sideart are so fresh :o :o
-
thanks guys. ;)
yes, the cab is in pretty good condition. the seller has buy them private in the late 1980s from a german coinop business.
my cab is built in usa, but especially FOR EUROPE (germany). on the factory labels stands 220 volt! I think that CC-Cabs was not built in Ireland, the europain cabs was all imported in 1983 or so to europe.
or does anyone have other information, or a cc cab with a label from ireland?
-
Great catch! I had the opportunity to buy one recently, but i had no more free space :'(
Anyhow, the machine was not is good conditions as yours
-
That's one beautiful cabinet you got there!
Congratulations, I like the Escher style (http://www.bloggen.be/artiest_escher/archief.php?ID=81582) gameplay and site art a lot.
-
Even If I'm not a big fan of the game itself, this cabinet is one the most beautiful one, congratulation!
This is not a common game, well done and thanks for sharing this story with us :-*
Of course

My deepest congratulations time pilot!!! :!:
This cab is really of piece of art imho.
And... I have to confess I bought that crystal castles from Paul a few weeks ago. ::)
I had been drooling over it on ebay for so long and members here recently encouraged me to make a lower offer.
...and Paul made me a very sweet deal indeed!
I asked him for a long time storage because I haven't any room for it at the moment.
Sadly no roadtrip then, because Paul ships for so cheap, but I'll post pictures here when I'll receive it.
I like it better when there is a story behind the cab I buy (meeting the owner like you did and so on...)
but I couldn't resist buying it straight from Paul because it's not an easy one to catch.
And yes: I bought this game 75% for the cabinet and 25% for the game itself!

congrats, chris! CC is definitely in my top 3 must-have-list. i don't understand why CC doesn't get that much love, i think the game rocks big time, is absolutely challenging, has a lot of secrets to discover, great graphics and one of the best cabinets around. this game ranks 10 out of 10 for me!!!

Smart. You could easy fit a centerpide or millipede board in there and still have blast! thats what i would do becaus of the space isue.

Thanks Ully & Vnera!
...maybe it was just a teenager issue: back in the days, I was just afraid to play with a teddy bear in front of the cool chicks at the arcade. :D
I might have a second opinion on the game itself when I'll play it a little bit more in the privacy of my livingroom (which is not exactly crowded with cool chicks at the moment).

show me a gameroom which is and i'll be there in a heartbeat ;)
-
Indeed, congratulations are in order. This cab seems to be in very, very good condition, you must feel very lucky. And although I don't get the gameplay either, the cab is stunning, a very nice sight in every gameroom.

Oh, yes that was a really fun night, thanks again André!
I think I left a sock in your SW cockpit, could you check when you wake up?
-
Very cool catch, Crystal Castles has one of the nicest cabs ever, though the game sucks ;D
or does anyone have other information, or a cc cab with a label from ireland?
Hm, I'm pretty sure that ours is irish built, but I'd have to check to be sure.

Atari Ireland did not make any Crystal Castles cabinets. They were all imported from the USA. You will see they were built for Europe however and have the correct 220-240 volt markings on the serial sticker.
-
Congratulations on the CC!!! :spaceace: - yours it in better condition than mine!
And your picture in the monitor is WAY better than mine too!... what´s your high score?? ;D
-
then FINALLY sell it to me - i will pester you forever until you do!!! ;D
I knew you were going to say this ;D
No way, after all the hassle we had with this game I will take it to the grave with me.
After all, bad gameplay is alright, I hardly ever play the games anyway ;D ;D ;D
-
I knew you were going to say this ;D
I HAD TO!!! 8)
After all, bad gameplay is alright, I hardly ever play the games anyway ;D ;D ;D
right, all you do is sit in your pole position cockpit and watch the sun rise and set each day ;D
-
right, all you do is sit in your pole position cockpit and watch the sun rise and set each day ;D
Not possible, I hardly ever open the roller shutter :D
And I decided not to go near that bloody damn PP of hell since the monitor decided that he'd have enough and started spraying funny sparks :P
Not because I am afraid of the sparks but because I am afraid to rip the game apart with my bare hands >:( ;D
Fortunately I just managed to repair our Speedway, so who needs PP anyway ;D http://www.marvin3m.com/arcade/cspeed.htm

Damn, so that was jamming the yoke all the time ! I'll post it ASAP ;)

Took a look, US built indeed, never noticed this. The sticker also looks different, it's not a silver one, looks a bit like a xerox.
I wonder why they didn't bulit them in Ireland? Interestingly the manual speaks of irish built machines for some parts.
Maybe noone except Ully was interested in the game so they thought it'd be cheaper to ship a handfull of machines over the pond ;D

Mad isn't it. I have noticed only Lunar Lander and Crystal Castles are like this so far. There may be a few others, but nearly everything I have checked since Asteroids onwards was built in Ireland also.

could be the case, unfortunately they forgot to send one over to me, but instead, it landed in someone's house who doesn't care about that game at all :P

Yeah, shame on people like that. At least I like to look at it, such a beautiful cab ;D
-
It probably just sold much worse then they expected....so they sent over the remaining machines....
Alpha is right about the first machines beginning to be build in Ireland (everything pre 1980 is US built, so was my Dominos) but does anybody have a clue when they stopped production in Ireland ?
How about the System x machines ?

The Atari Ireland factory turned into a Namco factory after it's demise. A UK collector called XY-Man went over to the Atari Ireland factory when it closed down and took everything that was left in it.
This included:
1 prototype Metal Maniax machine
Quite a few Atari CAT boxes
All the master roms
All internal documentation between Atari US and Atari Ireland
leaflets, flyers, other documentation
any left over games

holy cow! he got a lot of rare stuff!!!

very nice crystal castles! looks perfect. me too I just fixed mine thanks to scr££n who gave me a working G07 chassis the other day, game pcb works but I need to replace the 3 shafts (rollers) in the trackball otherwise impossible to play (anybody knows where to get new ones possibly in europe?). btw, a licensed european cc cab exists and was made by bertolino in italy, looks almost the same. mine is american though...fun game and great looking cab.
-

i would order them from dave at ramcontrols. quality is perfect and shipping to europe isn't expensive!

For those interested: yesterday I noticed that our Sprint 1 is Irish buiilt. This supposedly came out in 1978, so could this be the first/one of the first that was made there? Avalanche and Super Bug are both from '77 and are still US built.
CORRECTION: Avalanche is also from 1978, but ours is made in USA:
