Title: my next restoration(s) - what'll it be???
Post by: Superully on July 25, 2010, 05:42:39 PM
school holidays are approaching fast and with a lot of current restorations close to being finished, i'm already planning my next projects. there are some which i'd love to get started (like Death Race), but simply can't because not all of the reproduction parts are available. in no particular order, here are the ones which are "available" right now:

- moon patrol
- domino man
- championship sprint
- pac-land
- jungle king
- ikari warriors

i could also do galaga and ms pac-man, but i don't know when the replacement artwork for the first is going to arrive (andré?) and for the latter i don't want to spend that much money on the stencils at the moment, that's why i'm pushing those two cabinets back a little bit!

as for the others: i have collected most of the parts needed, some are still coming in, but once i'm done with the cabinet's shell, all the parts should be here!

so guys, which restoration(s) would you like to see next? you can choose more than one, because i'm planning on working at two or three games simultaneously 8)

the problem with moon patrol is going to be finding the right blue for the touchups of the artwork. i've never seen a shade of blue like the one used on the cabinet  ???

Jungle King and Ikari Warriors, who knows why.....! ;D ;)

I vote for championshiop sprint and jungle king: the first one because i am in love with "sprint" series games, the second one because i have never seen a jungle king in decent shape and the "Ully-restoration-process-TM" will give to that machine a new birth ;)

Easy:

#1: - moon patrol / - jungle king
#2: - domino man
#3: - championship sprint
#4: - Ikari Warriors
#5: - pac-land

About the Moon Patrol color: why not bring it into the DIY store for a color sample ? It's only 4 stories down and back up again....... :D

To help you out with this I offer to bring the MP down stairs. Then load it into my car so you don't have to worry about the color matching and/or dragging it back up again.  ;D ;D

very kind of you, andré, but where's the where you're dragging the cabinet back up again into MY apartment alone? ;) ;) ;)

serious: of course i've been thinking about having the colors scanned, but the problem are the 4 stories down and up again. PLUS: patrik has to drop out for a couple of weeks because of a herniated vertebral disk - ouch :o! that's what you get from carrying too many arcade games around ... :-[

It's a good thing we don't live in the US Ully, because Patrick would probably sue you !

Sorry to hear, give my regards to Patrick, he's a nice bloke !

So there's no CP or something small to take to the store ? I did read that there are "wireless"(forgive me, can't think of a better word) scanners too, but who will lend out one of those expensive things ?

nope, nothing small with the same colors and from what i've heard, those mobile scanners are crap. i'll have to think about the color matching problem some more. unfortunately for my part but luckily for bruno his moon patrol cab doesn't need touchups or he's happy with the way his cab looks, because otherwise i would have waited for another round of his famous "cab drive-in scan stories" ;D

Just go to your storage, put a blind fold on and tick two or three cabs because it really doesn't matter which ones you do next. They all will be exciting to follow while getting the SUPERULLY TREATMENT  :spaceace:

Ully, what about your Joust 2? Are you waiting for Andrè to work on the board? Have you reinstalled the electrical parts? Your vacations could be perfect to go on also with this proj, aren't they?  ;)

joust 2 is almost done, all the electrical parts are in there, but the power supply is shot (led1 is out). i was told i could either rebuild the original power supply or - what's obviously better - replace it with a switcher. with the help of colin (thx man), i've ordered two williams power supply replacement kits for both my moon patrol and the joust 2. they are on their way from belgium to germany as we speak, so by the end of the week i should know whether the boards are working or not. thx for asking, i'll keep you posted!

the games YOU have decided to get the Superully Treatment are (thankfully) exactly the games I was gunning / hoping for:

- Moon Patrol
- Jungle King
- Domino Man

it's going to take a while before the restorations threads will pop up, but rest assured: the restorations are on their way ... :)

alright guys, time to dig out an old topic of mine (hopefully not too old to get your attention). with moon patrol finished, jungle king waiting to be wired in the christmas holidays and frogger being in its final stages i have space for probably one more game up here, so please help me decide which one it should be and which one you'd like to see (i'll give you some options). there are games i could finish within a day (like klax) or a week max (like galaga), but i'd prefer one which might take a little while longer to keep me occupied ;)

so here are the candidates (if anything else comes to your mind, feel free to post it):

- death race
- championship sprint
- a nintendo game (junior, 3 or mario bros widebody)
- domino man
- zookeeper
- rampage
- a b/w game (night driver, gun fight, sea wolf, ...)

the most complicated out of those games would definitely be death race!

Of course Death Race !!!!

LOVED playing it again at Funspot after 30 years. One of the very first I played. My bro loved the theme, it was very radical BITD. Besides its a unique cab shape and the artwork is fabulous. And its a BW :)

No and it makes the whole point of this thread useless.

You're just to scared to start on that Death Race, aren't you Ully ? It's too big a challenge even for you, right ?  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :) :) :) :) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

every single time we carry a game up into my apartment patrik asks me "when are you going to do THE GHOST?" (referring to death race). fact is: i have all the parts i need here (along with a nice surprise), so i guess death race is going to be the next candidate 8)! there's only one thing that could stop me: the cabinet's size: it is oddly shaped and i'm not 100% positive it will fit through the stairwell. i will have to do some measuring first befire we get stuck in the middle ...

Indeed it is oddly shaped !

Glad my little teasing seems to work ;) ;)

Death Race is so......essential. So basic. And so f-ing rare over here ! Get it ready for Eurocade 201x ;)

change of plans: unfortunately the DEATH RACE cabinet is just too bulky to get up into my apartment, i had to pick another game as my next resto project instead for the christmas holidays (well, at least that's when the restoration is going to start :P).

it's a damn rare game over here in europe and one that a lot of people consider as one of the best arcade games EVER! ladies and gentlemen, i present you

as far as i know no water damage but the usual wear and tear at the bottom because the base has fallen off / is missing entirely. those taito bases were of such a poor quality, they were meant to be destroyed!

I like this kind of marque lighting systems that taito used.

Goodluck with the resto Ully!

Excellent. I have been following Zoo Keeper youtube clips for years now. Looks like a real frenzy blast to play on an arcade, great fun.
Will be following this resto very closely. Not that I want to put pressure on you or anything. :)

I think you should do a Taito Space Invaders Part 2 upright so you can you myself and Remi. Failling that, Ikari Warriors.

no pressure at all, the resto will DEFINITELY start in the christmas holidays (have to get the cab up first though). can't wait myself!
