Title: Nintendo "Red Tent" NOS *UPDFATE* JAMMAFIED
Post by: Psykick on May 30, 2010, 02:06:01 AM
Well guys here it is, the one you were discussing about in the other thread. It really is a very exclusive and nice cab. It could very well be that there are more, because the seller said that there will be one more up for sale, but that that one was not in such good shape. This one is just unbelievable. I'm really in love, I know it's not the most beautifull cab f them all, but a four player cab in this condition is already something to die for. Later I will make a JAMMA adapter and plug in some other games and see what that'll be like. One thing is for sure, this cab will definitely be played on. Here some pics, enjoy ;)

Really cool ! Do we agree that this cab is somewhat like the very first candy ? I mean, you have to sit at it, the screen is tilted towards you (unlike cocktails) and well, at least the P1,2,3,4 buttons are candy color ;)

Indeed looks NOS ! Would be cool to play 4-player. Now, get Mario !

Hey, something just crossed my mind: Vs. Super Mario is actually not Vs. at all ! It's just a 2 player games with alternating play ! This sucks IMHO.

It would be much cooler to run a Mario Bros. PCB in that machine. This truly is a cool 2 player game.

Thnx for the tip Level42, will try to look for it, sounds cool to me!

How does it actually work technically with the monitors in this machine ? Are the signals simply the same going to both monitors ?
If not, it will be hard to run a MB PCB in there while sitting on opposite sides. That would be cool IMHO.
Sitting side to side will be a lot more "tight".

Thinking about it, I think it has separate signals for both sides right ? I mean, the players with Vs. Tennis see themselves on from the back on each side right ?

Well I'm gonna check that one of these days when I'll try an attempt at making the JAMMA adapter. Shouldn't be all too hard though, will make it work in the end ;) Keep you posted...Cheers

Since its NOS, im curiouse what the coin counter says

does it have a very low number ?

Post by: ckong on May 30, 2010, 11:51:03 PM
I have to take back what I said in the other thread, this is a beauty. I mean, it is not a regular classic wooden cab, but it sure is a classic NOS Nintendo cab from the early eighties. Everything looks, and probably is, brand new. A really great catch. I noticed that you have it in your house, I would love to play it the next time that I visit you.

What does the coin counter accept? You are talking about putting Jamma in it, but I suppose that you will do it in such a way without having to change something on the original wiring and electronics, do you? Anything else would be an act of crime.

You're most welcome Erik to have a go at it, when you play it you'll even like it more. I also didn't thought I would like it this much.

Of course I won't be tampering with anything of the machine, just a soldered adapter that I can plug in and out, simple and clean  ;)

As for the coin counter, they both read something with 99999...., this means they aren't even at 000000... Where they start when they go into explotation. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Wow that counter setting IS NOS !

The coin inserts say $0,25, it's a 120VAC machine and it has "US" in the typenumber, this has to be a machine meant for the US market that never reached the US OR it was imported from the US to Europe. So I guess the coin used is US quarters.

Does anyone know where the red tents were actually build ? Japan or US ?

Finally got the time to perfectionize it and make a JAMMA adapter without any sacrifice. So got the pinout of the tent and made a nice adapter that plugs in the stock connectors and leads to JAMMA to have some VS fun on this fantastic machine. There are some problems with it that needed to be overcome, one is that the colors for the Nintendo hardware are inverted and I had to find out how to invert it back for normal JAMMA play. Fortunately it was only a switch on the motherboard that does the trick. Easily turned back when you want to play the original hardware  The funny thing is that it's nowhere to be found on the web, you just need to check and find out for yourself. The next thing is that you need to customize your fingerboards with a dremel, did a quick job and wasn't all too clean, but hey I was in a rush and it works a charm, so no fuss. The other thing is that you have four control panels and you need to figure out which one you need to wire from JAMMA to VS. to make player 1 sit on one side and player two on the other side, but both in front of the monitor instead of the controls on the right side. Sounds difficult, but with some trial and error you get the job done hehe.. Anyway here is the result and I must say that I'm very happy with it and I'm very eager to play all sort of nice classics against or with 2 players in the future  8-)
Btw if anybody has some nice tips for 2 player games that can be played with 2 buttons against or together, please let me know and I'll start hunting

Thnx Erik, yeah definitely didn't want fiddle with the cab, if this was not possible I simply would have just left it original, which is already awesome. This is just a wonderful bonus  ;)

Well Vib, technically it is possible, but haven't connected it to play 4 players yet. I don't think Sunset Riders supports 4 player btw. The boards that support 4 player should be easily connected, but like I said haven't wired for that yet, but will hunt down a simpsons or turtles to try that out ;)

Thnx, I'm also really happy with it, just is a different experience when your cab is this clean, you know what I mean  :D

Gyruss !!!

Congrats, I saw this one in person when just picked up :P

Was great meeting you (again) and your girlfriend for the first time, great to see a woman who is so enthusiastic about the games ! :D

Hopefully I can receive you guys in a more operational gameroom next time !

It's so funny how cabs seem to go round sometimes, I'm sure this is one of the machines I saw earlier in the stacks at the Jukeboxstore... one lovely machine....

She loved your bezerk cab, and don't worry about the gameroom, it was still very cool the see your collection. ;D

The guys I got the tent from told me they bought 3 (or 4) of them from the place in Vlaardingen.
They where stashed in the back and they picked the best looking ones. The guy who sold them didn't know the real value of them and so they where also able to take out pcb's from the remaining ones.
They told me the cabinets where supposed to be put in use at the ferry traveling to the UK, but didn't catch on because they were too late and other, better looking games were out.
The sellers also told me some were working on dollars and some on guldens.

I think it's a really great machine, very solid, easy to use and lots of great games.
