Title: Road Trip - Pac-Man's all around me.

Today it was time to collect a few machines which have been on my wish list for quite some time now, and fortunately they were not too far away. And I also got a few machines for other collectors. Most of you know in the meanwhile where they were: at Paul’s 50’s place.

Date: 4 March 2010
Author: ckong
Target: Pac-man’s and Galaga
Trip: Holland – Germany - Holland
Total length: 352 kilometers
Duration: 12 hours (with brakes)

Not much of a road trip, so I will keep it short. I left at 8 AM this morning to a place in Hengelo where I have a temporary storage. There I changed from vehicle.

Old:

New. Looks familiar, doesn’t it André?

I noticed that it still is wintertime

I arrived at Paul’s place at 11.20 AM, and the weather was clearing up.

I didn’t have time to take photo’s from his warehouse, but you can see enough of them here: https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=1384.30

Paul was alone at the time of loading of the cabs, but he still helped me with the loading. Thanks Paul, you rescued my back. After the cabs were in the van, it looked like this:

Soon after the loading (I first went back inside to check out his beautiful pinball machines again) I went home again. One thing you see quite often in Germany: windmills. This is because of the longlasting subsidy people get for building and operating windmills, so there is a high certainty that they will have a return on investment.

Back in Holland

The weather is really nice now. Oh look, another classic:

After having a late lunch, nothing special, just a sandwich and milk, I arrived back home at about 3.45 PM. I started to unload the Pac-man cabs for a nice line up and a group photo (which will be famous in 25 years  ;D ):

One Pac-man is for Ronald Reagan and one Ms. Pac-man is for Gyruss. In the van there still is a Galaga, but she is a bit shy and didn’t want to come out. I loaded my cabs back in the van again because they will be stored in a temporary storage, where I left for after dinner.

Here is a photo of pac-man and Galaga together. By the way, all Pac-Man cabs at Paul have a Ms. Pac-man marquee and gameboard. But the cabs are original Pac-Man cabs.

And mine is a real early one, it has serial number 199 stamped in it (which number also is on a little ticket on the inside.

That’s it, mission accomplished, and I now have a Galaga, a Pac-Man and a Ms. Pac-Man for my future gameroom. They will all need some restoration work, both technical and cosmetical (new paintjob, including art stenciling. Ully, I might need your expertise when I am ready for that.).

nice lineup with the pacs, erik! but i must correct you in one tiny detail: GALAGA is definitely NOT a SHE ;)

btw, i had planned to pickup my games tomorrow, but the weather forecast is so horrible ("everyone who doesn't necessarily has to hit the road should stay at home") that i will probably cancel!

Yeah that van looks VERY familiar. As I said before, you deserve a "frequent flyer" bonus from Sixt ;)

Damn man, it hurts to see those pics.......I mean I'm really happy for you guys but it's pretty shitty to be "so close" to a Ms.Pac and not be able to score one...... :-\

Yeeeeehhhaww!!!  8)

Awesome catch! Ms Pac Man & Galaga are almost impossible to find here in Europe, except if you import them directly.

I'm happy to see you didn't miss the opportunity to catch them'  ;) Congratulation, and welcome to you and other owners to the "Ms Pac Man / Galaga owners club"   ;D :)

Thanks for the story  :-*

For immediate release of course

Holy Jesus! Such pictures are usually done in USA, where you can find "easily" these cabinets... but... you're pictures are ... done in Europe! Awesome  ;)

Thanks Ckong, thank you for the warm welcome at your place. We just arrived back safely. The cabs are at the moment in my livingroom  ;), where we are eating a snack and drinking beer.
We still can't believe we are the new owners of such beautiful classics! I just transfered the remaining amount of money.

BTW you have a very friendly wife and a nice house, although if you try to find it when it's dark and really snowy outside, you might get lost

I went to the storage today to pick up an Egret 3 which I have for sale. Of course I just had to check out pac-man and galaga again. I seem to remember that both games were not working after I collected them at Paul's place, Galaga was totally dead and pac-man showed a lot of 'gargle' on the screen, so today I took out the game boards to see at home if they work properly (on a jamma cab with an adapter) and if they could be the problem. Funny thing is that on the game board which was inside the pac-man, there is a sticker which mentions 'Super Ms. Pac-man'. I googled for it, but I couldn't find any info on it. There is no daughter board, but there seems to be some kind of hack done on the board. I will post pictures of it later.

I did take some detail pictures.

Is this pac-man cab really nr 199! I mean, there were thousands built.

Who is PACKMEN? Never heard of him.  ???

Just some more pics, because I love it.

Yeah, that's funny. IIRC Packman is also used in the manuals. Guess they had decided to change the u in Puckman, but didn't drop the k yet....

VERY nice low serial number, wow !!! Thousands built ? How about 100.000 ?

Many years have gone by, and I'm still enjoying my Pac-Man (Ms. Pac left me a few weeks ago  :'( )

Anyway, some time ago I got a multi pac kit and I thought it would be nice to have a matching marquee. So, I handed some artwork to MacGyver (who else) who arranged a reversed printjob for me, with the art printed on the sticky side (how do they do that?), I got myself a 4mm thick glass plate and apllied the art today. Difficult job, because you will see each air bubble and dust particle, especially at all the white parts. But after some sweat and a lot of rubbing this is the result. Looks nice, doesn't it?

(http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f307/ckong65/Pac-Man/Multipac%20Marquee_zpso6ksvxte.jpg) (http://s50.photobucket.com/user/ckong65/media/Pac-Man/Multipac%20Marquee_zpso6ksvxte.jpg.html)

The flash light makes it look very bright. Fortunately that is not the case in reality.

Next up are two Nintendo VS. bezels, Dr. Mario and Vs. Super Mario Bros, at the backside of some bronze glass plates.

....with the art printed on the sticky side (how do they do that?)...

Turned out nice Erik !

its reversed printed on the non sticky side of transparant vinyl, after that they applied white vinyl over that, resulting in the sticky side of the transparant vinyl showing the art through in the correct way  ;)

so the ink is sandwiched between the white and transparant vinyl.

I dig the real versions plus Pengo and the fact that it does not start with a menu but with the last game you played. Upload is only a bonus. A cool one though. :)
